It is a tribute tour that pays respect to Vinnie and Dime in the process. Like both are sadly gone, what do you guys want ? I think that ZW can do a lot of really good covers on the guitar in honor of Dime. Both knew Vinnie and Dime more than we ever will. Both were robbed from playing Pantera music when Dime died. Vinnie wanted nothing more from Phil and then he passed away too. Honestly, Phil really deserves to get up on stage and play some Pantera on the mic again. I still stand by my statements in the video.** A quick note to the people losing their minds over my opinion. Here's the main point which is stated in the video: "If this is going to be a Pantera Tribute Tour with guest musicians then cool! Who wouldn’t want to see someone like Zakk Wylde shredding Pantera riffs with Phil and Rex in honour of their fallen brothers. But if it’s going to be marketed as a Pantera reunion tour then in my opinion it’s just disrespectful to Vinnie and Darrell." That was my knee jerk reaction as well. After seeing the video for Cemetery Gates when I was 11 I picked up Cowboys as soon as I had the opportunity. With the two bands that got me into the metal genre toning down their sound, Metallica and Megadeth, when I got Vulgar Display of Power I knew this was the band that knew what we wanted, and they got heavier with each album. So I've been a fan for a very very long time. The Abbot brothers were so integral to their sound I didn't want anyone trying to bring Pantera back to life. It's very hard to replace such icons as Dime and Vinnie. Alice in Chains did a great job, but they're the exception. When I heard who would man the guitar and who would man the drum kit I kinda changed my mind. Those are steallar choices. I asked myself what Diime and Vinnie would think about it, and I think they'd want fans to hear that music live again. I really do. You couldn't say that while either of them were alive but if there's anything resembling their souls anywhere and they somehow knew about this it would make them happy. Maybe I'm lying to myself but I was ready to condemn this move before they announced the new members.

So long as the singer in a band remains, the music is still there to be heard. I understand where he is coming from with it not really being a reunion tour, but at the same time it kind of will be. If Vinny and Darryl were there but someone other than Phil was singing, it would still feel wrong. At least if they fill in those 2 spots with class act musicians, with Phil singing, the songs will sound legit.

2:12 apples and oranges. Dave is the voice. Maybe they shouldn't call themselves Pantera. From what I hear they've had the gotten the blessing from the Abbott family or whoever controls that decision and that's all that really matters. I mean everybody wishes Vinny and Daryl could still be with us we probably would have had a reunion by now. But keepin' it 100% Dime was a fucking badass on guitar. Inspirational and innovative, but 1000's of guys no one's heard of can play Pantera songs, but not on stage without Phil's voice. Vinnie and Darrell had to stop being Pantera without Phil. That's whatever anyway dude if you want to be a Rock purist and pout, we don't want you there anyway. Raw

We all know this is not the legit actual band we know as Pantera, but peeps are not trying to hear and see this band due to a name, it’s the awesome music that Pantera made that has pull. Will it be as awesome as when Dine and Vinnie we’re touring in the 90s? Nope, but it will give something back for all of the older fans and will bring awareness to the band to the young folk who may not have heard about Pantera or never got to see Pantera play live. Just yesterday I was talking to a guy in his mid 20s about how awesome Pantera was and he had not heard about them. Dime would want as many people to be inspired by his music as possible. He was a true soul man, a friend of all humanity. His incredible Passion for music and guitar playing was deep and started at a young age. This is a tribute to Pantera, if the guys who are carrying the torch want to call it Pantera, so what, as long as the music is respected and badass shows are played, that’s more important.

People in media say always they didn't have attention or success before 1990. but its bullshit. Between 1983 and 1986, Pantera opened for Nazareth, Quiet Riot and more. They jammed with Metallica in 1985 and they played with Anthrax in 1986.. Warlock too in Clubs.. Pantera was packing 2000 plus people places in mid 80's and played in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma, they even did few gigs with Phil in L.A in 1987-1988. They were signed in 1986-1988 to the major Gold mountain records, from the Atlantic guys, but Atlantic guys ironically didn't want to release it because Power Metal was too heavy for them. But it beneficied still of the distribution In the underground. Dime was in 1986 already on some guitar magazine, i remember a numero with a cover where he was with James Hetfield . I have europeans as german or french and Japenese magazines where Metal Magic , Project in the jungle to Power metal were reviewed, as well than interview.. Pantera was seen as hope and had quite a good rank since 1983 all through the 80's to early 90's , reviews and interviews in british magazines.. Metal Forces ( they did the cover in 1986) , Kerrang. .. Dave Ellefson did hanging out with the band in 1988, that led to Mustaine calling Dime to audition to megadeth. Anthrax also did called Dime at that time. Metal church proposed to Phil to join replace David wayne ... Pantera was hanging out with Slayer in 1988-1989... For a so called unknown band without success its not that bad . Never understood why people keep the myth by dismissing the pre cfh stuff. By the way the Cfh stuff was from the 80's too and they did a first clip video of the title track in 1989... They were friends with Marc Ferrari from Keel since 1984. So be it.

The groove metal that the Abbott brother's gave us should be embraced and celebrated. 🤘🏻❤️🎸🥁❤️🤘🏻

It really sucks that Vinnie and Darrel are gone but if Dime hadn’t died in 2004 this reunion probably would have happened before the end of the decade (2010s). When Dime died something in Vinnie died too and Dime would have most likely always been open to making peace once Phil was clean and sober. If there’s anyone capable of playing Dime’s leads Zakk is probably the guy, if that’s not Pantera enough for anyone than they’re entitled to their own options

I completely agree. I will say,if at least one of the legendary founding brothers of this band that we all love was still with us and willing to do it as Pantera then that would be awesome but without their blessing,I guess, it doesn't seem right. With the way it is as I never got a chance to see Pantera live I'd just be happy to see Phil and the Illegals or even better Phil and Rex do a tribute thing. You can either pay $500-1000 to see “Pantera” or wait until Phil goes on tour and comes to your local club and then you can pay $20-30 for almost the same experience which is his iconic vocals and a really tight and well greased band. Exactly what I did when he came to a 300 cap venue in my city. Just close your eyes and it all works out.
