Ehhhh I hard disagree with this review. Indy is an adventurer first and this game is that. Seems like you were expecting this to be Uncharted Indy edition and it was never going to be that. No disrespect at all.

I think I just expected it to be a bit less heavy on the stealth and wanted combat to be a bit more developed than just fist fights LOL but yeah Indy being an adventurer works for the adventure genre but not so much the action adventure genre imo

I think you were 100% spot on with your critiques but I still enjoyed the game regardless. One of those games I was really happy I was able to get on GamePass.

Many of the action set pieces are just lacking. I almost think that Machine Games was too scared to go hard with the action because of Uncharted comparisons. But many of the movies do show Indy getting into awkward shoutouts, escaping from the burning buildings, etc. And these moments are just to far and few between in this game.

also pairing Indy with a new character only works if the audience cares about her as much as him. I am sure her sisters death was supposed to be this impactful moment, but considering weve only known her for a handful of hours, it falls pretty flat.

I dont agree with the review but its a fair perspective. To each their own. This is far closer to an Indiana Jones simulator than a action adventure game. The combat was "clunky" in the same way the movies were. It definitely felt like a purposeful choice by the studio to stay true to the films even if it wasnt the better choice for a "video game" feel. It was my personal GOTY but that is likely partially due to deep nostalgia for the films. So this was my dream game scenario for Indy. Either way, appreciate the different perspective on the review.

YES Thank you for this lovely reply. I agree, I WANT people to enjoy the game if they really liked it and liked this kind of game/Indiana Jones. It just wasn't for me and other players who may have similar tastes to me may feel the same.

Very thorough review. I personally loved the game, but can see how it wouldnt jive with others that prefer more action. I think you are leaning a little too much into just the categorization of the genre here, you are right that this isnt a traditional action adventure game but i wouldnt say thats a negative personally. There arent really any other major games with this structure, so its just tough to put into any one genre. I would also definitely say you missed out by skipping side content, that is where a lot of Gina's development is shown and they really just add to the main story.

The side content was incredible! It ties into the main plot so we'll that it FEELS like it was once part of it then trimmed back. None of it felt like filler, it was all so beautifully woven in and added so much to the narrative.

Yeah I think it's just sad that I have to do side content when the base gameplay loop doesn't really vibe well with my tastes, so I was less inclined to explore more side content and miss out on their interactions. But a lot of people don't do side quests as well so having good connections in the main quest should be a priority for games!

This game was my GOTY on Xbox with AstroBot 2nd and FF7 Remake closing out the top 3. If I beat a game, but keep playing to get 100% completion that means it really stuck with me. Well, I am 99% done, but a bug is preventing me from completing the Royal Army Radio Transmissions in Sukhothai. If they don't patch it, I'll happily play it again on my PC. Once you get a hang of the gameplay loop and figure out that you don't have to stealth everything, it really opens up. Bring on the sequels. MachineGames is definitely onto something.

The developers marketed it as an adventure-action game and specifically said it was *not* action-adventure. If a review intends to erect criteria for judging it based on other games in its genre at least make sure you know which genre the game is actually in.

It's categorized in that genre yes but I don't think changing the order of the words really changes what it was trying to emulate. BUt totally fine, I mean once I realized what the gameplay loop would be I understood it. BUt it just wasn't my cup of tea, ultimately.

Great review Stella, I hope that this cast and crew get another shot to retool what an Indy game ought to be, because everything just looked slow and clunky to me, especially everything in third person.

People keep praising it but it really was just a mid game in my opinion. Another Machine Games 7. Level design was bad, couldn’t skip cutscenes(that I could find), several bugs that hindered gameplay and the collectibles were too much of a grind with no real reward. It’s not something I’d play again if a NG+ were added.

The gameplay looks clunky/goofy af and also it sucks you can’t just shoot and kill everyone if you want. Having to fist your whole way through the game is annoying

I couldn't feel any chemistry between Gina and Indiana either😅😅 The game is pretty good but the narrative is so weak that I don't care about any "circles" or anything about Indiana😅
