Hello Jennies Garage! I rarely comment on anything, but decided I wanted to tell you all I support these videos and enjoy them just as much if not more than your previous. It is a great mix of information, personality, and just hanging out. As I grow older, I love hearing others opinions that I respect, and you are no different. So filling blank space, even though it was only 14 seconds of silence, with whatever comes across your mind is welcomed. Not filling that space is also welcomed. You have amassed an audience that doesn’t feed off of short form content and constant stimulation. So, leaving blank space is perfectly A-okay!

I was a police officer for 26 years and running a VIN or registration check was a courtesy that we'd do for local residents. After retiring ten years ago, I got back into off-road dirt bike riding again like when I was a teenager. Two years after retiring, l called two different friends from my department and wanted them to do a VIN check on a Honda XR650R that didn’t have any paperwork. Surprisingly, each guy was "afraid" to run a check on it since it wasn't part of an official investigation. (That’s a problem when guys can't make a simple decision that would be common sense that nothing was being done improperly). Anyway, l had my brother (who's a police officer in another state) run the VIN and it came back clean. Long story short, South Dakota DMV issued me a street legal title which is what my goal was.

Same deal here in MN bud. My sister works for the DMV here. I asked her to run a vin on a quad i got, she said they cant do it anymore.

@Nevir202 Yea it's really not that hard to get the same information though. Honestly I pretty sure most creators cover the plate numbers to protect their address from the fans etc who would show up uninvited to their home. Because the vast majority of people go for the easiest impulsive option and won't put in the extra effort into getting the info other ways. That and you really can't steal a vehicle with just the plate number but you could use the vin to claim it was stolen or use it to get a title for a different stolen vehicle that had it's vin swapped now your stuck trying to prove whose is real or fake.

So I’m in the uk and have often thought I should look up how vehicles with no paperwork works in the USA . Seem it’s different state by state from the comments and a massive pain to try to get sorted . Here it’s pretty simple and costs about $25. They check previous owner and make sure it’s not stolen and if no problems you get the logbook in your name . Also thanks for the fast update even if you was forced into the editors seat 👍

No sir, despite what some online sellers claim about "Out of the DMV system", Commiefornia "remembers" far longer than just 10 years. The greedy bastards won't let go of a PENNY. Also, I myself was given a motorcycle that had zero paperwork. It took me about three years, multiple visits to three different DMV offices (who all provided me different information), two different CHP stations, and over 300 dollars... but I did eventually get a clear Title to the bike. I did not have any info on the original owner, so I had to fill out a Form REG 227, and a Statement of Facts, explaining in a much detail as possible, how I came to be in possession of the bike. In your case, the whole acquisition has been well documented on video, so that works in your favor. But there's no way around the stupid fees, except selling to someone who lives in a Free state.

That DR has a lot of aftermarket goodies on it. Fork brace, White E series exhaust, looks like an upgraded upper triple clamp, Corbin seat, skid plate, bigger tank (even though it's ugly), ASV levers, foot pegs. Might be more that I am not seeing, but someone with a stock bike could use all those parts. Also DR350 parts are easy to sell on eBay. The TM33 pumper carb is worth $200 or so. Cylinder head is worth $300. Easy to make $1000 quickly, but you' will be stuck with a bunch of stuff that won't sell for a long time.

CA doesn't merely do things "wrong", we seem to do a lot of diligence in determining the best way to do things, and then we do it the exact OPPOSITE. I've literally had the DMV, the CHP, and Sacramento going around in circles with each other for three days, just trying to get an OHV sticker for a couple of Razor dirt bikes, to ride on BLM land. Sac says all off-highway vehicles require a sticker. DMV says no OHV sticker without a VIN verification. CHP says they can't verify the VIN of a vehicle that doesn't have one. CHP also explained to Sac that they consider it a "toy", not a motor vehicle. Sac responds that they don't have an Exemption for "toys". This idiot State is like a Laurel & Hardy routine. 🤦🏼♂️

Well... it seems that the DMV still has a long memory. Back in '77 I bought a used Hardly Startable from a guy getting a divorce. He didn't want the wife to get the bike so he was selling it. But he didn't have any current paperwork and what he did have was from a previous owners. But the price was right so I bought it... put some gas in it and jumped the battery. Two minutes later it fired up and I drove it home. Being in San Diego then.... going to the DMV was an all day ordeal. Seems that I couldn't just pay the penalty... NO>>>>> I had to contact all THREE of the previous owners and get SIGNED slips that they did indeed sell the bike and did NOT put a lien on it. If anyone said YES then I was screwed! Well I got lucky and ended up reselling it and made a tidy profit! Some times ya get lucky!

NCIB has a trap door, BEWARE! If a VIN comes back as stolen, the Feds trace the IP address, call the local police, who show up at your door. I bought a junk wrecked parts bike, and ran it thru NCIB as I did with every bike I ever bought, the bike got confiscated and I damned near went to jail. It doesn't matter who stole it, I sure didn't but you lose the bike immediately and if it's a total wreck (like the one I bought) it goes to police auction and you have to try and buy it again (which I didn't even try). Believe me, NCIB is NOT "there to help you". And even if you run it thru NCIB and don't buy the bike, you are gonna have the police at your door asking a WHOLE lot of questions!

You reduce the frequency of new video releases, and then you reduce the effort that goes into generating content by attempting to avoid editing altogether. Always, always, always run the VIN yourself. Since you’re in California you can check for a record or back fees on the CA DMV website. If it has a record it will show you the back fees. If it has a record and no title, run away! The fees can be SUBSTANTIAL and the process to get a title is difficult. If it’s “off record” you’ll get a “unable to determine registration fees, no matching record” message your gtg. You can then register after filling out a statement of facts (why it’s off record, where it’s been, how long etc you can BS this since it’s to the best of your knowledge) and provide a bill of sale if you have it without extra fees, easy peasy. If you ever get something like an “error cannot configure fees contact dmv” message, that is code for STOLEN.

After I gathered all the required paperwork and went to the BMV, I found out there was a loan owed on the car. I went to the loan company and explained the circumstances to the manager. They refused to release the lien on the title unless I would pay the loan off. And unfortunately the loan amount was for more than the car was worth at that time, so I pulled the motor and trans and anything else I could and junked the rest. Sucked, but I wasn’t paying off someone else’s loan for more than the car was worth, plus what I was already into it for.

Those accumulated fees are a joke, applying them to a new owner is pretty unfair when it was a former registered owner who was responsible for them! Here in the UK, about the only "fees" that a vehicle can carry over is debt if it was bought on finance & is sold on without paying off the owed debt, usually resulting in repossession of said vehicle, everything else like tax, insurance, MOT test fees etc., they're all on the previous keeper, even if the logbook (officially known as the V5c, basically the equivalent of your "title") is missing, if the VIN is clean, you can just get a new one and off you go, and previous owner issues are usually left with them...
