Unpopular opinion: with the exception of some extremes, tuning is really just a personal preference. Sure, you can tune your car to be statistically faster, but that speed won't mean anything if the rest of the tune doesn't support your driving style personally. Maybe you're a little aggressive with your cornering. The tune that's going to get YOU the fastest lap times is not going to help the dude with excellent control in cornering. They'd likely want their tune to give them more speed on straights. Oversimplified, tuning is really just compensating for where any given driver needs some extra help. And as your skill as a driver increases, your preferred tuning might change. That's probably why so many people report good luck with forzatune and others say it isn't helpful at all. A lot of racers are more on the casual side of things. So even a base level tune might help the shave some time off of their laps. Meanwhile, people who are really into tuning, would mark a base tune as inefficient because not only are they use to custom tuning, but also because their skill cap is higher. Meaning they need their tuning to do different things.

I can understand the reasons for that opinion about them, and I really appreciate being warned about the topic. It's better to read or watch videos tuning guides and slowly develop your own tunes based on that. Imo the best one is the one that Sepi made, it has given me the best results when racing online, which is really competitive. I used this app for FH4 tunes to get a nice starting point from which to develop the tune further and the results were working. However when I moved over to FH5, I noticed that it gave much the same results as FH4 did, despite FH5 having a different handling model than FH4. Still, I used it thinking that I'd get a good starting point, not knowing that it's actually a lot worse than the default tunes. Certainly disappointing, but at least I know that from now on.

Abit late to the party but i use this app and it is actually pretty good for a basetune. Why would you just keep the tune it gives you, it even says to play with it abit. For me i always got frustrated with the suspension setting and this has honestly helped alot… plus everyone drives differently….so imo there isnt any good tunes. I’ve downloaded a few tunes from “Top tuners” but honestly they suck but thats only because i drive different to them….. its a tool not a savior 😂

what i will say about forzatune i bought it just to give it a try and maybe ide learn something. First things first if you messed up your car in the upgrades section then you can only polish a turd so much. I used forzatune as a base tune with great success the cars handle like a dream but now that i have learned about some of the mistakes i was making in my own tuning i have improved on forzatunes and now i dont use the app unless im feeling lazy and want a quick base tune. It doesnt hit the nail on the head every time but damn close usually only need minute changes based on driving preference. I will say pick the right tire compound for your class and use a square tire setup (even width all around) upgrade all suspension components. Forzatune will accommodate a setup like that because its not anticipating all the understeer created from wide rear tires.

Instead of all this back and forth, why don't we have @SP4 and the maker of ForzaTune make 4 builds for 4 cars for the 4 different racing disciplines and use them on 4 different tracks. Test them and also release those tunes to the public as well to avoid any potential accusations of bias from testers. If the maker of ForzaTune is claiming his app is merely starting point, then let him finish each tune personally and judge that. If @ForzaTune still loses, that should be irrefutable evidence that the very foundation of the app doesn't work in FH5.

This right here. Just because a tune is a "top" tune does not mean every good driver can use it well. Because I play racing sims, I expect for my cars to oversteer A LOT and hardly understeer. Most top tunes are understeering monsters which makes me scratch my head because if they tried playing any racing sims with tunes like that, they would spin out 24/7.

