Is it Possible to Grab Every Shine in Bowser’s Fury While Permanently Crouching?

About two years ago we tried to beat Super Mario 3D World while permanently crouching, and the run actually ended up being a ton of fun. Naturally I thought it might be fun to try to see if it is possible to beat Bowser’s Fury while permanently crouching as well only to quickly find out. Yes, the game can be beaten like this indeed. It’s actually surprisingly simple.Thanks to the nonlinear nature of Bowser’s Fury it is incredibly easy to beat the game while permanently crouching.. We can simply route Bowser’s Fury in such a way that a run like this doesn’t provide any challenge at all. But what if we tried to beat Bowser’s Fury in a way that doesn’t allow us to cherry pick any shines. What if we tried to collect every single one of “bowser’s furies” 100 shines? Is it possible to collect every single shine in the Bowser’s Fury while permanently crouching?

I managed to get over Crisp Climb’s gap: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4jCnpumrtBrfqs (sorry about the poor quality, twitter compression is no fun) What I did was to first use the ground pound jump to get into a normal standing position. If you jump within a couple frames of hitting the ground, you won’t crouch. Then I used a trick called vectoring (the zigzag movement), which allows you to build up just enough speed to jump from one side to the other.

The Gap near the end of the video is most-likely possible, He got pretty close with bowser-jumping and it might be possible if you time it right and get a good cycle between the two rotating sets of platforms, as the one time he got a pretty good cycle he completely missed the 2nd set and missed Bow Jr.

I would put forward the argument that Propeller Hats aren't actually power-ups. Mario is never transformed, and in my opinion they are actually just fancy hats with cool capabilities.

I agree. The powerups are shown on the bottom left of the screen. Are propeller hats shown? No. Can you collect the propeller hats? No. Do they replace the powerup you are currently "wearing"? No. Can you get them by collecting 100 coins? No. So by pretty much all definitions I could think of right now, the propeller hats are not a power up.

I would agree with that completely, you can wear a prop hat with any powerup, it's more like carrying something than a powerup - carrying something also modifies your move set and I wouldn't call those powerups (just the prop hat improves maneuverability rather than detriments it).

The game clearly doesn't count them as power-ups, since Junior can't even carry any extras for you. Not to mention the rules for them are notably different in that you don't lose power-ups from going in the water. They're more of an environmental feature, like the giant ice skate. And I notice Ceave didn't even acknowledge the ice skate.

All things considered, the fact that its both easy to beat, and easy to collect them all with power ups when crouching, must make Fury an extremely easy game mode if you play normally. And then even still as hard as it was to do this, you still managed it all but for one area, hah :)

Ceave, I may have found a way to cross that gap at the end. Looygi Bros posted a video on how to climb the castle with no items! Go to the 1:00 mark in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnaseHVqZdKUaLc He shows off a hard method and an easier method. I’m not 100% sure if it’s possible while crouching but you do have the ability to run with a baseball. Let me know if this works out!

Also there are things known in the speedrun community known as super jumps you do with please where if you jump at the same moment you bonk into sth you like go super high with please and can dismount like super super high, this could definitely help with the colosseum cat shine and the oiling roller isle area and maybe some other places too

I still don't think the Propeller Helmet (or any other helmet/mask in this game) is a power-up for various reasons. 1. They are more of an object on top of Mario than a power-up. They can only be equipped from a single direction and they go on top of Mario without changing him himself. 2. They don't replace any power-ups that you already had equipped. 3. They don't transfer between levels 4. They can't me moved to the extra power-up storage whatsoever There are a few more reasons that I don't consider them power-ups but this list is good enough

Rule 2 states that you do not eat powerups with the exception of the giga bell, however if I'm not mistaken if you take the giga bell once to get into the bowser fight and then manage to keep it until the fight is over you get to stay as cat mario which may give you a way to use cat mario within the confines of these rules. That should at least allow for the three cat climb shines to be collected.
