Dominos is a shit company to work for. You could just walk up to the counter and most employees would tell you how the tracking works. Employees have to have an app on their phone and when they pick up your order and walk out the door they hit some buttons on a computer. Drivers don't actually make enough money long term to pay the bills and have enough left over to replace your car when it inevitably dies.
@jessemarks1329 ай бұрын
The name of the person making your pizza on the tracker is usually the highest ranked employee in the store. There is no way to track who made a pizza except asking if anybody remembers making it. It's important to note that unless it's pretty slow, it's not just one person who makes the pizza. Typically, the manager beats out the dough, and then it goes down an assembly line that includes saucing and toppings. Often the manager sauces as well. If it is slow, it's often the manager doing the whole thing or another insider, but the most common person has always been the manager in my stints at Dominos. Drivers take part in this process as well.

Hi there, Dominos employee here! I saw another comment mentioning our DSS system, which is correct! as soon as you put things in your cart and click check out the order pops up on a screen and we can start making it . and then once you pay it’ll pop up again on a different screen so we might already have your order in the oven by the time you click check out. So once we click enter that the items have been made, it’ll change on your tracking screen that it’s in the oven. for the name of who is making your order, it is whoever is the manager on shift so it doesn’t really matter who makes it, it could be them it could be the other cooks. Whoever is the manager on shift is whose name will show up for who’s cooking your order! The “quality check” section is basically just buying time for drivers to pack up the order and sides and check out on the order and get in their car. We are trained and rewarded for being able to toss, top, and enter a large pepperoni pizza into the oven in 30 seconds. Another thing I have mentioned to our supervisors and wish that we had is that when we get sent on doubles triples even quadruples, (which is four different deliveries in one drive etc.) - that it would tell our customers that we have different orders instead of them just thinking we’re driving around town wasting time before we deliver their order. If a driver does not have their app open or service, or are not able to have their GPS location on then once quality check turns into delivery your time will be estimated because if their app is not open, it won’t be as accurate. but if the app is open and their GPS location is on The delivery tracker should be pretty accurate to the minute.

So, Formor manager at a rather busy Dominos, I can explain a bit on this, You are 100% right about the "Prep" state, it instantly hits that the moment you put in the order, and, if it's a plain Pepperoni Pizza, if it's the Manager making it, it can get into the oven in less than a minute, it updates the moment that we hit 'Enter' on the keyboard that's under the Monitor, then it goes to the "Bake" stage which at my store, the top oven was 7 minutes and the bottom oven was 8 minutes, and this is where it gets a little bit wonky with the Tracker, because the "Quality check" is actually a lie, It started that at 7 minutes after the Bake started, and then that could last for a long time. It wouldn't go to "Delivery" until the Driver had selected the order and clocked out to take it, If the store is extra busy, it will stay on "Quality Check" until there's a driver able to take it, the entire time it's under the warmer it's in "Quality Check" as for the Driver tracking, that was added after I had left the company, when I was working, there was no app or anything that the driver used to signal they were done with the Delivery. All in All, the Tracker is great, but it also leads to a lot of miscommunication when the store is extra busy, or short staffed, and it's mainly in that "Prep" phase, where, if it's just a plain Pep, we would clear it off the Monitor the moment we saw it then make the pizza after because we could do one of those so quickly, specialty pizza's were the same way, cleared before making just to keep Make Times down so that the store looked better, then the Quality Check is actually a "Waiting for Delivery" step.

Ayy I worked for the company who stuffs your email. I've personally handled millions of copies of "did you know we still have the mix and match deal". We also did some API work including the first version of the tracker. The API is garbage and old and bloated. But it does work. So like we tried to do a demo once. And literally the API updates a little too slow. So our demo failed. But only because we were trying to complete a whole pizza order in 30sec. And the API polls more like every minute at max. So the bugs in the system are mostly because it's like a 20+ year old design now. Imagine a computer system from 2000 trying to handle the surge in data people are asking for as of 2024. It's like a small town grocery store checkout trying to work instantly with push notifications on phones. It's great for franchisees because the old ass system is easy and familiar. But it's also a dinosaur. So when things do go wrong, like your coupons don't apply correctly or whatever, it's because of this. And the franchisees are almost never to blame, at least not directly. Like a guy I work with literally had to call managers all the time because they forgot to push Send when updating their coupons. So the system was not going to honor their coupons. And we had to manually hack the database all the time for them. Because they'd spent thousands of dollars mailing out flyers with coupon deals printed on them... And forgot to make sure they were entered into the system.

