I'm 57, 6,1 82KGs have been lifting for two years now. Been on creatine for about 2 months now. I didn't expect much. However, this week I dumbbell-pressed 30KGs (60KGs) 9 reps. I've noticed a considerable increase in a few weeks. 1 month ago 3 reps then 5 reps and now 9 good reps. If you had told me 2 years ago I would dumbbell press this weight I would have laughed. I also did 50 proper pull-ups from a complete drop. 10 x 8 x7 x 5 x 5 x 5 till 50. Before Xmas and my COVID I could barely get do 3 (it was COVID, that destroyed my gains). I will never stop taking it along with protein. But that's it, I don't bother with any other supplements. I hope this helps other older guys... Thanks to James for the straight talk.

I’ve lost 4 stone in 6 months whilst maintaining muscle mass, it’s been a slow process but adding creatine has definitely improved my training performance. I train 3 full body workout days a week and keep my step count up and after 4/5 months it became tough especially as the weight came off me, added creatine to my diet and I genuinely have not looked back. Also a very cheap white powder which is not something you can often say.

Bodyfat down to 12% body muscle % UP from 44% to 47% I've no doubt at all that a little bit of muscle has gone, but a tiny fraction compared to the fat that's gone. Net result is a higher portion of my mass being both muscle and water (water up from 56% to 59.5%) Yes, I'm totally aware these numbers add up to more than 100% and no, I don't know why my composition scales do that.

I took creatine years ago (in my 30s) and it helped me get more buff than I was in my 20s. I've recently started training again and due to high blood pressure, it took me a little longer to get back into a good physical state. I then started to use creatine again and it paid off very quickly. Lots more stamina and I feel I can push myself a lot more. I feel it's probably even more of a benefit now, compared to when I was in my 30s, as I'm not only older but also vegetarian. I feel people that have a vegan/vegetarian diet should be made aware that without the natural creatine within meat products, taking the powder is probably going to bridge a huge gap.

At 6:30 you mention Finasteride and Minoxidil. I've been on both for about 17 years. Finasteride side effects are very minimal in most guys and you only take 1mg a day, which is enough to reduce DHT in the scalp. Only fewer than 2% of men experience the side effects of Fin such as erctile disfunction and, for most of those that do, they only last a few weeks. Minoxidil doesn't have the side effects of Fin. Minoxidil stimulates hair growth, whereas Fin reduces DHT, which is why its necessary to use both for effective slowing down of male pattern baldness. Don't worry about taking both Fin and Min for hair loss. They work in 85% of guys.

I would love to take creatine but unfortunately my body didn't react well to it. I've only got one fully working kidney (the other one is like half), and they did not process it well. It increased my creatinine levels significantly (which is a chemical waste product from creatine). This caused my 1.5 kidneys to work in overdrive. Which then in turn caused me to get some serious illnesses that are normally very uncommon to get. So based on my experience if you have had any kidney issues in the past I would suggest not to take creatine. Great video though, love your work Jimmy!

Based on personal experience, I kinda recommend you do cycle it, mostly to compare muscle growth and performance. Once I got into creatine, I would go months taking it daily, then getting 1~2 months without it. The noticed difference made me stop taking it entirely. Fatigue levels were the same (but I'm 25, so...), but my Prs started growing consecutively, and muscle growth too. My body most likely starts inhibiting creatine production when presented in high levels, case of supplementation. So, money to waste, in my case. That's why I recommend to cycle it.

Started taking it just over a month ago. Weightlift 2x per week, boxing 1x per week, running 5k 3x per week. No change to that program throughout and I’ve gained a pound of muscle & increased all my lifts. Had to really experiment with when to take it. Before bed upsets my stomach the least. Recovery is faster which means I can push it a bit more in each session. Very happy with creatine & keeping it a part of my daily routine. I did not do a loading phase at all and so I didn’t notice anything for around 3 weeks so all the gains have suddenly popped up in the past week.

I've only had a positive experience with creatine even though I was skeptical at the beginning. Many years ago I was competing at a high level in sports and my body didn't look like it at all. However, once some of my friends got on it, after only 2-3 months they started looking great. Once I got on it, I reached my peak physical form at that point within 6-9 months and felt like I could flip a truck :D The one and only ''down side'' to it is that you are going to have to drink a lot of water, but if you are already good with it, there is no reason why you shouldn't take it. I would sweat profusely in the gym, presumably because I was now holding much more water weight (I was about 80kg at the time, 6ft). When I ran out of creatine I went cold-turkey so to speak, and for the week after not taking it, I had the worst depression; full on low mood, lethargic, angsty. Despite this I'm ready to give it another shot. Hopefully I'll have a more positive experience this time, given that I know what to expect this time round. Thanks for the vid.

@@pinnah8355 thanks for replying, I forgot to come back on this! I've been taking it since my first comment, and I haven't had any negative side effects. Strength wise I've definitely improved, nothing dramatic but still improvement. This could be down to just consistently training 4-5 times a week though, so impossible to say. I'm terms of negative side effects, I can't say I've noticed a signicant increase in water weight, and I'm not sweating as much as my previous time using creatine. Again, could be because the weather in the UK has been very mild this summer. I haven't stopped taking creatine during this time so unable to comment on the negative side effects described when coming off. I'm taking roughly 5g a day, but the scoop is 3g and then I have to wing it on the second scoop. I also sometimes forget to take it on days when I'm not training, so maintaining a constant level of creatine in my body is an issue. That being said, I haven't noticed any side effects from inconsistent usage. All in all I'd said its probably worth taking. If the research is correct about the benefits, for price you can pay (a 2kg bag was about £40 on amazon) it's probably worth taking it for even the smallest of benefits.

