In the church I grew up in,(and due to me being a minor, still made to go to) a rumour was started about me from a PARENT, an adult, she was in 40’s, and she made a rumour about me being gay. I wasn’t invited to hang out at my friends houses anymore, my mum started giving me “talks”, they spoke more about the “worldly homosexuals” in church and youth group, I wasn’t allowed to be a kids church leader, parents warned girls my age, my friends, to never be alone with me. I was 12.

LITERALLY SAME… i never had those urges or super duper rarely near never and i always never understood the world from that point of view bc i dont feel that way i was like how are people struggling it’s literally so easy for me. Perhaps I should count it as a blessing. Then I was worried i would never be able to date because of it cause many people like are very oriented around you know that in a relationship but i knew someone for quite a few years and he’s okay with me being ace and not really wanting to do that stuff often. I’m truly so lucky in this case but sometimes i wonder well i know im different from lots of people maybe that’s the reason its so hard for me to find common ground or make friends with others.

? You know you can get into a relationship without temptation or without having an intercourse and yes it's hard because both of the genders can be deceiving doesn't mean you should just not love any of them because you don't want to get pregnant or get an STD cuz what do you expect to happen if you do end up having an intercourse with somebody that's why you need to be more careful on who you decide to be with but mostly people want to be single because of this society or just want to be single because they just want to but normally the reason why the Bible was talking about for men and women to be together was because if you're tempted to pleasure you might end up touching yourself uncontrollably and that's why he recommended some people to get into a relationship so they can control yourself but if you can control yourself even if you're single without touching yourself then yeah you can be by yourself just saying

And the religion I've been approached to says that there's no such thing as hell The only thing that happens if you don't obey him and his commandments is that you would just be asleep nothing painful or torturous it doesn't matter what type of person you are you will get the same fate you would just be asleep it would be peaceful but that's why in my religion it says that we were created to have free will and that's why some people will make either good or bad decisions you don't have to follow the religion at all The only thing that will happen is that you will be asleep cuz that is the only way for you to repent for your sin because if you are born in this world you are born a sinner but if you follow his commandments you can redeem yourself and have a chance but you don't have to follow his commandments and you shouldn't follow his commandments just because you don't want to be asleep people will make it sound like it's painful but it's not it's peaceful You're just going to be asleep and that's it

I feel like Christians across the board (traditional or progressive) lose sight of why we are Christian in the first place. When we are born again, we want live as the new creation we are, which should lead us to live lives that glorify God and not ourselves. When phrases like “my truth is that ______” come up, it seems to all center around the individual. “My truth” seeks affirmation for a preconceived understanding. I know people like to cater the Bible to how they feel the world should work (I have too), but isn’t that a flawed ideology, especially as a Christian? Proverbs 3:5 talks about “not leaning on your own understanding”, why? Because what we make of this world is flawed and we will certainly be enticed to start living in a way that doesn’t honor our Lord. We have a sin nature and will always be drawn to living in sinful ways, full stop. In the super self-centered culture that we live in today, modern Christians can start to ask “what can God bring to the table that I didn’t have before” or “how can believing in God benefit me” or “what pieces of the Bible affirm my old lifestyle, and what parts don’t, and the parts that don’t, how can they be read in a way that justifies the way I live so I don’t have to let go of my old life?” Don’t get me wrong, there are benefits that come with giving your life to Jesus. The Holy Spirit, a personal relationship with God, and most famously living in eternity with God. And we are called to enjoy and be grateful for and put our hope in all of these things. But the benefits of being saved DO NOT start with or revolve around us, or and they certainly don’t conform to what we think the benefits should be.

@@wilsonfisher5011 The 10 commandments were written in stone twice because of this. Being a gay Christian is difficult at times because it's so hard to find people who understand you. Speaking with other Christians is hard because you don't know whether they are going to hate you or not. Compare that to talking to other LGBTQ people where they don't hate me for it; obviously, it is just a lot of them don't understand. It's hard to find a place where I belong in the Christian community because there's so much hate towards people like me there. I wish I could go to a church and experience that, but it's hard to find inclusive churches.

