Saltwater changed my whole perspective on fluoro vs mono. Saltwater you NEED that stretch and believe it or not it’s twice as abrasion resistant as fluoro. You’ve got to weigh your battles and analyze the structure you’re going to be fishing around. If you still want the “stretch” of mono but the sensitivity of fluoro bump down an action on your rod

I finally have a decent retort to this. If i run straight mono or floro mainline where im from the bottom is so snaggy you would be buying up so much mainline your head would spin. I use braid to flouro for all my bottom contact methods because if i get hung up i dont lose any of my mainline simple as that. Braid is fine for carolina rigs and its even better for a bank bound guy because you can cast farther. Its my go to for carolina rig, jig and texas rig applications. I fish every day so don't say I'm not serious as an angler lolz

I agree! as someone that is also bank bound, I have been using braid to a leader for the last few years with good success. The only complaints I have about this are the noise of the leader knot going through the guides and having to tie that leader knot. Neither of which are too bad to deal with. I think next year (or the rest of this year?) I am going to fish my typical braid to leader next to one reel with straight fluorocarbon to see which gets more bites or better hook up ratio.

I disagree on the stretch. My trilene floro has a ton of stretch after a few trips. I went back to trilene big game and don’t regret it

Same here. Used 12lb big game 20 years ago and it worked fine and still does. I don't notice any difference in fish caught with fluoro vs mono. We do fish stained water most of the time, though.

I totally understand your channel is geared primarliy towards tournament fishing so it make sense that you would optimize your equipment despite the extra cost/any negatives because at the end of the day, you have to catch as many fish as possible. I have learned a ton from your videos, but sometimes your recommendations for gear are a bit over my head. I’m a regular guy looking to go fishing maybe once a week if that and I just use mono and some cheaper rods and reels. Would you be able to make a series on fishing setups for people who want to buy basic equipment and still have a good catch? Keep making videos and I really appreciate the knowledge you drop on us!

Have to agree with Randy, unless I’m fishing totally topwater, I go fluorocarbon or braid
@Txdoubledigit4 ай бұрын
Randy I tried it and actually tried several brands. I was breaking off big fish here in Texas on the hook set both jigs and big power worms. Then I was told I shouldn’t use the Palomar knot I have used all my fishing life for most baits. Apparently fluorocarbon doesn’t like the Palomar. I went back to plain old cheap super strong big game. I will try it again with other knots just to see if I missed something.

Braid with fluoro leader for everything for strength and sensitivity...softer rod tip where needed in lieu of stretch.

I like the invisx better than the trilene floro, it seems softer , baitcasters seem less fussy but the spinning reels with floro can have line coiling off spool if you have too much line on, the spinning reels seem like they do better if filled to 70 or 80 percent full

I use fluorocarbon on all my bait casters but when I spool it on a spinning reel it just wants to jump off the reel. Yes I’m spooling in the right direction and I don’t overfill.

I know your holding up Seaguar line but I bought red label and it did nothing but break. I could feel little bumps in it and I lost about 3 lures just casting and removed it and went back to mono.
@edmundhenderson65594 ай бұрын
I've given fluoro many trials, I've bought all the top quality lines, but I've never been able to get passed how delicate it is. And no it's not the knots I tie. It's thinner at the same pound test, but that is just a marketing gimmick. Pline cxx at equivalent diameter is much stronger than any fluoro line. I always change my line, whatever type, every day. I can't fish flouro more than 1 hour without it weakening to the point where it could break at any moment. I've lost so many nice fish on flouro that I can't use it.

A:only if it’s just used as a leader in very clear water; otherwise, you’re wasting your money. (OBTW, fluorocarbon polymers are on average 3-5 times more expensive than Polyamide 6-10 and about 10 times more expensive than Dacron polyester).

14lb flouro on every reel. for every application(bait). only respool when the backlash is so bad I can't get it out. At least one reel on every trip.

I find these equipment cost comparisons an absolute joke. You talk about the sacrifice of spending $30 on 300 yards of fluoro vs $15 for 300 yards of quality mono and in the next breath you say how you can't catch a fish if your not using a $5oo Mega-Bass rod with a $400 Shimano reel to throw your $60 glide bait. Talk about pandering for the merchandizers.
@scottlucas7404 ай бұрын
After watching this video I’m totally disappointed. You’re a good guy at heart but you’re misleading your viewer base about fluorocarbon line. It is smaller diameter,it sinks faster,it has pitiful knot strength and breaks for no reason (and less stretch is questionable)That’s the reason most pros use 17-25 flouro when they use to use 12-17 mono or copoly. All about a dollar. Shameful.

@jasoncummings17554 ай бұрын
Totally agree! Mono is way stronger than flouro when you compare diameter to diameter. Ive seen test where 15lb mono beat 20lb flouro in break strength. Also, flouro stretches more than the advertisers say. It stretches nearly as much as mono and on the visibility, its all subjective. Ive seen all the test and mono wins everytime.

@@jasoncummings1755 Thank you. I’ve very anal and I’ve learned that you can’t believe anything you read on a label.