Loving the content and the honest no bs approach to the delivery and simple matter of fact dialogue. On creatine use I am a normal chap who likes working out and exercising and when I’m not chilling I’m at work Monday to Saturday so I class my self as a normal joe. I have used creative for the past 4 weeks and I stick to 5 and a bit grams once a day and I want to say i feel it has helped but if it hasn’t and it’s a placebo as you pointed out I am happy with that as the bag costs around £30 and last ages. I have made sure I drink plenty of fluids as I gather with the muscles holding more water the last thing I need is to dehydrate and get head aches. Again thanks for keeping the content coming. Wouldn't just be due to the creatine that your hair got thinner. Could be natural ageing. Could be that your test went up in general if you're fairly new to the gym (assuming you're a dude). Could be completely unrelated stress in your life. We don't know enough because you didn't provide enough info.

I started taking creatine capsules just over 2 months ago - I take them when I have my first meal so the sicky vom thing. There has been no noticeable weight gain - still hovering around 75kg, but then I’ve been more careful with my diet - hardly any sugary fizzy drinks, a lot less choc, and less alcohol. But also exercising more regularly. I have noticed my muscles look a tiny bit bigger though which is encouraging me to carry on. 47 and already lost most of my hair.

Great vid! My experience with creatine was 14 years ago (jeez I feel old saying that). So anyway I started with the loading phase and then went on to the recommended dose. My strength gains and bulk look went through the roof and so quickly too. Only downside for me is that I suffer from acid reflux and maybe even GERD. Creatine has a lot of acids in it and did flare my stomach a bit so went off it. But anyone without that problem should be fine! Be conscious too of being heavier. I know scales don’t always matter but if you’re a footballer, runner etc, you may not want to be heavier as you will slow down!

I would say if you’ve been prescribed one of the …azole drugs it does more than reduce stomach acid, it has a protective function as well. And this advice will probably have changed by the time I finish typing this but the Omeprazole*, Atorvastatin*, Ramapril*, (?Aspirin) combo when you hit the age of 50 is probably the best chance you have of living a better quality of life for a longer period of time. *Actual drugs may vary individual to individual.

I took creatine on & off for several years. Found it fantastic for workouts, recovery, energy & improved brain function (memory, speed of thought, reaction time etc). Unfortunately I believe it has given me a receding hairline, and (although I feel fine), blood tests from the doctors suggests my kidneys are pretty fucked (I've definitely been drinking enough water), so I'm taking a full year off to assess the results on hair loss & kidney function. I do miss taking it though, and will probably go back to it later this year. Can always get a kidney transplant and wear a wig 😊

Just over a month back at the gym. I've taken creatine every day along with whey protein, mixed with either Greek yogurt or kefir. Creatine, as you state, is very cheap, has a mountain of research behind it, along with decades of the collective experience of users testifying to its safety and efficacy. I did, at one point, look at the capsules, but they are absolutely huge, and you have to take three of them every day. Pretty sure I'd just barf them up. Love your delivery, thanks for sharing.

I started training at 55 about a year ago. It's been almost a month of creatine use (yes, I did the loading like a bell end), coupled with collagen, whey and cod liver oil, I have noticed cognative enhancements, physical endurance and explosive potential (like the feeling of wanting to run for no reason). I feel some kind of primal surge of anatomical self correction. Put more simply I've been horny AF. I do mildly use maryjane and modafinil as stimulants (of which I feel aid in training). I tend to avoid anything that's "almost a gram", I'm done with peaks and troughs.

@@davekennedy6315 perhaps you are right, I am very much new in this fitness, thing. But the reality is if someone feels stimulated when using maryjane, and that stimulous promotes a desire to work harder, be more attentive, rest more efficiently, then great for them. Whilst, we need testosterone, we also need estrogen for balance. Not every drug/stimulant/supplement/nootropic works for everyone. I don't feel any less of people that don't feel a deep, creative drive with marijuana, in fact I envy my music mentor that can't touch it. But I think alcohol is kinda shit, I can do without it. If you are saying I need more testosterone to counter too much estrogen then thanks, but I had stated I am a mild user and very active...

@@Daffy-Deck yeah, I get you. I used to use it in my teens and personally it wrecked my training. I was weaker, less motivated, just around slower and was living in that constant Cannabis brain fog/fug (slower thoughts, horrendous memory, just very 'dopey') But drugs do effect people in different ways and I do miss that creative/art appreciative side, so I get you on that too. My problem is that I have an 'addictive personality' so I was smoking constantly and soon moved on to other substances, always to excess. I'm 48 now and clean of everything and back training the last 3 or so years (first 2 years natural, last year or so on TRT dose of Testosterone) at home using mainly compound excercises. I feel great and look pretty good for my age I'd say, having put on around 30lb of muscle natural and another 15lb with TRT (along with bodyfat cut) I love it when I hear from fellow older trainers!
@Daffy-Deck
@Daffy-Deck Жыл бұрын
@@davekennedy6315 I agree with you about how marijuana is detrimental to some people's well being. Personally I am still weary of enhancers for testosterone because I don't know what I am doing and I would rather face dysmorphia than make stupid mistakes. But I am intrigued with your progress, after a fasting phase my body just wants to eat and eat. I will look into TRT, but think I need at least a year to know my body under stress. Well done on your motivation, I think it's important to be an inspiration to all ages. Weighted calisthenics is the one for me, like you it can be done at home, discreet etc. Yes, I would like the "Brad Pitt/Fight Club physique", but I am strength training not bodybuilding, I train with melee weapons so speed and agility are more important. BTW, you don't have an addictive personality, at the time you were young and the environment was unstable. You're good mate :)