I do agree that jubilee is going downhill, but I don’t believe Anthony's show is a good replacement for their middle ground videos. While I do appreciate a lot of the content Anthony puts out (I swear to God, if more people were as understanding and accepting as he is, humans would be the most peaceful species on the planet), all this show really does is create an echo chamber. Both jubilee and Anthony's shows are good concepts, but they're done with different purposes, and switching from watching a show that presents you with both sides of an argument to a show that just locks you up in an echo chamber is not a good idea.

@@paulinaskierska7605 I disagree that a 30 minute video can be considered an echo chamber. Echo chambers on social media become problematic when day in and day out, people are exposed only to one side of the story, one type of opinion. What Anthony is doing is providing people who are very rarely heard a chance to explain their opinions more thoroughly, with other experts on the topic to bounce off of, without getting shouted down by opposing opinions after about a minute of talking. The other side of the story is likely the majority opinion that everyone has already heard, whether they agree or not. I guess what I want to say is that this series is giving space for a more in depth conversation that is rarely heard, and the other side of the story is easily accessible - the whole point of the "assumptions" concept is that the other side is what many people have heard of or believed already. Not every video about controversial subjects has to be a debate.

It's interesting to see how sometimes people get called out for interpreting religion a certain way when technically we all sort of do that. It's not like there's a hive mind of people that feel exactly the same about anything. In a way, no matter how similar a person's spiritual beliefs may be to another's, no two people will ever believe in the same religion or the same diety- not even within Christianity. So at the end of the day we should just let each other be. And whatever happens after death will be our own personal business and then we can go from there

I grew up Catholic as well, but also left it. It's interesting, cause I've learned as I've grown up and talked to other people who also grew up in Catholicism in particular that pretty much every single parish had different opinions on the matter. One near where I grew up had LGBT+ masses (on days other than Sunday, obviously, because what happens on Sundays gets decided by the Vatican, so individual churches don't have much of a choice in what happens those days), another on the other side of town would spew hatred against LGBT+ people. I grew up in a church that was closer to the former, and it was a real shock in high school hearing someone use their Catholicism as reason to hate gay people. Cause that was not what I knew, and if my super-religious Catholic grandparents who went to church daily until their age caught up to them are of any indication, it wasn't what they knew either.
@alexmaksim
@alexmaksim 4 ай бұрын
I'm sorry to hear you've left however I'd like it if you just quickly read my story and possibly consider Christianity again after hearing it. I left Catholicism after growing in a catholic household and it has been the biggest tension between my mum and I since (about 6 months now). I left because of the way that Catholicism approached Christianity as a whole in the sense of focusing on the sacraments and honestly in my opinion forgetting the bible sometimes. I moved to an Anglican church with 2 of my school friends. My other option was a Baptist church with a lot more of my school friends but this time I picked my church because of the people and loads more opportunities to learn more and the feeling of being able to ask questions and not feel shamed. What I want to get out of this is try again please. And you may not find a church that can help you. You might get rejected just like with my mum but please keep trying to find a church that can answer your questions. In as little words as possible, you can be a gay Christian but God says we shouldn't have sex before marriage and marriage is between a man and a woman. These are non negotiable in Christianity. Thank you. And I'm sorry the church has hurt you but I'll be praying that you come back to Christ

@@Ellisonave Well, my opinion is that the people who are claiming the Bible did not prohibit homosexuality until 1946 and are claiming it was not a sin until 1946, are the ones editing the bible, most likely to fit THEIR political narrative. Do you think that people who read the Bible before 1946, didn’t interpret it as condemning homosexuality? That this was a belief that only started in 1946? The word homosexual was not in the original bible because it’s an English word. The word in question in Greek is “arsenokoitai” and it was translated to “homosexual” in 1946. The real question is whether the English word, homosexual, is an accurate translation of “arsenokoitai.” In recent years, people are claiming it means “boy molester.” Arsenokoitai is thought to have been made up by Paul, combining 2 words, “arsen” which translates to man and “koite” which translates to bed used in a sexual manner (our word coitus). So arenokoitai means men who bed other males. Nothing in the word itself or it’s context restricts the meaning to pedophilia. Furthermore, the 2 words Paul combined, appeared together in 2 Old Testament prohibitions against homosexual sex. So even if the word “homosexual” is a bad translation, or even if it never appeared in the bible, the behavior is still described and prohibited. Just read Leviticus 18:22 or Romans 1:27 Not to mention, homosexual sex is ruled out by the Bible’s consistent teaching on sex and marriage.

