@@katyann4198 Same here. Comparing this movie to the previous is miles away..... there, the atmosphere was right, the timing, the editing, everything created a feeling. The reactions to your comment from other people shows that most people don't even understand basic elements of movies, they don't even pay attention to details and hence they find it "boring". If it's dead simple like Evil Dead Rise, you don't have to understand a thing, and so you cannot be disappointed. It's for simpletons. "oh hey there is a trans boy" "oh heyy there is a drone I KNOW THAT thing!!!" ... that's what they can relate to, so these things are +1 points for simpleton viewers. If the guy in the movie would grab a flashlight, and point it, you would not say anything....but when he does the lighting with HIS SMARTPHONE! That you can relate to! Mia posessed was genius....she also had a "modern" problem with her drug addiction but it actually played well with the posession theme. They even intermingled them with different character traits, and in the end she came out victorious. Something that can be relatable to a lot of humans who actually lived, and fought with their demons, or just had problems in their life. Nowadays, what's a problem? Somebody has got an older iPhone? :D End of the world.

I loved the deadite lead performance and lore in this film. Even this version of the Necronomicon itself was really well made visually, and had a great feeling of dread when it was found and opened. The vinyls were a great way to flesh out the history of the book, too. Makes it feel like the book has been doing this to people for a long, long time just like the original Necronomicon in Raimi’s trilogy. I’d love a spin-off film separate from the new modern trilogy (2013,2023,TBD) about the priest on the vinyls or an Earlier era of humankind battling deadites.

Something I noticed in this film, that I think it is a quote to the previous 2013 and Raimi's original, are the eyes of the possessed people, I mean, the family, cause, the mother has light-blue-kind-pale creepy irises, wich is new, but with the older daughter, she has orange eyes, which were used in the 2013 remake, and the son has pale, white eyes, which were used in the original. Idk if they thought about it in that way, but if they did, I think that's pretty clever, a nice reference to the old movies to add to the other hundreds.

I really liked the movie and I thought it did continue on the story, actually. The priest mentions "3 books" - the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis we know as one of them by name from the previous movie, but Army of Darkness had 3 present. Now we've seen the Naturum Demonto (which was what they called it in Evil Dead 1, renamed later and in the "remake" it was explicitly called that to start). You also saw that book had a ton more additions to it and killing the creatures actually seemed impossible (as the priest said). My only complaint was 16+ is allowed where I live and teenagers wouldn't shut tf up during the tense parts of the movie 👴

This movie wasn't anything groundbreaking. But the thing I love about the movie is how self-aware it is. It doesn't try to get you with any cheap jump scares at all and is pretty straight to the point from the opening sequence. Around the 3rd quarter of the movie it does set it's foot off the gas and gets a little dull, and even the ending sequence was a bit of a let down I felt after everything that went on until then. All in all it was a good movie, I'd rate it a 7/10.

Saw this movie a week ago and I really enjoyed it! Loved the cast, the setting, the horror aspects, the ruthlessness, the gore and violence, and smaller things like how the book played into the deadites and the things we were going to see. Imo it wasn't too dark but my theater did have the volume up pretty high lol, the opening hurt my ears a bit before I got used to it. I didn't think the jumpscares were overdone personally, but I was seeing the movie with some friends who squealed at every scare and that was just fun for me :) My critiques: - Would've liked some more characterization tbh, we get some very bare-bones establishment of our characters at the beginning and then very little of it has any bearing on the rest of the movie. The middle child was basically completely ignored, she had no character at all. The youngest girl had Staffany (which I loved) but she was basically just "youngest child." I really appreciated that the movie made no reference whatsoever to whether or not Danny was trans, that was nice to see. I personally wanted Danny to survive, I was very sad when he didn't. He at least had the music mixing that came into play and one or two moments where he got to be the caring older brother, I like those sibling dynamics. - The plot was too simplistic. And there are legitimate questions to be asked like "what IS an Evil Dead movie? Is this premise really franchise-able? How much can you push the boundaries before it would be better to just make a new movie altogether?" I love that the evil entity, the demon or whatever, has no ties to traditional ideas of religious demons and is completely unaffected by exorcisms or prayers or anything like that. Keep that, it's unique and really raises the stakes. Beyond that, have more of a plot. Have something the evil entity is trying to achieve, or some path for the protagonists to take. The plot and characters weren't the most engaging, it's the violence and gore and body horror that kept me watching, but it doesn't have to be mutually exclusive :) - I was also kinda disappointed by the final monster. I was more afraid when I saw the illustration in the book than when we saw the actual monster. It was a lot smaller than I imagined, and as the survivors were evading it around the car I was completely taken out of it, like "Oh come on, there's no way it didn't hear them moving around like that." Would've been great for it to just flip the car or something. Also we didn't get a good look at its body but it seemed to be mostly obscured by torn clothing. Personally I would've been far more horrified and disturbed if we saw its distended flesh and if the heads of the two kids were just wailing and moaning in agony rather than laughing or whatever. That would've chilled me to my core.

You have a really good point about the amalgamation monster at the end. As far as motivation for the deadites goes, I think it's the same as the previous movies. They wanted everyone dead by dawn.

Initially, I thought this channel was just a goofy personality based side channel, but it's quickly become my go to for good horror picks. Good on you bro, good on you.
