Sheena Easton had a long string of hits of her own in the 1980's including "Morning Train" "Modern Girl" "You Could Have Been With Me" "For Your Eyes Only" "Telefone" "Almost Over You" "So Far So Good" "Strut" "Do It For Love" & "Sugar Walls"! Prince sped up his voice and pitched it higher. He created an alter ego called Camille singing in this voice. He had a whole album done in this voice and was going to release it under the name Camille. But he shelved it. I believe that Jack White from The White Stripes bought the rights to the Camille album after Prince's death.

This is an incredible album - SIGN OF THE TIMES. This album came out in 1987 and was great. Sheila E was now a regular part of the percussion side of the band, which you see her in white. Sheena Easton is the woman singing with Prince. An amazing talent on her own. She and Prince had a short relationship at one point. She sang songs like - "Strut", "Morning Train", "For Your Eyes Only", "The Lover In Me" and the Prince written song, "Sugar Walls". As someone mentioned in the comments, Camille was a Prince alter ego who Prince was using on some songs but took a prominent role singing on this album. A great song that is all Camille is called - "Housequake". Prince loved to play around with different artistic styles and this album took on another new direction. A jam!

Prince used to come with alter ego for some of his recordings. In the case of ‘you got the look’,, princes, alter ego, was named Camille. There was supposed to be a Camille album (if I remember correctly). We all the songs on the album would be from the artist, Camille. But instead, the Camille album,, he turned it into “sign of the Times“. But within the sign of the times the album, there are a number of Camille songs. For an example: on the sign of the timed album, there is a song called,, “If I was your girlfriend “. Which is a Camille song. I’m sure these two twins are too young to know. But Prince was an extremely prolific musician and songwriter. During the late 70s through the 80s and 90s,, Prince produce literally hundreds of songs. The record company cannot keep up with princes album release demand. Prince would release an album. Then release singles from the album,, with excellent hit songs on the B side. It would seem that most people today cannot comprehend how amazing prince really was. His guitar playing, his songwriting, his bass playing, his drumming, his singing, his production, is unique fashion, and not to mention his outstanding live on stage performances,, that are legendary. There are a lot of great artist that we all love. But there is only one Prince💜

Pitch correction like Autotune didn’t exist until the early 2000’s, but pitch shifters have existed as long as digital audio. Meaning you hear them a lot in 80s music, albeit not typically on vocals. Another classic example is the guitar solo on Owner of a Lonely Heart. As others have pointed out, Prince used it to create a female alter ego, Camille. He recorded a full album with ”her” but ultimately scrapped it, and so some of those songs ended up on the Sign O The Times double album. In 2024 it does sound a little gimmicky, like he found a new toy to play with. But at the time it just sounded crazy and wonderful like everything Prince released in the 80s.

Irish singer, Sheena Easton hit with the very innocent Morning Train, followed by the Bond theme, For Your Eyes Only. What Prince did with her was transfiguration. It was around this time that she had an arc on Miami Vice - the hottest show on TV - and was just exponentially bigger. We'd had hints of what you hear in this song but, as was frequently the case with Prince, we'd never heard it before. You need to get out if your chair, out your headphones on and move to it. Twins, please get a taste of Prince's many personas. Prince often sang in falsetto and sped up his voice for his alternate personae. This song is part of a concert film. OMG! How do you not know that it's the famous Aussie singer Sheena Easton singing with him? She's had a long career of her own: before and after Prince. Look up 'Morning Train'. Prince wrote "Sugar Walls" for her, which helped shed her totally 'wholesome' image. "U Got the Look" is a dream. Notice, Prince is sleeping in his dressing room? I also think you should listen to it in the context of the album 'Sign O' The Times', on which it appeared. You may need a broader view of his music to understand.

No, voice alterations aren't weird to people like me who grew up in the 70s and 80s. Listen to Zapp featuring Roger, (popular in the 80s) who used a talk box, which has a tube that you put into your mouth, and the box is connected to electric keyboards or guitars to give the voice a very unique tone. They weren't the only ones to do it, either. Check out their songs - "Computer Love" "Heard It Through the Grapevine" (original by Marvin Gaye) "I Wanna Be Your Man" The lady singing with Prince is Scottish singer Sheena Easton. She started out with sweet innocent songs and looks, but change to more sexy songs and styles after connecting with Prince, Babyface, and Jam & Lewis. The female drummer is Sheila E., who has her own hits.

Camille was the female alter ego and naughty witch like character that Prince played on songs, recording himself singing slow and then speeding it up to normal tempo. Stevie Wonder did this and others from 70s funk and soul. Prince even tried to release an album called Camille, but the label rejected it, so he put some of the songs on his magnum opus, Sign O’ the Times. U Got the Look wasn’t technically a Camille song but she’s integrated in it. I can’t believe you guys didn’t like U Got the Look. Daffy. My first time really disagreeing with you but I’ve been a FAM for 40+ years and that song was a major hit in 1987 and the video won an award. It’s from the theatrically released narrative concert film that Prince directed titled after his album Sign O’ The Times. It’s widely considered one of the greatest concert films ever made. The film displayed all of Prince’s peerless talents as a performer, band leader, audience hypnotist, guitarist, bass, drums, keys and piano, vocals, dancer, choreographer, director, producer, composer, arranger, fashion designer and entertainer. All the videos from the Sign album were taken from the movie just like Purple Rain and Graffiti Bridge. The Kiss video however was NOT part of his Black and White directed movie Under the Cherry Moon, even though it was the number 1 Billboard charted single off that soundtrack. Prince directed 3 movies and most of his music videos. He apparently directed more movies but decided not to release them and they remain in his vault. Paisley Park wasn’t just his recording studio but also handled production on all his videos and several films. Graffiti Bridge is a terrible film in terms of the narrative but the musical performances by Prince and The Time are of course stellar as usual. Under the Cherry Moon is beautifully filmed and is charming with a great score of course. But it’s not a good movie in terms of the story. Prince is actually funny in this movie though. Purple Rain the Citizen Kane of Star vehicles.
