I would say for Sushi chains, Itacho has the best sushi. That should be the next for you to try. Maybe a sushi tournament where you try all the different brands.

Too much mentaiko. I think mentaiko is delicious if used in the right amount, it's pretty similar to cheese and mayo, too much of it makes you wanna puke.

It is nice to see people who knows how to eat sashimi the proper way, putting some wasabi on top and dip the fish in soy sauce. For those who mix their wasabi into the soy sauce, a lot of the flavour and nice spiciness of wasabi is lost and the taste of the soy sauce is also affected. Next time, try the proper way and be surprised with the good flavours.

eatbook: 9 out of 10 singaporeans will say they like genki me: itacho is my first choice, and genki my 2nd. but genki at taka is never my first choice cos the service and food standard was not great compared to other branches

Agreed. Sushi express would be a much better option. Genki is really too overpriced + their standard isn't even that great for that kind of price tag :/ The only good thing i would say is the train concept

Interesting. I find Itacho to be the overpriced option, they always have issues with waiting times for food. Think it depends on the person's taste, sushi express is worth it for a quick craving but quality I don't find to be all that great. I'd rather get the packed stuff from cold storage or fairprice.

Genki at orchard central was great before but my last visit few weeks ago was bad. Menu items were much lesser than before and quality definitely isnt as good before. Feels like a change of management

i find sushi should be all about the freshness of the seafood, and you only flavor it with a bit of soy sauce and for some wasabi for the kick, to put lots of mayo, or cheese sauce, mentaiko sauce or teriyaki sauce to cover the taste of the food, its like really very "un-sushi like" for me, i recently just started going to Genki because i registered as a member with the app, i find myself ordering from the DMZ more often, like the Salmon Belly and the Sashimi platter. the other "non sushi" dishes like the Don and noodles, i find there are places that does it better. i would stick to Maguro, Salmon nigiri, Sashimi Platter, the Sukiyaki Beef sushi, reminds me of a mini Gyu Don. i would avoid anything with mayo, or sauce added on the food. my idea of sushi is like == raw fish/seafood, with rice.. so it needs only 2 items fish and rice.. (soy u add a bit later).

Is there a hype about Genki sushi? I always thought it is one of those non-Japanese sushi chain, with localised sushi flavour to cater to local tastebuds. Price points is also at very low end to cater to the masses.