So from a technical standpoint the reason why you would not get an immediate update is because there is a built in delay for how often it will refresh or seek an update on the app. In order for it to truly be instantaneous would require you to repeatedly check for an update which would essentially be a DDOS. If I were to guess the program is probably set to check for an update once every ~15-60 seconds because most people aren't going to be staking out the restaurant to check if the pizza left exactly at that time but I would guess that the timestamps are generated on their end because otherwise if you lose internet connection then they aren't going to be able to display that time accurately. This is also why sometimes when you look at a driver on the map they will sometimes freeze in place for a long time and then suddenly teleport or look like they are driving at 300km/hr because it's the system resyncing if either you or the driver loses connection.
@swit19059 ай бұрын
Woah! This is crazy relevant and interesting to me right now as last night I ordered pizza from Domino's and the tracker said it was delivered 20 minutes before the order arrived. @mikaylagill33889 ай бұрын
Hi! I actually work for Domino's and can provide some insight to this! So our system uses the time that it would take to get to your house from our store, rather than a total time facoring in the other stops along the way. It's a bit annoying at times answering five different calls about the same thing, but it's completely understandable! Maybe one day they'll fix it so that the customers have a better idea of when their food will arrive, but I just thought this would help explain some of your issues. 😊

The stupid part is it ends up *adding time* for the customer, who now has to go park in a spot that's often handicap-only, and wait for an employee to bring the order out. Also screws the customer if they need an additional item such as condiments, straws, napkins; staff has to walk 30-40 yds to retrieve and deliver these things that would otherwise be in arm's reach.

Awhile ago I used to work at a pizza place: Doing a scheduled order was actually extremely simple. When you placed it, on the store's end you'd have it pop up on the make line pretty much exactly the amount of time it would take to prepare, and bake it. For internal reasons, scheduled orders were also the most prioritized, if it was scheduled 7PM for example, if it jumped in front of a bunch of orders. No clue if it's still priority, as it's been more then a few years.

I work as a Dominos Delivery guy, now this is in The Netherlands so it might be a bit different. But often the pizza gets ticked off the screen and that's the moment it gets set to "in oven" at the customer. With bigger deliveries it gets ticked off later then with smaller ones, so it sometimes is a bit off from what you can see. The oven however for us always takes 6 minutes for all products in the oven after which it goes to Quality Control. This section can take a bit depending on some situations. A lot of times your manager wants you to tick yourself "out" asap. When a pizza comes out of the oven (6 minutes) it will be put to "Rack" (which for the customer is quality control). The longer it stays on "rack" the worse the ratings of that Dominos will get. So if a pizza is like 20 minutes on rack. The ratings go down. What they often do is press on "out" when the pizza gets out of the oven and it still needs to be boxed. This for bringing up ratings, and this is why the delivery guy often takes another 2 to 5 minutes to drive away. This does probably differ per Dominos but that's what I expect is the differences in time, lived the video tho, really cool research!

Former domino’s employee here. Dominos does track an order aside from quality check/boxing. This part is just an assumed phase. Because the oven moves at a constant pace(roughly 8 mins). However, depending on how cooked you want your pizza to be or how pizza they are, your pizza could get pushed back, put in from the midpoint or left running at the end of the oven. There are also employees who would “complete” their step as soon as it comes in and they could take anywhere from 1-5 mins before they actually start. TLDR: your order is somewhat tracked.
@Sizzyl9 ай бұрын
All I learned here is that these trackers are shockingly accurate. I think part of why Papa Johns completes delivery times after the driver gets back, could be to confirm the food was actually delivered, and not just yoinked by the driver. Oh, also real pizzas (not this instant junk food stuff) will cook in around 3-5 minutes. Because fire is hot, and fire cooks good dough well. I've heard of a few of these places using infrared ovens to cook pizzas fast. But I can't say for sure.

