There’s no next Faker. He’s actually gone beyond the reach of anyone ever catching up. Even if the game lasted another 11 years.. it’s hard to say anyone could win 5 championships, 7 finals appearances, back to back win, twice. There’s no second greatest in LoL because Faker is so far ahead.

the thing with expecting a futire player to break the record is like if jordan, lebron and kobe had a baby in the nba that had the explosive impact, the mentality and longevity in the game to win 5 rings in a row and do it the same time 20 years later. if i had to quantify it, it would be this way since the drop off in mechanical skill takes much much shorter for esport players than your average basketball player's athletecism

I think there are a few things that, to me, set Faker apart from anyone. Firstly, he has to be the most humble out of all the mentioned "GOATS" of their respective games. You NEVER hear about Faker saying something he shouldnt've, doing something wrong or anything like that. He keeps completely to himself and is a GENUINELY good role model for those that look up to him, he is quite literally the complete opposite of the League community. Secondly, there have been players who have been completely dominant in their respective games for long periods but to me what sets Faker apart is that fact that he has evolved WITH the game and is STILL head and shoulders above the competition, even 10+ years later. With players and teams alike specifically targetting him and his playstyle to stop him and yet he STILL has found ways to outperform and carry at the highest level. To do that for say 3 years would be impressive, but 10??? On the biggest stage in all of eSports he still continues to be the best, convincingly. Coming back to how he has evolved, he went from a player who was the best mechanical player in the world to someone who had to lead a team of VERY young players, guide them, help them, etc. And he did it. And he won worlds with them. Twice. In a row. It's just unheard of. Lastly, he has completely and utterly transcended League. The game with over 150 million monthly players and yet he is STILL more widely known than even that. In South Korea he is as, if not more, famous than the likes of BTS and Son Hueng-Min (who himself is a FAN of Faker and T1). EVERYONE knows Faker. EVERYONE watches when he plays. He's on the levels of Messi and Ronaldo in the terms of everyone is tuning in to see him play, to witness his magic before it's too late. I think a lot of people would agree when I say it's honestly kind of a privilage to be able to watch someone of that calibre perform like he does. It's amazing. I mean he alone is the reason I even know about League. He has done more for League or even just eSports as a whole than anyone other game, player, team or org. (Keria is my goat though)

And it's not like the international competition of league makes it a challenge to korea so the higher player base holds no competitive value either way. It's a non-argument.

There can be countless debates if Faker is really the GOAT of eSports, but what he's done for League of Legends is truly astonishing. I'm sure people thought Worlds 23 victory run was it, but he ends up winning Worlds 24 too, where he ends up showing he's still good enough to lead his team to victory. In a critical situation where the opposing team is one game away from victory, he stands resolute and calm, makes game winning plays I'm sure very few players would be able to and clutches Game 4 and 5. His long career run and accolades are not just inspiring new beginner players to play this game and leave a mark but also lighting up a fire within retired league of legend players to make their comeback and fight for the crown again.

Most viewership and most popular esport does not equate to the most competitive or hardest. And, I'm saying this as someone who loves League of Legends. SonicFox has been dominated every major game he has competed in over the last decade which is 7 DIFFERENT games. They haven't waned like Faker. SonicFox has 7 EVOs for a reason which is an international tournament with an open bracket tournament unlike League. League's Worlds is a team game and it still only had 100 players across 20 teams for their biggest international tournament, but MK1 for EVO had over 640 entrants (Street Fighter 6 had over 5 thousand btw in this same prestigious tournament). Faker is dominant in a popular esport with more stability because of how their franchised league works. Fighting games are typically open bracket so no one is guaranteed a spot and are unstable because anyone can come from anywhere to rise to the top making it WAY harder to maintain any sort of continued dominance like SonicFox has. Hell, StarCraft Brood War is BY FAR the much harder game but was it as popular as League of Legends even at its peak? No. But, I'd argue that Flash is a better gamer because of how much more difficult the game is from a mechanical, macro and micro perspective. Faker is the GOAT of League and should be considered as one of the greatest gamers of our generation. But, the very best? I don't think so, but I think he'sa valid consideration. That doesn't mean you get to knock on other esports scenes and say it isn't close. It's very disingenuous to think that the most viewed esport means it's the hardest or most competitive either. Other games exist theScore esports, stop pretending that only CounterStrike, Dota 2 and League of Legends are the only ones that matter in these conversations.
@FizzLeeague18 күн бұрын
To be honest, I think your opening statement is just flatly wrong. The playerbase size does literally equate to how competitive a game is. Magnus Carlsen is so exceptional because SO many people play chess and yet he embarrasses everyone almost all of the time. Faker has the largest pool of competition of any esports (and it isn't close) and he has been the best for a very long time. Also - more competition leads to a higher rate of improvement because everyone learns from each other.

