When I was 16 or 17 I was out on a run (I ran cross country) about 2 miles from home when it started raining hard. I stopped underneath an overhang on a barn across from a house. With no let up in sight, I looked over at the house and saw the window on the porch open with a phone on a table right beside the window. I ran over and knocked on the door but got no answer so I reached inside the window, called my parents, and they came out and got me. That was 40 years ago and I still run by that house on occasion but the barn is long gone.

The only problem I see with the situation, is if someone happened to drive by, and accuse them of stealing the Jeep. Because at that moment in time, all you know for certain, is that they are recovering the Jeep. You don't actually know what their intentions are, and people lie alot. Also, if there is damage from the crash, you can get blamed for damage, for using " improper techniques ". I really hate the fact I'm being so pessimistic. But unfortunately, certain experiences in my life, have impacted my view on things.

I agree with you, I won't do anything in my area because someone will almost always try to point anything bad back at you, even when you didn't do anything. Its best to just keep yourself safe. Was wheeling with a group and we stopped to check out a cave when we were approached by some people on foot. They asked if we could help them get their Jeep out of the water. For reference, we were in an abandoned quarry. We come over to the spot and they are pointing to the flooded part of the quarry and shimmering in the water about 10' below the surface we can see the license plate. My jeep and another, both with winches and pullies managed to get the Jeep out of the water. We got word back a week later that the jeep was working just fine after swapping all fluids and running the motor without the the spark plugs. All that to say some of the older Jeeps are fairly robust in what they can handle.

Why is it that ten years seems so long ago? To feel this sort of I'd-never-get-away-with-it-today nostalgia, I have to hark back to the Eighties. From there, it gets better and better. In the Seventies, I could be three sheets to and still pass a field sobriety test.