I used to work at dominos. To my knowledge as soon as the order is received it pops up on the screen. Instantly going into “prep” stage. When the worker is done making the pizza they clear the order from the screen which switches it from prep to bake. It takes roughly 5-8 mins to pass through oven depending on if they have to push the pizza back. (Pan pizzas get extra cook time) then quality check is slice and box time. Once the pizza is ready it sits on a shelf until the driver picks it up. I think the time after the screen is cleared is just an estimate. And wait time is based on how many orders we would have at the time. It would say my name on the website for months after I stopped working there. Or if I wasn’t working and placed and order it would still say my name was making the orders. I wasn’t the manager either. 🤷♀️ And an explanation for Richard could be because the driver is supposed to select which order they are taking out of the store when they leave indicating “on the way” but sometimes forget so the employees in the store notice he left and did it for him.

The answer is noooo :D (i used to manage a dominos) quality check is a lie. Its just waiting for a driver to arrive and route to your order. Also the person who *makes* Your order is just whatever manager was clocked in first. (This is typically also the person who *quality checks*
@train_guy8 ай бұрын
I work at Dominos (edit: IN AUSTRALIA). Drivers cannot attach more than 2 orders to their name, so the manager might sign the extra ones out on their name. You're correct about the "making" stage, if the screen is full, your order will say "order made" until we 'bump' each order off the screen. We can bump individual items from an order. The oven stage is, yes you guessed it, a time that is specified by which oven layer is being used, which is a whole other technical thing, but its normally between 5-8 minutes. The quality check section will stay on until the order is assigned to a driver, and then you will get the notification when we click "order complete" on our phones. Sometimes we do have errors with our tracking app, when swapping between using the company car or our own car as we get paid for our own kms/mi but that doesn't happen every day. Feel free to reply and ask more questions if anyone is interested.

I work at dominos and can provide some insight. The tracker does in fact usually just puts the name of the manager or other highest employee. (For example, our area supervisor shows up as "Franchise" when clocked in.) Our tracker live updates but the app is not the greatest. I've never seen it mention drivers take multiple orders before so that is probably for certain stores or franchises. Although in reality drivers will take as many as six deliveries at once depending on the route. If a driver's phone is low battery or on battery save mode, etc, the tracker updates less frequently and is not nearly as accurate. ANOTHER thing of note is that the order timings are based on orders coming in, not coming out. so if it's the middle of rush and we are backed up on orders, it may still say 20-30 mins for delivery but the actual time could be a lot longer because we just got twenty delivery orders Part of the order speed comes from the makeline screen, as at least for dominos, orders online show up before they are actually placed, so we can start them earlier or 'jump' them, if it's not busy. Our stores oven is 6:30, and has four belts. Doing ghost accounts is something ive never heard of doing, what we usually do is have them take the majority then call the store to do the rest. not the most accurate thing but most people dont pay much attention to the tracker anyways.

why was i so interested in this? maybe because i have had the same thought as you. "is the tracker legit?" and somehow you make it pretty fun to watch. idk what you do, how you have the time or money to do this crazy shit, but i love it and i am working on my envy.

Former UK domino's worker here! When the pizza is taken off the make screen, the app updates into baking, the baking is a set timer. QC is when the manager checks the pizza after cutting and boxing, then out for delivery is when it's ready for the next driver coming in, or is already on the way!
@thepenguin99 ай бұрын
Oh and the moment payment has been confirmed, it appears on the make screen, and we have 3 minutes to get that sucker in the oven Of course you can quickly work out the oven can only hold so many pizzas and you can't exactly cook it faster. So it can be havoc sometimes

Bro said "what happens when they have to go in the back and do paperwork or whatever" lol. I was an assistant manager at Dominos about 10 years ago. There isn't much in the way of paperwork honestly. I guess the closest thing is ordering food or cashing out drivers but you just usually do that during slow times or after closing/before opening. Also, in my experience, the person making the pizza is usually the manager, assistant manager, or shift runner which would be considered the manager when no manager is present.

