I think ultimately what scared me the most about the demon behind dad scene was the fact that in your typical horror movies, nothing scary happens during the day.. You feel safe and protected by light and expect scares in the dark/night, but when he broke that trope, it shakes you and now you question what "safe" is in a horror film. Great job James. also: fuck you Hunter that jump scare actually got me
@samsizer2919 Жыл бұрын
You know what got me about the demon behind dad bit? I was coming down the stairs and saw my mom and step-dad watching Insidious. I did not know it was a horror movie though. After all, they were a small family sitting in a living room talking. I asked them if it was the *local news*. They didn't respond. So for a few seconds, I thought they were watching some interview on TV. Then the fucking demon pops out from behind the dad and I nearly shat my pants.

*Spoilers* I loved how they revealed in the second movie that it was Josh who was ringing the doorbell and setting off the alarm to warn his family in the first movie. Found it very clever. The scariest thing I remember when seeing the first one in theaters was the soundtrack, love how unsettling it is and that was nothing I was used to in the horror genre.
@CrimsonSp33d Жыл бұрын
I loved the first one so much i saw it twice in theater. was really disappointed with the 2nd. But the way the first one lingered with jump scares, i really enjoyed. I felt like they built up to good portion of them well.

100% agree about the soundtrack. The composer Wan works with on most of his films actually plays a lot of the demons or ghosts or whatever in the films. He played Bathsheba in The Conjuring and the Darth Maul demon in Insidious. But yeah, that dude makes the most unsettling music.

Yeah. For very long time I thought Insidious was directed by the same guy as Sinister as both movies start up on very high note and completely mess up the last minutes. Same with Black Phone. It's so sad because both movies are my favorite creature horror movies till today but at the end I really feal grinding my teeth. The ending itself of Insidious is very good I think but that whole lipstick demon chase scene just ruins it. I really love the slow jumpscares of Insidious because they feel way more intense and well curated even having rewatches in mind, like the guy at the crib or the child standing between the jackets just to get scrolled over. But the lipstick demon lived from beeing shapeshifty and dreamy than beeing based on reality... Showing it in entirety as a CGI mess after they just tingled around it in the nail grinding scene is such a failure

If I remember correctly he wasn't making any noise? That is embedded in my memory because there was a lot of pulling away from monsters in like half a millisecond in other movies of the time. whatever your preferences, 4th should never be first. Third is dumb but at least it has some funny moments, the girl is cute and the ghost is scary. "The last key" is some Lifetime afternoon movie with an old woman reminiscing about her childhood. I don't need that. Elise already had drama in her life, the tragic passing of her husband, i don't need her to have a messed up past. Also, it's super weird how Specs and Tucker, who look like they are pushing 40 to be generous, behave like 16 yo teens near Elise nieces and awkwardly flirt with them. Seriously? They were nerds with a somewhat succesful youtube channel in the third one, they've seen some stuff after they started working with Elise. They're not bumbling idiots. Where are those girls in the other movies? Never mentioned once. Elise's niece can go in the elsewhere too, ask for her help. The key idea is cool, but the demon is far from scary, it's just a tall guy with dirty hair..
@munbrazeh67009 ай бұрын
I just watched the 1,2,3 and 4th movies (in a day yes i dont have a life) and i share the same feeling that the first 2 movies complete each other, and i think you should watch them back to back to enjoy the story, even though the movies arent perfect in anyway. As someone who watched them later, not in theater but after the 4th was already out, i really gotta agree with meat canyon with him putting the fourth movie as the best. I still gotta watch the last one but im not eager cause its about the lambert again and Elise is just the one that carried the whole franchise.
@Eisenwulf6668 ай бұрын
@bunny-dl2fi why? She was at least 18 at the time and she has the most screentime. Should i watch a movie with an ugly protagonist instead? Is there something wrong with being a good looking woman? It's not like the movie has much more to offer. The ghost is kind of cool, but the rest is very formulaic.

The devil from Insidious 1 kind of looks like Darth Maul but has crippling addiction to Crystal Meth.

Dude! I love Insidious 2! It’s my favourite! If anything 1 and 2 just flow into one movie, yeah 2 was stupid but in a super entertaining and fun way, I didn’t care for 3 and I completely forgot about the one you put as the best one 😂

I was 12 when insidious came out. I’m not sure why I was allowed to watch this but red demon dude gave me nightmares. This video had me laughing at some of the scenes I used to think were so scary as a kid. Masterpiece.
