Really appreciate the channel. You and I have such similar taste in bikes. My SL8 is set up exactly the same, except I'm running 30mm schwalbe pro ones and dura ace which I would highly recommend. Dura ace is faster shifting, more reliable and esthetically far superior.

Tarmac (using Rapide cockpit and CLX wheels) is technically more Aero than the Venge ever was and is more stable/lighter. I do agree the Venge is sexy 😩

Only complaint with SRAM Red has been the 10t cog. Not nearly as efficent as an 11t. Don't know if you've noticed, but its not a true 2x12. You get 12 in the big ring and only 11 in the small.(The 35x10 is blocked due to clearance.)

Love my AXS and Di2 performs super well. Honestly the dream group would be mechanical SRAM red hydro brakes, but with new shifters that didn't look so ugly. Never needing to think about batteries being charged etc etc just simple to go ride.

Yes I'm in the same boat, The new RED has be wondering will it be worth it. I love my DA! I too am thinking of changing to shorter cranks, I like the SRM Look crank as I could adjust the length without the worry of selling cranks only to find I want them back. I like the DA 53/40 chainring, I'm pretty sure you could do a 53/36 with no issue........maybe a 34? LOL. I need the climbing ratios, but find I'm wishing for a 53 on the flats......I guess this is what happens when you live in mountains and flat terrain. Will be curious what you go with

What about relax and enjoy what you have.... find a very very good mechanic and ask for a precise tunning. If he can't make it, ask what needs to be changed. Get the precision set in your bike and just enjoy it.... I had an old bike with 7 speed (decades ago)... I know... but it was so, so precise, so perfect that I still miss this bike. I have a great bike, great Shimano groupset... my focus is get it to perfection tunning. And... enjoy... no stress.

@plain-bagel9 ай бұрын
What's the rationale for shorter cranks these days? When I was heavy into racing, riders were going long cranks for more torque on the climbs.
@MarkCox119 ай бұрын
@plain-bagel For me I was able to raise my seat by 10mm which resulted in a flatter, more aero profile. I was also able to open up my hips which meant I could put out better power for longer while in the drops or in the aero hoods position. If your hips are very flexible or you're already in a racy/flat position then there may be less of a benefit for you.

hearing about SRAM chaindrops before building my Aethos, I decided to go with new Force D2 levers and Force D2 front derailleur, RED rear derailleur max 36 with Force 10-36, lighter RED crankset 46/33 for steeper climbs, Rapide Cockpit, works perfectly, zero dropped chains, though I've always used chain catchers on road and mtb per racing experience, there have definitely been significant improvements in latest SRAM groups, can't wait to see new RED, another TDF win?

@@plain-bagel agreed - I’m in two bike clubs and we organize gravel races twice per month. I’d estimate that maybe 65% ish is SRAM and the rest GRX amongst the gravel racers. Shimano 52/36 with an 11-34 cassette, set it, forget it. Sounds like a lot of issues and compromises with SRAM road drivetrains...we know their chain is super slow, we know smaller gears are slower, chain drops, constant battery charging/swapping, hard pass on that noise.

Btw, 5000 str user here, however stuck on 25 mm because my cadex ultras are ‘optimised’ for that. Thx for the vid
@jesseladd68649 ай бұрын
Sounds like you want a 52/36 and 11/34 gearing from the 9100 series Dura Ace Di2 11 speed. Fully wired everything with no wireless levers and a proven ramp system that when set up wrong, shifts kinda flawless. Sounds like you want a deeper section wheel with wider internal that is tubeless and external nipples, center lock rotors and likely a dt Swiss HG style hub for ease of maintenance. Also sounds like the issues you’re finding with sram could be due to slight inconsistencies with set up between Chainring sizes? Just a thought as there shouldn’t be a difference due to size…. However, Sram is THE MOST difficult to set up as they created a new group around Shimanos existing patents. In close, I loved your explanation of everything, it was very straight forward and informative without bringing other brands down. Great video and subbed 🙏🏼
