I noticed that the 4K Edition shows the film in its original aspect ratio which shows more of the picture and as a plus it helps show the animators’ work a bit more! If only they did that for Disney’s other animated films instead of just cropping it to fit a HD TV, when they leave their older films to their full screen ratio!

4K is not the only one. Lately the DVDs are also starting to show the films in their original aspect ratio and showing more pictures too. Why, unlike the 4k, the DVd of the Sword in the Stone from 2001, showed more picture than the blu-rays and 4k. Trust me, I compared images. Just to let you know.

Only good thing about the 4K version is it’s displayed in it’s full original Aspect Ratio. While the Blu-ray has slightly cropped the top and bottom image

Dear Jeff You're wrong in your argument. The first darkest image that you watch first is the Blu-ray version and the version with the ratio of the two black bands on the side is that of the HDR !! And thanks for making a presentation of my channel on your video 👍👍👍 !

As far as i know these Blu-ray vs. 4K UHD screenshot comparison videos are pointless and give a totally wrong impression. You're showing a screenshot from an HDR source in a SDR container. Unless the KZbin video itself is being sent in 4K HDR and watched on a HDR screen, you're being misinformed about the HDR quality and colors will be portrayed incorrectly.

Hey Jeff. I don't know if you mentioned atmos specifically in this video, but I know that digital retailers like VUDU limit Atmos tracks to 4k digital copies and not on standard HDX titles. I will disagree. Picture quality in my eyes is a little better in the 4k, but I will agree to buy it if you don't have it in BD or you want the atmos track so much. Disney should completely remaster all of it's classics from the original negatives directly in 8k master, or at least real 4k. You have shown that if a studio do that the picture quality is jaw droping. They should do it at some point. I don't have these late 80's early 90's in blue ray, so I will get little mermaid, pocahontas maybe mulan alladdin (I already got lion king in 4k) and especially my all time favorite disney beauty and the beast. Do a complete 8k master from original negatives Disney. Everybody knows you can. I bet Disney will double dip all these titles. Thye will properly remaster them in the future so we double dip...

Because of a child, we own most of the Disney classics on DVD, and though I'd love to have the best ones on 4k, I must admit that two things work against it for me; 1: Disney is a juggernaut and I don't like their way of doing things, which makes me not want to further line their pockets, which leads me neatly to: 2: Disney-discs NEVER come down in price. Ever. I got the new 6-disc boxed set of Apocalypse Now for $9.99. That will not happen to any Disney discs, and I would have rather payed list price for Apocalypse Now than for, say Pinocchio or Dumbo, two of the few Disney movies I'd like to have on 4k. But I bet they look FANTASTIC, especially the ones shot on film. Although Wall-E might tempt me..

@@lawrencecornell3430 I certainly agree in principle. However, they have quite a huge catalogue of animated films and they're always just so expensive. I'd rather put the money towards live-action 4K UHDs (Disney or not).

Almost every movie released in 4k is a 2k DI upscaled so by your argument no 4k is worth it. That's not the case of course, and 4k upscale can provide more detail for a number of reasons whether animation or film. It's not as cut and dry as you lay out.

Just for the original aspect ratio this 4K version is better than the previous Diamond Edition, color wise I'm not sure, it's the same color grading but slightly oversaturated and brighter in the HDR version, which I doubt is how the movie was i intended to look in theatres. 35mm prints have a VERY different look, more earthy colors and very dark contrast. The digital version is way too colorful and bright, leaving poor contrast for the HDR to show off.

If used correct HDR is not used to alter the original grading. The HDR on animated films and other titles that were shot on film are graded to simulate the lightpass like it would have been projected trough film back then. Film has an even wider range of nits dan your typical HDR. DVD's and blu rays were graded much brighter for SDR screens to make sure everything is visible on home video screens. I think The animated Disney classics on 4K look more authentic then their brighter blu ray or DVD counterparts.

Maybe Hdr but if you have a good high end tv that is capable of producing good colors the difference is subtle in most transfers.

Hell, from what I've seen, animated Disney films aren't even worth upgrading from vhs to dvd unless that dvd was produced from when before their Platinum Edition Line started, because that's when they started altering all the colors. The last decent dvd release of Peter Pan, for instance, was back in 2002, and the last good release of Pinocchio was the Gold Edition from 2000(and even those are sub-par because you have to put up with a 5.1 remix instead of the orginal mono soundtracks). And, since they weren't released until after the Platinum Edition Line began, neither Bambi or(especially) Cinderella have EVER had decent releases on disc. And that's not even bringing up all the alterations that were done to films like Lion King and Little Mermaid. Sadly, the best way to experience ANY of the Disney animated films the way they were intended to be seen is to find yourself a used vhs that is either still factory sealed and never been opened, or a used vhs that has never been viewed more than a handful of times. Good luck.

It can't be native 4K, this movies were made digitally in 2K, they could have re-scanned the original backgrounds in 4K which is not the case in this movie, but the animation was traced and painted digitally in 2K, so it needs to have been upscaled to 4K.

I have last year’s 55” model TCL 4K FALD TV and I think 4K video gaming is great. I don’t have the same opinion of 4K UHD video. I just haven’t really been impressed (especially putting in the blu-ray right after watching the 4K. You can argue that the Xbox One X I use is not the capable 4K UHD player it should be, but I believe it’s the limited brightness of the TCL TV screen that hinders the image. I’m not sure if they’ve increase the nits on the current model, but I imagine that previous year models of other better reviewed TVs will give you a better experience while also being cheaper at this point.

This film isn't just for kids but for the whole family. I think I was about 5 when I first saw it and at 14 I still watch it and so do my parents. I haven't seen the sequels because I heard that Robin Williams wasn't in them and decided that they wouldn't be as good without him. He was made for the part. The songs are amazing. I love singing along to "A Whole new World". I'm hoping to get the soundtrack soon. I also love the film because I have the same name as the princess in it! The blu Ray is already amazing looking and the 4K is only a little better if you make an effort to notice any difference. I don't know why people believe that a 4K upgrade is an absolute must like their lives depend on it. It's a marketing gimmick to make more money from suckers who have no patience for a real upgrade, like a 16K release that is so sharp on a tv screen so high definition you can see more details if you put a magnifying glass right on the tv screen. Lol. But then again, what is the point?