@@Delimon007 its because they are using a controller most of the time. They don't have the ability to have a super smooth and balanced turn in. Also there are a lot of AWD cars in Forza that just don't oversteer. Also the way the tires load up in Forza Horizon 4/5 means that your basically driving by following the default racing line, with basically zero ability to use slip angle and requiring the use of the handbrake for rotation in slow speed/tight corners. Entering the corner at the exactly optimal speed in order to just barely make the corner, while using really fine micro-adjustments to the throttle and brakes in the corner to manage your line. Something you couldn't never actually get away with in a sim because you would just be unsettling the car a bunch mid-corner. But FH4/5 are basically made to be driven on the controller so this doesn't really unbalance the car in the mid-corner. For a lot of those kind of setups, the driving style they are going for has almost no mid-corner rotation at all. you do most of your turning really early into the corner, and try to get the car as straight as possible, as early as possible for the exit. Especially with AWD cars. Also since so many of the tracks are combination street and dirt, that setup allows you to have a really really stable car on dirt. If you notice the cars don't really "rotate" as much as the whole car just fishtails the direction you want to go. Basically, they don't really blend their corners. the brake early, turn in early and then just try to accelerate straight out the corner through the apex. If there's any blending going on, its just turning in really aggressively and sort of understeeing through the apex and letting it take them out to the edge of the track on corner exit. you can be extremely fast with RWD cars if you know what your doing, especially if its all on street. But a lot of drivers don't ever want to lose the rear in the corners and since there are so many mixed surface races, drive primarily AWD cars and get what little rotation they can through heavy use of trail braking and like I said earlier, extremely fine control and modulation of throttle and brakes using a controller. Also a lot of defaulting to the most popular setups, which aren't necessarily the fastest, but tend to be much more manageable.

@@e2rqey Slip angle still exists in forza but yea, not in a realistic fashion. In FM7 for example, there are times where my slip angle is using 30 degrees and sometimes even more. That is not even remotely realistic. I also agree that forza drivers don't know what true weight balance/shifting is. I explain it to even the top drivers in great detail, like the fact that you have no way to apply understeer in the middle of a corner (this means through acceleration, braking, etc. In forza, like you said, you can brake mid corner, in a real racing sim, your brakes are set up to actually oversteer so you're applying more oversteer NOT understeer while also using more of your tyres grip to do so. Forza doesn't show this, real racing sims do). They laugh at me saying I have no idea what I'm talking about, but you can literally watch pro drivers play iRacing and it becomes clear VERY fast that there isn't any understeer. All the cars are oversteering so if you F up, you're done. It is extremely hard to recover from a spin and keep going. You don't have slides that last for 10 years. You are mostly just sliding around corners but in a sim (as you said) you need to use the slow in, fast out strategy or you WILL lose time. In Forza you can take different lines and make a similar time. This is not possible in a racing sim. I also agree that people default to the most balanced/planted set ups. Most good drivers do not use these types of set ups and I mean REAL drivers and sim drivers, not arcade drivers. You race to the limit so you set up your car to hit said limit. You are always racing on your limit which is why racing is so tiring. I can play forza for hours if I want to. At the most, I am not playing a racing sim for more than 2-3 hours.

I have a world record tune. Your guide is basically spot on. And while I'm not going to publish the rough guideline starter tune I apply to any vehicle to make it instantly good if not great, I will say this - you are absolutely correct in your assessments and even your existing tuning guide, outdated though it may be due to recent updates, is a great place to start from. Tuning for fh5 is not and will probably never be analogous to real life tuning. Anyone making a paid app for tune calculators is a charlatan and a fraud. Just play the damn game and figure it out or use someone else's tune. I have been playing forza since the beginning: version 1 to 8. I started to use the app for a week and instantly all my cars are having more grip and handling is much more better! I do not understand why you are getting slower results. I assume it is not good for the Horizon series. I never used that app for horizon but only for Forza Motorsport 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. You should test it on original Forza and not Horizon. I always felt that horizon série feel more like an arcade games unlike Forza Motorsport series.

I heavily disagree with the video as I’ve created monster tunes with the app. I use the app to get me close to my preferences and then I make small tweaks and adjustments to my liking. I have S1 2019 911 gt3 rs that can beat the Viper AE, Mosler,XJR-15, and 2005 ford gt50. I think that’s what the app is made for. Also it sets the tires pressure to equal PSI. You want the wheels bearing the majority of the weight to be 0.5-1.0 PSI higher than the wheels that don’t bare as much weight. I’m friends with players that follows SP4’s tuning guide and I still beat them even without the app.

You say the values from the app are almost the same as stock, but then you tell that it is way slower? How should that even be possible? The app makes your car stiffer or not based on the wight. A light car always gets stiffer and a heavy car gets less stiff, which is completely fine. The app does not create a final tune, it is just a basic tune and you need to adjust the parts you don't like. You complain about understeer, when you build a muscle car with AWD swap and probably did not even adjust the differential. How should this app tell you how much downforce you need? If you drive a small city track you need other values compared to a sprint with long fast corners. Btw nobody likes to used Forza-splitter and Forza-spoiler, so no reason to adjust it anyway.