I respect SonicFox but he aint the goat, but the thing is unlike MOBA or FPS game, fighting game isn't really a mainstream game I will call SonicFox goat if he single-handedly makes Fighting game mainstream game or famous on the other side Faker which is the goat of esports made League a mainstream game and famous due to his mechanics which leads him to his championship on early years Plus, you saying that there are other games harder than league is stupid its like saying Michael Jordan and Messi shouldnt be the very best on sports since baseball or rugby is much harder sports or even boxing and those are more harder sports Its not like sports have one Goat we have Messi, MJ, Ali and so on, and these people I mentioned are so famous that they are recognized even if you know nothing of the sport And Faker is the Goat and the very best on esports could ever see because the mastery of one sport is already special I respect SonicFox really have watch him sometimes, but he aint the GOAT, make him Fighting game mainstream Goat and very best is earned not by playing hard competition, Let's try someone who play FPS pro a MOBA game I guarantee you he will never be a pro level or if you believe SonicFox is the greatest esports player let him play League??? You see the point???
@timaragon17 күн бұрын
@@FizzLeeague I do think the size of competition and competitive players is a factor to consider, but it is not the end all or be all. The complexity of the game itself has to come into question because that is where techiques, mechanics, strategy and whatnot can be measured. Your comparison itself can show this. Chess is popular and Magnus Carlsen is exceptional but he's playing a solved game where every possible move has been figured out and defined by a computer. Compare that to the game of GO which is a simpler game rules wise but is by far a more complex game that no computer can play at a professional level unlike chess. It is not a solved game by any means and is considered the most deeply strategic game ever made. That leads to the question. Would you consider Magnus Carlsen the greatest board game player in his domination of chess that is essentially a solved game? Or, would it be Go Seigen, a historic Go player that pioneered the modern way to play a strategic game where the correct/perfect answer is impossible to determine because of the strategic complexity? In short, I'm saying there's no correct answer to this whole thing and people will have their own values and opinions on it. There's so many factors to consider in what makes the best gamer. Player size is a factor and it matters. Strategic and mechanical depths of a game are a factor and they matter. Frankly, games of different genres require different skill sets and calling someone the greatest gamer means excelling in all facets. More complex and more mechanically demanding games are by nature just more competitive because it is harder to win and be competing and League of Legends is not the hardest mechanically or more complex game around. So, that should be a factor. And, dismissing other games just for being smaller without considering their mechanics, complexity and whatnot is just being disingenuous. To show perhaps a bit more simply to why your argument for playerbase size is just a fallacy, let's do a real sports comparison. If your argument is to be believed, soccer should be the most competitive athletic sport in the world, right? Since it's by far the most popular? Or do we consider studies from Physicists using the winning ratio that argue that baseball and the MLB might be the most competitive sport? Or, do we consider what athletes consider the most exhaustive and physically demanding like boxing/MMA/combat sports? Even though those sports will by far have less competitors because of the risk involved? Should they just be dismissed from the conversation just because less players compete? Do you see what I'm getting at here? Playerbase does not inherently mean that the game is more competitive. It's just one of the factors you have to consider.
@timaragon17 күн бұрын
@@san8838 Where did I say SonicFox was the GOAT? I was simply making an argument that they were dismissing SonicFox unfairly from the conversation. If anything, I was calling out that they were dismissing someone like SonicFox when even within the fighting game space they ignored legitimate contenders who are arguably better like Justin Wong, GO1, Kazunoko, Tokido and etc. You're also making arguments without properly explaining your thought process. Why do you believe a game being mainstream matters in it's competitive integrity or viability? Why does that matter? Why does being transcendent in one game make you the best? Your arguments are so disconnected. You're simply saying something and acting like it's fact without following through on why. They're dysfunctional at best. Like, we are on a video debating the greatest gamer yet you're making sports comparison that says there's isn't one GOAT. Please, try to be more coherent next time. You simply brushed games being harder as stupid when they are literally one of the things you measure competitve games in. Harder games are more competitive because they have more in depth mechanics something you praised Faker for. Of course, they should be a factor because you can actually measure and see strategy, mechanics, macro, micro and whatnot between games. Like, no one is going to call tic tac toe or connect four a strategically complex and mechanically demanding game. Not all games are created equal in terms of complexity-mechanically and strategically. Anyway, this will be my last reply to you because your arguments just have so many holes in them and are frankly, nonsensical.

Why are people comparing Flash to Faker? Flash is definitely the best solo esports player of all time. SonicFox/Arslan aren't even worth putting in this conversation right now just due to how dominant Flash is. But Faker's accomplishments are far beyond that of Flash in terms of difficulty. Flash's Starcraft journey is basically just one patch while Faker's run in League is an ever changing game yearly where it's barely comparable to what it is today from last year. Not only that, it's a team game. Faker had countless teammates throughout the years and he managed to win Worlds twice in a row with different teams, and then wins his third with different teams, win his fourth and fifth with the same team. You have to understand that the "greatest players of today" with superteams like JDG, GEN G, BLG, literally all teams that people consider "the best" in 2023 2024 Faker and T1 beat them all in a crazy fashion and dominance. The fact that in 15 years of League the only players who has won worlds twice are players that were teammates with Faker. The only one who won worlds twice without Faker is BeryL. You can't compare solo games to team games. It's wildly different, more difficult and overall a much more different environment.