As a software engineering manager and a previous pizza delivery guy, I've always wondered about this! The prep stage will be dynamic, because all orders show up on the screen and the individual may prepare all orders simultaneously. The baking stage will be pretty accurate. When you complete making the order, you touch to remove it off the screen (if you forget to remove it, that will cause a delay). The baking time is the same for most pizzas, typically chicken/wings take longer. This will be time based, so it should be pretty accurate. Ready for delivery will be determined when the driver punches in that he's taking the order. As mentioned, most drivers try to take as many orders as possible, so there will likely be a delay. Hope this helps! 🙂

You can walk up to any Domino's employee and just ask how this works. Trust me the near minimum wage employee doesn't care about keeping secrets for the billion dollar corporation. Every station has a screen with orders on it. As they finish their portion of the order they clear it off the screen and the "tracker" gets updated. It goes from quality check to delivery once a delivery driver is assigned your order. As for who it says is making your pizza? It will always tell you whoever the manager on shift is. That's why those names don't change much even if you order frequently. It really is that simple. As for FAQs like why does it show my pizza is ready, but it's still in the oven? Domino's get rated/audited based on their times. So if they are really busy managers will often clear orders early to make the times look better. How did they get it in the oven so fast? They can see your order being placed on the website/app. When you add items to your cart they will often start prepping them, and once you checkout they quickly finish the item and put it in. Why are they quality checking my pizza for so long? They aren't. It's waiting for a delivery driver to take it. Why is my order bouncing back and forth sometimes? Because someone screwed up your order and is bringing it back up on the screen to remake it, OR for one reason or another the driver who was originally assigned is no longer taking it. Why does it say my pizza is being delivered and the driver hasn't moved/isn't on the app? Because drivers are humans. They may have been assigned and checked out, but now are grabbing your drinks. Maybe your address is weird and they are looking at the route in advance. Or, you know, maybe they are simply putting on music in their car. They may also be taking multiple deliveries, although it seems the app tracker tells you that now. There are also older drivers who don't like the Domino's driver app and won't use it, thus you will not be able to see them driving, as that is how the app tracks the driver for you. If you have other questions, ask.

Extremely useful info. My experience has always been with the status fakeries when it says it’s picked up when it’s still in the oven. Same deal with drive through workers telling people to backup to fake their drive through stats.

In Australian dominos, order tracking is fairly accurate for delivery, slightly less accurate for pickup. There is a menu for domninos employees to see what you are in the middle of ordering, before checkout and will show them if you are mid-pay, and they can begin making the order. If your order is the only one at that point in time. Otherwise, once you place the order there is a sound queue for workers to make the pizza and once it is going in the oven, workers press a button to move it off the make-line. From there, ovens have a set timer. This can range from older models cooking for 8ish minutes (never timed it) with newer models having, 4min, 3 1/2 min and I know of a sub 2 minute model. All with Varying temperatures and fan speeds. This is calculated into the individual store's online tracker. There are 2 points of variance in the cooking stage however, 1 at the point the pizza is placed in the oven and 1 where it is taken out and cut. If the pizza is placed further in the oven than intended (shouldn't be done ever especially with newer ovens as this leads to undercooked dough/toppings) or slightly further out of the oven on the belt (doesnt affect cooking but does lead to slightly inaccurate timing depending on the speed of the oven). The second point of variance is taking it out of the oven to cut and box, this can vary based on the cutters ability. However, in locations i am familiar with, there was a camera added above the cutting station to verify that A) all the correct toppings on the pizza are there and B) the pizza was made to a certain standard. The usefulness of the camera varies, but for the tracking portion, if it detects your pizza/s have come through, it'll move the tracker to the next stage for pick up or delivery. In Australia, the delivery driver, or on busy occasions the team member who is setting up the deliveries and managing the drivers, will assign an order to a driver at a touchscreen, and that is the point the delivery will be marked as On-road, or Being Delivered on the tracker. From there, most of the time, there is a GPS that will track the driver and update the tracker with the driver's approximate location until delivery. Thats the gist of it in regards to tracking the pizza order. This system has led to some fun and interesting occasions over the years. Dominos can see how long each delivery/pick up order has taken and the average is used to find areas the store might need to improve on. Once, due to the pre-ordering screen, there was a dominos in Brisbane that was about to deliver an order within 1 minute of the order being placed.