I tried: Hoki hoshi quick tune method Forza Tune BG55 QuickTune Tune It Yourself Forza Tune and BG55 suspension sucks but i think they are worth for gear ratio tuning, BG55 apparently was shut down :( but it was great because you could customize it for your personal preference. Whatever for suspension until now what worked the best for me is Hoki Hoshi method and Tune It Yourself they are a little overly stiff but consistent and easy to drive. This is how I've been tuning: Tire pressure: between 32 to 34 hot Camber: 2.0 front 1.0 rear Caster: 6.0 ARB" HH method Springs: HH method Ride height: 50% Rebound: HH method Bump: 50% of rebound value Brakes: 49% / 100% Differential: Front engine RWD: 40% Acceleration and 10% Deceleration Mid or Rear engine RWD: 40% on Both Acceleration and Deceleration FWD: 40% Acceleration, 0% Deceleration I would go faster making my own full custom tune? Probably yes, the problem is when i look at that tune menu i don't know from where i should start or where I am and where i should go. I can spend hours adjusting my car thinking I'm making it faster just to try my old method and realize the car isn't faster i just learned a better racing line on that circuit from spending so much time driving on it.

Forza Tune for gearing works but final drive needs adjusting, unfortunately BG55 appears to be down :( QuickTune needs playing around with the advanced settings to optimize your tune but I think it’s mainly due to driving style. There’s a suspension tuning spreadsheet available in the forum which is what I’ve been using and even though it’s a bit stiff the cars I’ve been using it for are more stable and predictable to drive.

@@racdude01 The first one, you will need manual transmission, put a high gear and drive on the highway until your telemetry shows the max torque, now just look what is the highest RPM the engine still making maximum torque For example full stock 2016 Dodge Viper ACR max torque is 600 ft-lb at 5000 rpm Obs: You need to stay full throttle Engine upgrades can change the max torque RPM You can make the gear ratio longer to make it easier to look the telemetry

Forzatune has been around since like FM4. I can guarantee you they haven't changed any of the formulas that generate the tunes. Just some UI updates and whatnot to make sure it works for newer phones. It's never been good.

I don't know where else to post this so I'm gonna write it here since there is a good chance somebody capable of helping reads it. I have some ideas about "rating" different tunes for a given car by capturing and analyzing some data from its performance in a somewhat automated manner. For example, one kind of data I'd like to analyze for a given car and tune is that given a speed v, what is the maximum angle it can turn without losing grip while maintaining a speed of v. If someone has a way to capture this kind of data from the game or has already captured it, you can get in touch and I may be able to run some math through it and try to find some ways to tune cars better.

Thanks, man. These comments are a bit of a bummer since I put a lot of work into the free app too. And the difference in times here are easily explained by things like gearing. This app is designed to help people learn tuning and see how things change. So that when they get the tune how they want it, it was earned and not simply handed to them.

"Make BETTER tunes FASTER" - Its actually not doing that and 2. 6$ price for not doing what its claiming to do, how can you suggest this deserves any type of respect? Respect is earned. In this case they could have earned some respect by either making an app that does what it says, or not asking 6$ for the thing. The argument of "give respect/credit for trying" isn't a very good one since trying is not very hard, but making a good product is. Also, not Forza related: respecting people or giving them credit for just trying takes away any reward of succeding in something or being proficient in it in the first place. I hope you understand the point.

Was that really the first time they made a custom GT2 tune? Probably not. Did they check the tires and alignment on the ForzaTune result like I recommend for more competitive tunes? Probably not. Also, if it only has three usable gears, then it probably has a wide power band and you can save time shifting. Might still want to adjust final drive a bit depending on the track. Having tunes based on reality helps make the tune adjustments more predictable and reliable. It also helps us avoid tunes getting detonated when they release fixes for their physics engine, etc. etc. could write a book on all this...
