Genetics screening can highlight a propensity to certain cancers, I suspect because it shows where repair genes are broken, so cancers are less likely to be naturally eradicated. Cancer is primarily a cell dividing but instead of then growing it keeps dividing, making a mass of immature, unproductive cells. If a cell just keeps growing it will die. If it never divides it will die out. A simple error in that cycle gives a cancer growth, normally by mutations in the dna which we accumulate over years, but the error correction system, if working, will correct. If already diagnosed with cancer, I can’t see a diagnosis or curative advantage to the patient in DNA screening but they can inform their children of some DNA heightened risks. I spoke at length with a cancer researcher, a college of hers did DNA screening which indicated heightened risks of ovarian cancer, she decided to have a hysterectomy. Years later the link between that DNA variant and cancer was debunked and she regretted her decision, I think there is a warning about the over confidence of man with understanding the immensely specific, optimised, complicated information system design of DNA.