While I no longer identify as Christian, I was so lucky to be raised Episcopalian. Being gay was never an issue within my church, and as I've seen over the years in the Episcopalian church in general. I'm an athiest pansexual who's been raised in the Mormon church my entire life, so ive seen a great deal of how important religion and sexual orientation are to both sides of the spectrum. Many Christians, obviously, vilify, slander, and suppress queer people, and this is the stuff that drove me out of belief. Because of this treatment, many queer people, myself included, feel inclined to despise religion as a whole. I know the hypocrisy of the Mormon church and it drives me insane and has caused so many issues in my life, but i also know how meaningful and important people's religions are to them as most of my family is devout to the faith. We forget who the people behind the labels are and despise them only because of their label. At the end of the road, the only thing that matters is respecting people's beliefs. Everyone deserves to follow whats meaningful to them and their religion, sexuality, or gender orientation should never affect how you treat someone. I believe this very passionately and, though i don't believe, Christ's love and wisdom inspires me. TDLR: Just be excellent to each other.

Growing up Southern Baptist and, as I would much later realize, Asexual, I had no idea about it and just thought that I was just being an awesome christian because I didn't have the desire that everyone else seemed to struggle with, where they wanted to mash bits with another person. Deconverting really opened up a floodgate of self-discovery. Unfortunately it didn't happen for me until I was 31. This is why I advocate for much better sex education, including teaching about GRSM people because I don't want anyone else to have to spend half their life thinking that they're broken and pretending that they're someone they're not like I did.

I believe God loves everyone and it doesn’t matter who someone loves. God love anyone and everyone. I believe God loves every person no matter the sexuality, race, beliefs, gender(or lack of), and career. Because of growing up in a southern baptist conservative family, when I started questioning my sexuality lead me to question my religion also. Then I developed my own beliefs and own opinions apart from my family. I am still in the closet especially around family cause they have expressed how they would be mad and upset if I ever was gay and that they expect me to be marry a man. I am still questioning my sexuality and I feel I will never be accepted or loved in my family if I ever came out as any part of the lgbtq+.

My reasoning is that God hates all lust, and that includes straight lust. Your sexuality decides who you love, and the sex part comes second, and since God says it's good to love each other, there's no reason not to be both gay and Christian.
@teeeff8337
@teeeff8337 5 ай бұрын
Well, the reason would be that the Bible says it’s an abomination. And in the Old Testament the punishment is being put to death. You don’t have to agree that it’s a sin, but you should understand that Christian’s believe it’s a sin because the Bible so clearly says so
@ajs787

@@teeeff8337 That same book (Leviticus) also said in chapter 25 that you can own other human beings, so if we can throw out that one (for good reason), we can probably also throw out the one about hating gay people (assuming that's actually what the original text was trying to say, which is in itself a point of controversy).

@@ajs787 Don’t be silly, the Bible does not teach to hate gay people lol It says that homosexuality is a sin. There’s no throwing it out, it’s clear. You can’t change God’s word to fit your beliefs, He makes the rules. Altho, He gave you free will and you don’t have to follow them nor do you have to believe in Him. God created all men equally and desires all His people to be free. Back then, mosaic law required all slaves to be treated well and be set free after 7 years of service (unlike the slavery that happened down south). Slavery in biblical times was a form of employment. The Israelites would sell themselves as slaves when they couldn’t pay their debts or provide for their families. Definitely not saying slavery is or was ever ok, but Mosiac law was put in place to protect slaves from cruelty back then. Very different from the slavery that we are familiar with, that was based on race and where slaves were allowed to be terribly mistreated (understatement). Slavery is a result of sin and unfortunately, slavery hasn’t been “thrown out,” it is still very much practiced today in many parts of the world. When understanding the Bible as a whole, not only is slavery fundamentally wrong today, but it is forbidden. It’s an abomination. When understanding the Bible as a whole, homosexuality is a sin. God created women specifically for men. I’m not saying you have to agree with it, you’re free to completely oppose the Christian religion if you’d like. I’m just saying that it’s a belief in the Christian faith per the Bible and that belief is not going to change no matter how much we’d like it to.

