At first this song wasn't big on me. The more I relistened to it, the more I realized it's a masterclass in lyricism. "Then he woke up" is a genius phrase to use the way it's used; the dream of "flying" on the unicorn, to then deciding to, well, soar in the air... it includes a bit of humor, it is morbid, it's emotional, it captures Martha's character and it works so well!

Katie Ladner absolutely crushed this song, she's an icon. She was also in the original off-broadway cast recording of Be More Chill (as Jenna Rowland), unfortunately she doesn't have a big song like this one but there are a few moments where she gets to flex (Rich Set A Fire & The Pitiful Children come to mind).

I've never really liked this song and usually skipped it when listening to the soundtrack, but then I had the opportunity to watch a local production of Heathers. I cried throughout this song because the guy who played Martha (they changed her gender) sang it with so much emotion, and my opinion of the song completely changed.

This song is stunning - but I usually skip it. Don't get me wrong, the voice is angelic and the lyrics are beautiful, but I get very easily grossed out. Not by things like s*x but the scab thing makes me vomit in my mouth. Otherwise, I love the song. ❤❤
