I will say something postive about this movie is that they had a lot of creative ways to scare off the bogeyman. Using the refrigerator lights to scare him off and during the tv scene where the child uses flashes from the video game to try to see what is going on around.

I see a lot of parallels to Smile. -Main character's mother is dead -Therapist main character treats a new patient who has seen the monster -New patient kills themself -The therapist is haunted after witnessing said suicide -Plethora of jumpscares -Scary scene about recording of said fatal therapy session -One scary scene revealed to be a dream -Spooky scene in abandoned house -The monster goes up in flames, which claims main character's house -Monster revealed to be alive -End credit song is 50's-60's song that has nothing to do with movie -Letterboxd score is very close
@zacharybare6967 Жыл бұрын
I liked Smile but I would have preferred if the monster had been defeated in that scene and the curse had changed from having to kill someone/yourself in front of someone else to transfer it it could transfer through other trauma if close enough. Like when the sister said her son was traumatized from the party I was hoping they would do that and then a sequel would be the now cured main character trying to save her nephew while her sister thinks she is still insane

My older brother bought it on DVD and played it for me, I was also freaked out and had it in memory till now. Yeah, nowadays it's just another crap. @snarkasticdouche3863 Жыл бұрын
I mean... I was a little older when I saw that movie... I remember finding the ending quite corny, how he ends up fighting off the Boogeyman. But there were actually some really freaky scenes in that movie. Like the robe propped up on the baseball bat literally turning into the boogeyman in the dark during the opening scene. Then how the bat clatters down to the ground when he switches on the lamp. It's playing with a common fear pretty much everyone has experienced at one point in life. Also, how the little girl in the clinic that he was in as a child was screaming her lungs out, even though the room was brightly lit. Then we see that she was so scared by a tiny patch of darkness showing through a misaligned ceiling pannel. Something about that was really unnerving.

The Boogyman tale that was popular here in the US came from the conviction of a serial killer named Albert Fish. The word before that time period came from the word Bogeyman which was a hobgoblin monster. The word Bogeyman probably came from the word bugge or bogge which was middle English for "a frightening spectre". The serial killer origin is really disturbing to read about so I know why they would have called him the boogyman. He was the most deranged and evil individual I have ever heard of.

That's when I chimed in from the back of the theater and yelled "DAMN SONIC!", which cracked up the teenage boy sitting next to me lol Then girl A threw a random mans drink on girl B..then they slapped for a bit with some tasteful name calling of course, then they left. As a result the management gave all the other movie goers a free admission ticket for the disturbance...So to recap I got dinner, a movie, a show, and free entry to another film all thanks to Boogeyman :) I know no one asked, but I just wanted to share
