I needed to hear this today!! I feel like I have been in exactly this same situation with a man for years - a constant cycle of building me up only to tear me down… I finally broke it off, walked away, and cut him off for a few months. Now he is pursuing me again and promising me the world. It has been really good between us for a few months but I still don’t trust him. I guess my question is, in your experience, can people truly change or is this just the beginning of another cycle with him? It seems different this time after taking a break for months (I had never cut him off before), but I have fallen for his empty promises only to be burned. That in itself is probably my answer.

I was with a time waster for many years. Throughout the ending of my twenties I am now approaching my mid thirties in 2 years I’ll be 35 and we are finally married and have blended our family. And have an infant together. However, these issues do still arise where he at times does not know how to problem solve and will want to escape or even state he is leaving the relationship. Yet never does. I wonder what your advice would be on this Andrienne. Would appreciate it! I did your ABC’s to get him back and I did. Love your work and your self study material.

I’m glad the ABCs helped you!! He’s got a quitter mentality when things get tough and likely gets attention when he flips the game board over - yet doesn’t want to leave home. This is what he does so what if you just let him have his “vent” session and trust it will all work out? So this is where you let him know that together “we can do hard stuff” and that you get he needs to express he wants to quit and if that helps him feel better you will let him vent all the “quits “ he needs. You can name it the “quitting vent,” or something but then express that ultimately you and the baby want a man who can stand by and take a few deep breaths and together take on the world. Deep down it stings and scares you to hear he wants to quit, but yes sometimes you want to quit too. You can remind him: “we got this.” You can be vulnerable: I don’t have it all figured out either. Then relax and make sure to not give him too much attention when he melts down and let it unfold. Do you have any advice on dealing with an alcoholic partner? Or would the drama triangle advice work for something like that? I used the "i feel terrible" thing yesterday and i did realize that it helped avoid a blow up fight. But i still feel really unheard about the way some of his behavior makes me feel. I'm not sure. I will be 33 this year and he has not proposed or has even asked me to move in. I am ready to be a wife and a mom and I really don't want to wait after 35 to have a baby. Whenever I bring it up, he thinks I am rushing him. How can I bring it up when he gets defensive about it?

@@heatherva don't bring it up multiple times. Just ask him once what are his long-term plans are in regards to this relationship. Then tell him that you would like to get married within 6 months or so and if it's not in his plans, it's OK too and you respect his decision, but if it doesn't happen in 6 months, you would have to remove yourself from his life. Then go enjoy your life. DON'T bring it up anymore. Trust me, he will make the decision way faster than 6 months, he just might not tell you about it. This approach will save you time irregardless of his decision.

Oh I have so many ideas for you!!! 1. RJL starts now! No more thinking that feels upsetting (even if temp “true”.) 2. Be aware when your thoughts feel heavy or negative - aim to shift them in an opposite direction of “this is possible” 3. There are groups in your area for moms to socialize. Have your explored those? 4. RJL with you and the bebe! I've been texting a guy from date site since wk b4 xmas haven't seen him since he came meet me once he lives 2 hrs away I send so many quotes he agrees loves all I send him says he wants all of them and says he really wants me misss me but there's no effort to video chat come see me to do all relationship things go on dates I tell him what I want from him or expect from him he agrees he also texted that we need finish what we started I said how can we if u don't make plans he then says yes I have make time it's been months since seen me I'm 63 he's 53 he said age don't matter says he plans spending more time soon what do u think