@teeeff8337 I'm Christian, and I'm pretty sure 1946 wasn't the most diverse of times, which is why they changed the bible to fit their view points of their time. So nobody is changing the bible to fit their view point except you. Also, even if it was a sin, it doesn't matter when the old testaments prophecy has been fulfilled because Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, so cherry picking any sin outside of the 10 commandments as being "more wrong" makes no sense. The Old Testament considered cutting your hair, and and eating any animal with hooves wrong too, and there's no outrage about that. And speaking of context, any time homosexuality is mentioned in the bible, it's always in the context of another sin being performed, such as adultery, prostitution, lust, or it's a mistranslation of man shall not lay with boys/children. And while God does mention women being made for man, it's in the context of what a family does for one another, and of course the story of Adam and Eve. God makes it abundantly more clear in many other verses that love is good, and goes on to define it multiple times, but not once does he mention that gay love isn't real love, or that it's wrong. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

So nobody is changing the Bible to fit their view point except you” please make that make sense. Also, not sure when I cherry picked homosexuality as being more wrong, or why you quoted “more wrong” as if I used those words. I didn’t cherry pick anything, homosexuality is just the topic of this video and what is being discussed. There’s no “outrage” about eating animals with hooves because Christians today can eat any food they want because God has declared all food to be good in 1 Timothy 4:4-5 Do you think when God speaks about love He is speaking about romantic love? When God says love thy neighbor he is talking about everyone around you, not a romantic love. The Bible speaks clearly and plainly about the sin of homosexuality in the Old and New Testament. And no, when the Bible mentions homosexuality, it is not always in context of another sin being performed. It’s in context of “men who practice homosexuality” or “performing homosexual acts” or simply just being “homosexual” Romans 1:26-27 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 1 Timothy 1:8-11 It is definitely clear that homosexuality or “gay love” is wrong per the Bible. Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

I'm a Catholic and I just want to clarify your statement and say that in 1 Corinthians 6:9-20 it says: 9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 12"Everything is permissible for me"-but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"-but I will not be mastered by anything. 13"Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"-but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." 17But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

My response was “I don’t know if there’s a god out there but if there is, there’s no way he would make anyone feel attracted to the same gender then send them to hell for it” being gay isn’t a choice and why the fvck would a god make someone gay then punish them for it? Because same sex relationships defy the biological relationship between a man and woman that is capable of repopulation and continuing human life. Same sex relationships are built upon pride and lust, 2 deadly sins, and don’t serve a greater purpose apart from wanting a man’s head between your legs and vice versa. To the person who wrote the original comment, you are correct. We've actually found out through historical records and such that the current translation in the Bible is probably incorrect, and should instead be "man shall not sleep with boy", not "man shall not sleep with man". So, it was *most likely* originally condemning pedophilia. However, not everyone will believe that, which as sad as it makes me, is fine because I know everyone interacts with religion differently. I just tell those people we don't believe in the same God and that it's okay, because *my* God is Omnibenevolent, and that's what I choose to believe in. It sounds like you believe in the same thing (if you do believe), and in that case, yes, he does love us all, and he did create us to be just as we are.

The pastor in this video made a very, VERY faulty analogy there when comparing trans people to Jesus’s and Paul’s life. 1. Jesus did not transform. He is the same person, before he died and when he rose again. Like he was dead and now he’s alive, but thats the only transition. Absolutely nothing to do with changing gender 2. Paul transformed from killing Christians to being a Christian. There was a change in his life, but a spiritual change. Again does not connect to gender at all. I’m sure it can be reassuring, but her reasoning is faulty. It’s like me reassuring you that everyone in Gaza rn will live. It’s encouraging, but it’s false.
