I think there are many types of goth. I am part of the first generation of goths in the US in the very early 1980s. I guess I am more classic goth. We used to call it Romantic Goth when we were young. Later our community merged into the new Industrial movement when it started late in the 1980s. Over the years there have been many versions of Goths, Rivet Heads, Industrial people and the modern styles. To be honest I am not really a fan of Cybergoth because it reminds me too much of Japanese anime and the very fashion focused Visual Kei scene here in Japan. For us Goth was a subculture that extended far beyond music, dancing and fashion. We were political, had strong social and moral ideas, and a strong lifestyle preference. I think that is why so many of us are still goth now that we are a lot older. It wasn't a trend for us. It was a conscious decision about how to live our lives. I worry that some of the current movements have lost the deeper cultural aspects. There is too much focus on clothing and music taste, when it should be more about the kind of person you are and your world view on life. Just my opinion.

Me personally I associate Goth with darkness inside the soul and heart caused by pain or other life altering experiences, with a yearning for more sincerity and more depth than shallowness, with more complex thoughts than simplistic minds, wanting to isolate or set apart from normal people because of not feeling too connected to normal people. This type of mindset supported by Goth related clothes and music. But that is just how I feel about gothic. And that is what I am missing about the vibe of Cyber. A lot of Cyber Goths remind me too much of the late 90s rave scene and street parades. Not so much of substance. More of hard partying.

So, what is industrial music to you? Skinny Puppy, Frontline Assembly? YelworC? Wumpscut? Leather Strip? Or only 70s stuff like Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, SPK? Or industrial rock and metal? Because all these bands have industrial roots, even Eisenfunk, Centhron and all modern stuff (even if it is more 'raved' or 'tranced').

i agree with this video... i like industrial music but theyre not Goth .... nowadays both music genres share the same club/building but the majority of attendants are dancing in the industrial room while the Goth room which is always the smallest, has less people... kinda sad how most modern "Goths" are actually cyberkids or just people that think is they are Goth because they wear a lot of black and dark accessories

You just really bummed me out with this video........I am Cyber Goth but i do listen to real industrial music like Throbbing Grisle and Skinny Puppy and stuff BUT.... I also love post punk, gothic rock like The Sisters of Mercy I have the same Beliefs as you and stuff and same views like you. People just tend to hop right in the goth tree not exploring the ever so wonderful Joy Division, Bauhaus ect...Its very annoying to me that babybats do that but to think without them goth would die we just need to guid them into the right ways of a goth and into the right bands and stuff so things like this doesn't happen.

The thing I noticed about cyber goths is when they use a neon color. They stick with that one neon color throughout. If they would mix the neon colors like green & purple with black for example. I am a fan of contrasting colors and not to stick with one color throughout the wardrobe. I am more of Steampunk & if I was into Goth. Victorian Goth would be the style I would most lean to.

While I can appreciate the look of cybergoth, I much prefer cyberpunk overall as there is more freedom to it and individuality. cybergoth is cool for like a rave or something but it really does look copy and pasted a lot of the time. I used to call it warehouse punk/goth when I was a kid coz it reminded me of hazards and warehouses more than futuristic stuff. Also would just like to say you are awesome, love your accent and style it is lovely and keep making vids~!

You shouldn't apologize so much, especially when talking about music genres - you were absolutely right and "classifying" genre is not really a personal thing :P And people who do this are being ignorant, no to look up music genres and similar bands just to learn something, I like goth music, but I also know what EBM and Aggrotech is (cyber goth music)

EBM has absolutely nothing to do with Goth or Cybergoth. EBM predates Cybergoth. It was popular in the late 1980s/early 1990s and became popular again in the new millennium. The fans look completely different... If they meet a Cybergoth they will kick his ass...

I personally think, Cyber Goth is not GOTH, it's a whole different style, that came from the goth roots in the late 90's, but the style/music/fashion does NOT have a lot to do with the goth style. And because of that, I personally would not call it Cyber goth, but just Cyber.

