i'm at exactly 11 months on my power stroke. i'm that guy that did not need a diesel, but G-Dangit I wanted it! This is my first diesel truck after 5 or so gassers and I absolutely love it. Do i ever work the engine like it's designed to, not really, but i can pull a fully loaded cargo trailer, or my 30 foot camper up the highway at highway speed and still pull double digit MPG vs the 5 I came from in the gasser.

USMC Motor Transport Officer, circa 1977-1997. I love diesel trucks and enjoyed them in the Marines. My 2018 Plati 6.7 brings me back to the good ole' USMC trucking days. And, yes, I just wanted it too. We do tow the 34' camper, so that really justifies it. Get some!

If you’re not working a truck hard get the gasser because the modern truck after treatment systems are a lot of maintenance, & need to get hot. Oil changes are more often, & get ready to spend big $. The gasser doesn’t have weird issues the Dsl does. No fuel gelling, & no turbo that’s expensive to replace.

Thanks for the thoughts. I’m shopping for a truck now. I have a crew cab long box Godzilla/4.30 gears with a cap covering all my tools. I tow a 14k dump with a wheel loader or logs a few times a week. I’m headed toward a F350 diesel dually with a service body. Also want to accommodate towing a 10k travel trailer- potentially 5th wheel in the future. Godzilla is good but inclines it screams. Took my last truck 6.2 gas out to Montana with the camper and can appreciate a turbo in the hills. You made a lot of good points. Each person has to evaluate many aspects for their individual situation.

Thanks for the comment. Appreciate you sharing your experience. It sounds like you work your truck hard. It seems like there really is no substitute for a diesel when it comes to towing heavy in the hills.

Agree with the sentiment. The f-250 shouldn’t even have a diesel option. The Powerstroke engine weighs so much it takes more away from the already lower payload capacity of the 250. 350 (SRW or DRW) or higher should have the diesel, IMO. I would correct you though that the f-450 does not have a higher payload than an f-350. 450 technically weighs more than the same equipped 350 and they both have a 14k GVWR (drw). This results in a less payload for the 450.

Depends on what your doing with the truck. If your pulling heavy on road constantly get a diesel. If your towing a couple times a week 15,000 or less doing off road or idling alot get the gas. Gas is more reliable and durable these days that said get what makes you warm and fuzzy either one will pull much better than the trucks from 15 or 20 years ago and they did just fine. Towing isn't a race that's why all the heavy 550s and 650s are detuned and have the least amount of power. Any modern truck has plenty of power.

Gas engines in 3/4 ton and up vehicles are always gutless when pulling idc if it has a snazzy name like “godzilla”

Living in Colorado & going into the mountains, I wish my E350 was diesel so it could cook the hills 🙌 but the gasser is cheap & easy to fix
