Hey Watto, it’s been a while! I’ve been biking a lot since my town has bike lanes now, which makes it feel safer. The scenery is stunning and it’s a pleasant ride. Fantastic tour! 👍🏼

Thanks Andy. Bike lanes do make a difference. As some drivers just don’t seem to care. What if it was a relation of theirs. Would they act in the same way ? Thanks for watching. 👍🏻

Hi Watto and Kim. Enjoyed your premiere yesterday, but sadly was really struggling with our internet here and couldn't leave a comment. Watching in full here again this morning so we could. Loves like a great and time efficient way to get to work (not to mention, not fighting traffic) as long as the weather is decent! We loved coming along.

You have a great looking route, Watto! It looks quite nice with all the homes and pathways and it seems like there would be lots of options to change it up for fun. @7:30 it looked like you got stuck there for a quite a while! I totally agree - cycling to work is a great thing, and planning is key for a happy commute. I've tried playing around with my route and tried one recently that is shorter, but takes me through an industrial area. With all the parking lots and intersections I felt like I was taking more of a risk, so I switched back to my slightly longer, but more picturesque route. I would say for someone starting out just do it once or twice a week and then you can build up from there. A change of clothes for once you get to work is also important for personal comfort, as is a safe place to lock up/store your bike for the day, and I'm glad my coworkers are supportive of my cycling habit, too!
@WanderingwithWatto7 ай бұрын
Absolutely correct👌🏻. Start with a couple of days a week when it’s dry and soon it becomes a habit even in the rain. I change my routes going and coming home. There are always different way to go. Which you can’t do in a car. Necessarily. Thanks for watching and your brilliant comment. 👍🏻🚲

Sorry I missed the premiere mr Watto. Interesting commute via bike around glossy, your commute took you through some pretty peaceful roads and routes and especially on a day like you had makes a nice morning ride worth the effort before work! Suppose the only hairy bit was through the town centre with all the pedestrians, but you did a cracking job and manoeuvred like a boss. I agree with what you say about getting to and from work using a bike, I need to take a leaf from your book, my morning commute takes me 30-45 minutes and I live maybe 15 minutes away but traffic is so so congested in Portsmouth it takes three times that, I'm seriously considering looking into getting an e-bike, just weighing up the pros and cons. Appreciate your video Watto!! 🚲

We have bike lanes around where we live but I don't trust local drivers to pay attention, it's still a bit of the wild west out here. Would love to live in a city where you didn't need a car. At Least you had a beautiful trek around Gloucester. Hopefully it will catch on!

I know that some do it every day, even in mid-winter here, but look at those empty sidewalks. I've often thought that maybe if pedestrians knew that sidewalks could be used during certain hours of the day that it would make the roads and commute safer for everyone. I see that there are shared used path even now. Always nice to have a sunny day for a bike ride though...it has been years since I've taken one myself.
@WanderingwithWatto7 ай бұрын
Totally illegal to ride in the pavements / sidewalks here Bruce. Unless designated a shared path. I enjoy a nice ride in to work and the way home relaxes me afterwards. You could always get Otis to pull you along. 👍🏻. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the weekend. Best wishes from across the pond. 👍🏻🚶🏻♂️🚶♀️

You're braver than us!! Man the roads where you live are as bad as here. So many cyclists say they can't cycle now due to the potholes! At least the cycle path is in better nick than the roads! That was mesmerising, a cycle through suburban Britain. Glad you made it in one piece. Its a very picturesque route to work! Too many hills here for anything other than an electric bike! Cheers 🍻

Tbh Gloucester is getting worse for potholes and the amount of glass even on the cycle path is. A nightmare. Drivers seem to get closer and closer sometimes. I guess it’s a matter of time till I’m knocked off. 🫣. Mine is an Ebike which helps as I have a dodgy hip. And means I’m. It a big sweaty mess when I get to work. I usually turn it off for the way home. It is nice down the canal though. Thanks as always. Have a good week. 👍🏻🚶🏻♂️🚶♀️🚲

Great looking commute that Watto. We definitely need more bike lanes and safe places for cyclists to get from A to B. We are so far behind other European countries in that regard. More Glos content Watto, always a plus I think, definitely helps with location services pushing you out and getting recognised locally. Gloucester looks top notch, even if it smells like Scarbados 😂😂

Commuting by bike as a regular occurrence is pants. Doesn't matter where you are. Unless you are a cycling fanatic, it's generally pretty uncomfortable (i.e. you have to get used to having a sore arse from time to time) and who on earth is going to chose to cycle in the cold, the wet (never seen so much rain as we've had this winter 23/24), the frost (v.dangerous on a bike) and the wind.? Looks wonderful on a sunny morning in Spring doesn't it! Just remember that weather like this is a rarity in the UK.
@WanderingwithWatto7 ай бұрын
🤣. Sounds like a load of excuses there my friend. I’m am fat and over 50 and cycle to work because it’s cheaper and better than sat in traffic. If it’s raining put in waterproof clothes. If it’s cold wear warm clothes. If it’s frosty just be careful. If it snows. Take the car. 🤣🤣. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated. 👍🏻

Although cycle lanes do provide some protection it are still the cyclist and driver who are responsible for a safe journey. I am in New Zealand at the moment. Also a country needing to address cyclist safety. A green painted stroke wouldn't entice me to bike. They stop at start at will and then where do you go? Fly? Shared pedestrian/cycle lanes can work - as long as sides are designated.... and those slow you down gates are set further apart ( wheelchair users hate those too). I'm not saying our system in the Netherlands is perfect- we too have issues, but it certainly is safer than no lanes. On main roads they are truly separated with a curb. Electric bikes now causing issues as they are faster, quieter and bulkier. Good effort on the fitness scene though Watto. Well done you for biking. Leave that car at home. Happy pedaling. 🚲🚲🚲🚲🙋♀🥝
@WanderingwithWatto7 ай бұрын
thanks Anita, there is usually a quieter route available. which you wouldn't take in the car. i enjoy riding and it is improving my mental and physical wellbeing. mine is an E bike but trust me it is not quicker. i regularly get passed by the lycra clad wanna be racers. i have an issue with my hip which restricts my movement so the E bike allows me to go further than i would normally with less pain. Anyone who thinks an E bike means zero effort needs to try it. Still get my work out. Especially s I really only have the assistance on the hills. Thanks for watching. Hope you are well. Have a great week.👍🚶🏻♂️🚶🏻♀️

@@WanderingwithWatto totally agree about the E-bike. I have one. Not because of hip or knee problems but more the steep slopes ( high bridges over rivers). In fact an E-bike is heavier than a legislative bike. Well done you for tackling the health issues. 👌
