I have used hyaluronic acid for years but rather than wet my face I actually put some water on my hands and mix it with the acid and then apply it to my face. Then top with my moisturizer. I find this also helps it get absorbed better. I would never go without it.

Do folks who complain of drying put essence, then the HA, & then mist after the HA? Because it will penetrate, but it needs moisture to grab… I mist down with rosewater, after HA, but I also chug a half to full litre of water (along between my morning coffees), too…

I wish The Ordinary included this information in their hyaluronic acid product. At least I realized the culprit before my skin dried beyond repair and cracked off. It really did dehydrate my face something awful. I have applied with moist skin then my nighttime cream but it still feels weird on my skin. I think I am going to throw it out. Not a fan of something so tricky to apply. *IF it felt luxurious and nourishing I wouldn't mind but I get none of that from applying HA before an occlusive moisturizer Thanks for the info and the glycerin tip.

Thank you Gemma what an informative practical video but Heavens! I haven’t been sealing the pot! That’s a bit of a problem for my 58 year old skin….If I change to using the hyalauronic acid at night can it be used in conjunction with my tretinoin? Also is Ceravee a good enough moisturiser? If not what is? A list would be very very helpful…In fact it would be absolutely great Gemma if you could go over what the older audience can do to maximise hydration & address the use of tretinoin as well… i do find the order of application of all the potions serums creams & lotions really confusing 🥴… discovering your channel has shed a beam of light into the confusing world of skincare even though in my case it may be shutting the door after the horse has bolted! 😅 Great job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍

I could have written this word for word myself. Just thinking there must be hundreds of thousands of women our age who've learned about skin care on KZbin. I feel my skin has definitely benefitted from the advice I've followed because I was a total skincare novice but it's clear from Gemma's video that we can actually do more harm than good even whilst using the 'right' products. It's all very confusing 😕

You can use both HA and tretinoin together as long as you allow your skin to dry before tretinoin. I'd leave 20 minutes in between. If you're using a moisturiser with HA in, you don't need an extra serum though xxx

Totally agree with every word. I’m definitely ditching my HA serum now and sticking with the CeraVe as Gemma has suggested in her reply. You right it’s a minefield out there but since following Gemma for about two years now my 61 year old skin has definitely benefited 😊

I think that a lot of people forget that hylauronic acid can increase the absorption of actives used in the same routine. I still use Hada Labo Gojyukun Premium in the evenings on damp skin before my nightly moisturizer (I use my Curology before going to bed). I have been doing this for a while now. I apply the HA to wet skin, let it dry a little and then put moisturizer on right away. It's not really difficult. I think everyone just wants a quick fix, miracle solution. Just rub it on and go. That's not how HA works. It works really well for me when I apply it this way. I have super dry skin and this hydrates my skin better than any other method.

I find this very interesting as I was told by a specialist doctor using in skincare application on top of skin I would be aswell sticking money in the bucket. He advised the molecules are too large to penetrate the skin so a waste of time ie it will sit on top of your skin and do nothing. He just shook his head. Biggest recom he gave was retinol and vitamin c. HA Is meant to be amazing “under” the skin however and where you get the biggest benefits on everything you’ve mentioned

HA is generally used in filler as the molecular structure is large and can't penetrate the skin that well. Sodium hyaluronate is much small and easier to absorb xxx

Hi Gemma great video. I bought the deciem Hyaluronic acid (MMHC2) and was confused as they say to use to dry skin. So l emailed and got this response... Not sure what to make of it tbh. X There is a lot of "buzz" on blogs, Instagrams and Influencers right now about putting Hylaronic Acid on damp skin. Let me clarify DECIEM'S view on this. " Hyaluronic Acid (HA) hydrates the skin through retaining moisture from its surroundings. The Hyaluronic Concentrate contains a 19% Marine Hyaluronic Complex of HA crosspolymer, Tremella fuciformis (derived from mushrooms), red marine algae, and tamarind. The HA crosspolymer retains water for delayed and slow delivery of hydration in the skin, promoting the skin to retain its own moisture and thus minimise the need for any additional surface hydrating products overtime. The incorporation of the actives Tremella fuciformis and Red marine algae provide a boost of below-surface hydration within the skin,C further supporting the hydrating capacity of HA and encouraging the skin to increase its own water retaining capacity. You may wish to use the product on damp skin, but this will not impact the hydrating efficacy of hyaluronic acid."

Light bulb moment; I haven't been using serums on damp skin. Thanks for this great video Gemma 😍. I used to the Ordinary HA but stopped using it because I found that it pills also some of my current serums contain HA. Which Glycerin product do you use?