+Zeroy Cruciatum Look it all started from Trad goth, then they developed another style then another, it dont matter wether they look alike or look completely different, if it was developed by the goth-subculture then its goth that's how it works and another thing.. you said "Goth is dark and Cyber goth is futuristic", yes futurism is part of the Science fiction genre and it takes part in the Cyber goth scene but it dont have to be always in the future, the Cyber goth scene is technically got to do with everything that is science fiction. Alien creatures and robots are science fiction, now you got Dark Science fiction or Science fiction horror, films such as the Alien series, the Predator series, Species series, The alien factor, Virus, Hardware, Screamers etc are all dark and you got Dark science fiction artwork, novels, comic books and Dark Electronic music, as for there aesthetics they can make them selves look quite spooky and evil looking with there aesthetics being mostly black, black make up which is quite similar in style to the Deathrockers but they typically dont wear white make up because they wear masks, they allso wear eerie eye contacts, i've seen some Cyber goths that look more eerie and bizarre looking then some Trad goths and yourself in this video, so that makes the Cyber goth scene is quite gothic, if you dont agree with me this time then no offence but you tend to think of this scene in a abnormal way. One other thing you dont have to like Dark science fiction or anything dark to be a Cyber goth, typically the Cyber goths that have a gothic look are the one's that are into Dark science fiction. Now i have given you proof that the scene is goth and that they are quite gothic, if its still not good enough for you then ye like i said you think of the scene in a strange way and if you dont agree with me then maybe you should get use to the scene being part of the Goth-subculture and get over it!

What I know is that cybergoth do not (mostly) listen to old industrial music from 80s and 90s (EBM and electro-industrial) with more avangarde offshot of original industrial. They embrace trance-evolved versions of electro-industrial (after 2000) called aggrotech (mistaken with dark electro which was subgenre of electro-industrial) and futurepop (in America mistaken with EBM. In Europe we call it futurepop). They also like music from hard dance circles (hard house, hard trance, hardstyle, happy hardcore etc) and follow mostly dark electronic music like psytrance. They are more like gothic ravers than cybergoth. They only want to dance and party with 'oontz, oontz, oontz' rhythms. Cyberpunk is not about glorification of technology. It's about degradation and dystopia. Classic cyberpunk band is Front Line Assembly credited by shaping electro-industrial music. So, cybergoth in reality is fusion between rave and industrial with minimal connection to goths.

Bauhaus & UK Decay (Goth) Vs. Eisenfunk & Kriminal Minds (Cyber) -- There's nothing elitist about educating about the difference. There's nothing musically Goth in the Cyber music. I personally call it Cyber not Cyber-Goth for this reason. Cyber and Goth have only one thing in common: darkness. that's it. Cyber is Dark Electronic Rave. Goth is a dark post-punk sound using vocals, guitars, bass, synth (optionally), drums and/or drum machine.

+Lucia Graves There are elitests in every fringe scene for sure. It's just bound to happen in an out in any group of people who pride themselves on deviating from the norm. They tend to normalize their own behavior until deviations from THAT norm become threatening to them. It's the same in the punk scene, metal scene, etc.

du hast da auf jedenfall einen guten Punkt. Cyber ist mittlerweile ja auch schon gestorben also das vid ist ja eh nicht mehr up to date. Da ich in der Modebranche Arbeite weiß ich ja auch (wie jeder mit Augen), dass Schwarz ja schon seit einigen Jahren iwie Mode ist. Man sieht viele (Junge ) Menschen (Frauen) die mit schwarzem Lippenstift, schwarze Augen und schwarze Bekleidung aus dem Haus gehen, die die Gothic Scene aber noch kennen, noch iwie lust auf den kram hätten... Also ja, nur durch schwarze Kleidung provozieren passt auf jedenfall nicht zu 2017... da ist man ein bisschen "out-dated".

Die Cyberszene ist ausgestorben, weil die Leute regelrecht rausgeekelt wurden. Es war wenigstens mal eine Chance auf eine gewisse Frische in der altbackenen Szene, auch wenn es oft peinlich anzusehen war (siehe diese Tanzvideos). Naja Chance verpasst, von Gothic wird in 10 Jahren nicht mehr viel übrig bleiben. Gothic Sachen gibt es ja schon bei H&M. Man sieht ja auch kaum noch Jugendliche und Leute die auf der Straße so gestylt rausgehen. Die Kids von heute brauchen keine Szene mehr, die hören was sie wollen und tragen ganz normale Sache. Gilt übrigens auch für die Punk, Hip Hop oder Metalszene. Die Szene ist ja auch total gespalten. Früher war mehr Gemeinschaft. Da wurden auf Partys die unterschiedlichsten Songs hintereinander gehört, sprich es lief Hocico, dann Joy Division, dann Gothic Metal, EBM usw. Heutzutage werden die Partys unterteilt. Einfach schlimm. Naja und auf den Festivals sind ständig die selben langweiligen Bands, weil sich kaum ein Veranstalter mehr traut junge Bands auf die Bühne zu lassen. Die Gothicszene ist mega kommerz, es geht wie so oft, nur noch ums Geld
