Antonio Banderas had a heart attack several years ago that almost caused a sequel not to get made. The plot they came up with was ultimately very meaningful and important to Banderas as a result.

God bless u, Antonio Banderas!!! I can’t imagine having a heart attack and almost die from it. That must have been terrifying for him to go through that. I have so much respect for him for having to cope with that and grow stronger from it. What a very brave and humble man he is to have gone through something so traumatic and downright scary. ❤❤❤

I love how Dreamworks kept their cards close to the vest by having Death featured VERY sparingly in the trailer and even then making it look like he was some above-average scary henchman and bounty hunter (literally said in the trailer). The rough translation of The Wolf's Spanish rant at the end ("¿Por qué diablos fui a jugar con mi comida?") is "Why the hell did I go and play with my food?!" He could've killed Puss at any time, but was taking the time to torment him because he _really_ doesn't like him. But because he took all that time, _Puss_ had more than enough time to find value in living his last life.

The entire character of Big Jack feels like an allegory for Disney itself, started out innocent but grew mad with power and greed. Jack Horner is based off a nursery rhyme, who is based on a real person. They mock that person, who was a landowner. So not Disney. And he didn’t exactly grow up innocent. Disney was “represented” in Shrek, since Katzenberg got fired from Disney for being a jerk, by Lord Farquaad looking like the president at the time. Also; like fr, Katzenberg was not a nice guy so he legit shouldn’t be mocking Disney. Especially considering what he did to get fired.

I don’t understand why people call Goldi a b**ch, she was just going after what she thought was going to make her happy, she may have not seen what she already had but she’s a teenager that learned what she wanted, and the family genuinely loves her, they still wanted to get her the wish because it would make her happy even if after the wish came true they weren’t in her life anymore but that love was still going to be there, the choice was Goldi’s to make and she readjusted her values at the end. I agree. It might seem like she was ungrateful for her “found family” but sometimes people have complicated feelings. You can love what you have while still feeling like you’re missing something. Especially since a “proper family” is so idealistic. Everyone wants something they don’t have. Of course, learning to see what you have is “just right” is something many people struggle with. Goldi was a very relatable antagonist. Not to be confused with a villain.

Hints for the wolves identity as Death: 1. The whistle. Death is known for giving the deceased a sense of ease before he claims their souls 2. The random appearances. He always shows up out of nowhere without making a sound. 3. Tapping the Dead on Puss’ wanted poster. Symbolizing why he is there to see Puss. 4. The coins. In his second appearance he puts coins on his eyes, they make him look like a dead person. In Ancient Greek condition people would put golden drachmas on the eyes of the dead before entombing them, thus they can pay Charon to depart into the underworld.

I wouldn't say that Death was a villain in this movie, but rather, just like the Ghost of Christmas Future was to Scrooge, a terrifying wakeup call that got the main protagonist to realize what truly mattered. Death's purpose is to clear away the old so that new life can come forth. Eventually we're all going to die one day, and that's fine. That's why you live life each day to the fullest. When you've lived a life worth living, you'll be able to walk up to Death, shake hands and say, "How do you do?" We're not guaranteed tomorrow; so live right now.

Just got home a few minutes ago from this movie. Such a thrilling and exciting piece of cinema about a stabby tabby cat. Possibly one of the most enjoyable dreamworks movies since Bad guys, Megamind, and Shrek 2.

I just realized on this viewing that the reason Death didn't find Puss at the cat lady's house is because as sad as he was, Puss was following death's lesson and valuing the time he has. It's only after he really commits to another risky outlaw/hero gig that Death reappears and continues the chase. Really good stuff, really tight writing.

Something that always struck me is that the giant he fought in the beginning has around here similar to an ogre. That lead me to believe that the two races might be distantly related, and it also reminds me of a line from the first film. “ he’ll grind your bones for his bread. Actually, that would be a giant .”

I guess the only plus side of watching the first Puss in Boots film is seeing the development of his and Kitty's relationship. Back then they were all about flirting with each other, secretive and seductive. And they ended the movie with the two still being flirty (ya know, suave style). So seeing Kitty in this movie again and finding out that not only have they dated but ALMOST GOT MARRIED?! Dios mio, If I could squeeze my heart, I would. Like, you liked them as a couple in the first film, and enjoyed their moments with each other, also the open-ended relationship, and then you see them in this sequel, wondering what's got them in this sort of tension but also you notice that they're closer with each other in a familiar, homey way. No longer flirting, but there's a sense of comfort between them, specifically in physical advances (something that I'd notice to couples who have already spent a long time with each other irl).

Everyone knows Death is one of the high points in this film; the art, the whistling tune, and Wagner Moura's absolutely fucking aces voice acting, it's the whole nine. When he loses his shit when he realizes that Puss has grown up and truly begun to treasure his life, oh man, that's the best; watching him chastise himself for "playing with his food" is so great because his nature of honor, fair play, and reverence for life mirror the classical stories of protags winning their lives by by besting Death in a game. He's Death, and he takes the living to their next destination, but dammit he just can't shake the temptation of a mortal that intrigues him laying it all down on the line to defend a life they've only recently come to appreciate. Even the vitriol and outrage when he says he doesn't like cats because he's personally offended at the concept of mortal creatures getting multiple lives because he believes (correctly, to a degree) it cheapens and devalues what it actually means to live. Such a triumph of writing and character design.

The Shrek and Puss in Boots franchise is the only one I actually prefer to watch dubbed because the LATAM Spanish dub is genuinely so good and creative As opposed to other movies just translating everything into a fake neutral Spanish version, they add character playing with accents and changing jokes to actually made them fit and be funny Of course Antonio Banderas does his voice too, maintaining the essence of the character, but the changes made to others just make sense for the audience, like the strong accent of Golden Locks and the Bears turning into an Argentinian accent, it makes it feel more real than most dubs Long rant, but I just love this movie
