They're still dated, and in the case of many early Nintendo 64 games (e.g. Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time), they can be pretty ugly at times, but if you play the games at their native 240p resolution on a CRT TV, it's not nearly as noticeable. The biggest problem with the graphics is that most people these days play the game on TVs/monitors the game wasn't developed for - crisp crystal-clear digital LCDs instead of the often-somewhat-fuzzy/blurry CRTs - and/or emulating it at two, three, four, or more times its original resolution, which causes the low polygon count of the models and the low resolution of the games' textures to become much, much more obvious. :p

After collecting the last star in a level, you can just go out of bounds with the moonjump code and die, reducing the amounts of meta ground touches. Also, in HMC, you can go over the top of the map to reach the lake with dorrie and the star there.

You can grab bowser midair and touch a bomb, because normally mario drops the object he is currently holding, when he gets hurt... And you can exit a level by simply flying into the abyss, which should be no problem accept in bob, but you can still die from the bubbles the cannons shoot, but you still need to touch the ground to trigger the death animation

Ok so idea; you could easily save a bunch of “meta ground touches” if instead of taking one for the last star you get, you jumped into a bottomless pit after getting it. Video title implied there wouldn't be cheats involved. If you're going to cheat why not just warp him to the paintings and stars instantly? Why not just warp yourself to the credit screen. This isn't a challenge. This was a way to cash in on the trend without putting in any creative effort. Edit: Actually this takes no mechanical skill either, while other youtubers are putting in entire routes on how to get the lowest possible score, and lowest theoretical score, while putting in sweat inducing effort to find the lowest score of every level. @@Airblader The title is accurate lol. It's a question and the answer can be no. In fact, from the several smb challenge videos i've seen, that tends to be the case in most of them. And it was implied that there was going to be some exceptions and some cheating to even make it remotely possible because the game starts with an unskippable cutscene of mario jumping from a pipe and landing on the floor. If you didn't assume it, then that's your problem. And the point of the video is 1. See how the game would work with a new unintended mechanic and 2. Get around the things that seem impossible with difficult tricks, except for when there are no tricks to use and it's unavoidable to touch the ground. Even then, the cases in which this happens are pointed at clearly and he even says that it's fair to say that the challenge ends there.

Most of those challenges are about not doing something that you do actively, like collecting a star or pressing a button, here it's about avoiding something that you do passively from the start of the game, which makes it impossible without cheats or exceptions because you're doing from the moment you gain control from mario and you can't do anything before that.

Technicly, the start and end of levels are impossible, but the middle of levels are interesting. Of course, there's a lot of levels with just trees, or bridges, or the castles are just floors. However, specific levels make this challange imteresting. And I'm talking aboit without any moonjump. Try it with world 6-2.

13:41 You should be able to get down to Dorrie’s area by moon jumping over the wall on the right side of the bottomless pit room. Speedrunners do a triple jump off the box to get enough height but moon jumping would work too. This strat works because for some reason the developers didn’t put a ceiling in most parts of HMC. That said, the abandoned mine star would still be impossible because you have to touch the ground to activate the purple switch. Metal cap would be tricky but probably possible to get the 8 red coins.
