November 14, 1991 Michael Jackson’s 11 minute ‘Black Or White’ short-film premiered simultaneously in 27 countries to a record-breaking audience of 500 MILLION people, making it the most watched music video premiere in history to this day!

@@renatevanhaaften8059 I remember watching the premiere from Australia. The special effects that we all take for granted now, back then…there was just amazement and a sense of amazement, and “how did they do that?!”. You’ll never get that kind of feeling from a music video anymore, because we all know anything is possible with cgi, ai, and the like..

Michael Jackson releasing a new song/video was always an "event". You knew it was going to be long, you knew it was going to be expensive, you knew it was going to be #1 and you certainly knew it was going to be amazing :)

I remember we’d find out a week or two in advance, and we’d be sitting around they all watching the premiere of his newest video, because it was ALWAYS revolutionary.

Dudes, you gotta react to the original video? Where Mike is being Mike, dancing out on the street by himself. I tuned in for that over the rest of the video.

In the 80's his videos were world premieres i remember in high school everybody would be talking about the next day.. he is a beautiful man a innocent man. Love u Michael.

It took about 4 hours per person to change one face into another (back in those days). This was the most watched music video over the world at that time! There’s an other longer version where he at the end only dances a couple of minutes and gets angry about racism. It’s very nice to see that, so go watch it guys! I love your Michael Jackson reactions ❤

Saying he is doing little is missunderstanding this vid in a historic angle, no one was dancing at this time in videos. maybe madona some but generally it was a revelation. something new. this video is so big it was the most expensive ever done by this time. so no, this wasn´t small unfelt dancing, it was revolutionary. this video also shows the first time ever the new technollogy that allowd quick metamorphosis in picture. it was later fomously used in terminator 2 and the modeling of jurasic park. even having macoly culkin there was massive. you guys don´t realize what a star he was at the time. you speak relatively for today but for this time he´s dancing is out of this world.

Bill Bottrell Singer songwriter i the rap on the song I believe - they orig wanted LL Cool J or Heavy D, but did work out. Tyra was probably just starting to garner some recognition as a model, but not quite supermodel status yet.

I did the research. MacCaulay Culkin was about 11 years old in 1991 which is when this music video was released. In 1990 was when the first Home Alone was made and also when Culkin, at age 10, met MJ. Culkin was 9 or 10 during filming of Home Alone, google can't make up their damn mind.

I LOVE MJ- he is probably my top single artist of all time! Vincent Paterson co-choreographed this with Michael & is a really cool guy. He's one of the 2 lead dancers in Beat It (the white guy) & assistant choreographer and a zombie dancer in "Thriller". He co-directed and co-choreographed Jackson's Bad tour as well as co-choreographing Jackson music videos "Smooth Criminal", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Dirty Diana", "Speed Demon", plus live performances for the Super Bowl XXVII Halftime show, the Grammys, and the MTV 10th Anniversary. He also co-directed and co-choreographed the music video for Jackson's hit "Blood on the Dance Floor". Here's a really cool interview with him 0n KZbin as he talks about working with Michael on Black & White & how cool he was. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKucg6KCZcxoaas

That face transformation technology had not been seen much until Michael Jackson did it in this video. And that guy actor is from the show cheers. I still remember watching it and recording it live in tv back in the day because it was talked about it's premier world wide on what day and what time it would be airing. The end of the video got cut from tv after it had aired live because it was considered violent and sexual its where Michael Jackson is by himself dancing and bashing a car, later some channels let the whole video be aired again only for specials but most did not.

Why does ANYONE react to "shortened" versions?? There was a reason for the full length video. That "face changing" tech at the end? That was fucking unheard of when this video came out, we were astonished. These videos used to premiere on the FOX network after The Simpsons on Sunday night while we were all in front of the TV. No phones, no computers. Just TV and books. As it should be.
@robertbrescia31965 ай бұрын
The "face changing" tech was accomplished by using a software program called "Morph", which was released to the general public shortly thereafter. Ground breaking program considering the limitations of CPU speed and graphics capabilities of personal computers at that time. The morphing process was quite labor intensive and tedious, matching "dots" with one face to another. This effect was seen in the Godley and Creme video for their 1985 song "Cry" where they displayed a series of faces at the end of the video. The transition from one face to another was accomplished by fading down one face while simultaneous fading up the next one. When G & C looked at the finished video they were stunned to see that at the mid-point of the fades, a third face was created. All done with analogue film (nothing digital at that point on computers). I wonder sometime if the creators of "Morph" got the idea for the technology by watching the "Cry" video. Kevin Godley and Lol Creme were, of course, former members of 10 cc.

What l will say is MJ was 1 of the goats that is for sure this, particular song and video was in its day huge and technologically innovate for its time with the whole face merging effect. I will admit, his last years for me wasn't so much a fan of his songs l felt they were lacking that edge which well, we all now know towards the very end how an ill man he was especially for his age. But he deserves the legendary status alongside greats of Elvis etc. and this 1 was certainly 1 of his best.
