I know that this video is a bit dated. In 2024, you really can't get a new 107 Harley. I have an Ultra Limited 114 and a Heritage 114. Both have Stage 2 Torque cams. The acceleration from a stop is crazy. My Heritage 114, especially, throws me into the back rest when I do a hard acceleration. I recently traded a Road Glide 114 (also with a Torque cam). A couple months ago, my wife and I were on the Road Glide. A Mustang GT pulled up next to me and guns his engine. I gunned mine. The light changed and as we raced away, I watched the GT in my rear view mirror. At the end of the street, we pulled off and chatted. He was amazed that I'd skunked him in the quarter mile. and was extra impressed that I'd done it when my wife on back! He wudda killed me, if we'd raced farther (especially when my torque limited capped my speed at ~110), but he couldn't touch my torque and thrust/weight in the quarter mile. The 114 is a really nice engine and it packs a lot of punch. A friend of mine has a 107 Heritage. if we're group riding and do a quick acceleration, he can't keep up. There is a noticeable difference between the 107 and 114 M8s. Does anyone 'need' a 114, or a 117, or a 121, or a 131? Of course not. But, if you enjoy the power and acceleration (either for fun, or to get you out of a jam), larger displacement is the way to go. Will I upgrade either of my Stage II 114s to a Stage III or IV. Very doubtful. But, that doesn't mean that I haven't thought hard about it.

A properly tuned stage 1 107 is all anyone needs. Pulls hard enough to pull you off the seat. So much so that Im considering buying a backrest or step up seat. Street Bob 107 owner. 150 lb. rider. High flow intake, 2 into 1 V&H exhaust, FP3 tuner, custom map, autotuned and tweaks. If I weighed 175lb plus, would consider stage 2 or above. Not necessary for my riding style and weight. Can outpace my friends twin cams and keep up with an Indian Scout. Far more comfortable than a Scout and sounds 1000 times better.

When I took it in for a 10,000 mi service I test rode the 2018 107 M8 Road glide could totally feel the difference. upgraded to 114 sump failure at 13,000. H D made it right after 3 months, so in the mean time I purchased the 2019 114 M8 Road Glide ultra upgraded to 117 blew that up at 13,000. HD made it right after 3 months. When I got it back after the rebuild I really liked the power because I didn't have to rev or pop the cluch just roll the throttle and I could burn out or wheelie no problem not to mention that it really came to life at 100 mph. Just traded in for a 2021 M8 Road Glide special snake venom and putting a stage 4 in it, just waiting for CA emissions on the tuner. The moral of the story is yes the 114 in a very different beast. That's my story and im sticking to it.

Another thing to think about.. is if you are like a lot of people buying Harleys, your likely going to change exhaust, tune, heavy breather …. If you think you want a 114 but the 107 suits your aesthetic vibe.. then your going to get more power on the 107… after you make the change. So it won’t be that far off from the 114

Everyone in the comments talking about how a stage 2 or 3 107 being faster than a stock 114 is a moot point. None of them are really that fast until you put cams, big bore and headwork. Obviously along with the stage 1 parts to go with it. I had a fully built 110 that was dynoed at 117hp/118tq on a CVO superglide years ago and it ripped but was it "fast" by some standards not really once you have been on a 175hp+ bike that weighs just over 400lbs. Recently I had the opportunity to go back to back on a stock 114 (2020) road glide special vs stock 107 (2021) road glide standard 500+ miles each. The 114's torque difference is noticeable when rolling on throttle (passing for instance). I think the 114 "feels" a bit more effortless when underway and also from a standing start. If you are going to buy a Stock big Harley touring model and keep it that way - either one will do the job, with the 114 having a slightly muscular edge. But let's face it - Harley wants it's owners to invest in Harley performance parts to unlock the potential of both engines which have been hobbled by a combination of emissions and noise regulations - along with lower octane and engineered/"cleaner" pump fuel. For the several thousands of dollars and labor required to significantly increase base level torque and horsepower on both bikes - I think the budget minded rider may want to consider a Stage 3 - 107 as a better value. At some point Harley will succumb to the inevitable and offer its touring models with liquid cooled v-twins producing much higher power and torque in stock form. Heresy to us traditionalists but inevitable nonetheless. My guess is we will see air cooled displacement increases first on Stock models. 114 to 117 or greater on "specials" and 114 becoming the "standard" on touring models. Possibly larger stock displacement on CVO models.

You’re last paragraph has been the practice for decades, I’m sure they’ll continue that practice.
I had an 18 Fat Boy 114 and didn't like the engine. Seemed to pull nice, but lots of vibration, seemed like the motor mounts were loose, but they weren't. I later replaced it with a 2019 107 Road King and I LOVE the 107 way more than the 114. So smooth. Seems like the perfect engine to me. Numbers are not much different. Theyre Harleys, yes the M8 performs significantly better than the twin cam... but the difference between a 107 and 114 is not very noticeable. I just traded my 21FXLRS for a 23 Road Glide. Given that I had a 2-1 on my FXLRS and it weighs about 200-250lbs less compared to a stock 107 Road Glide i found a bit of a difference. Already ordered a high flow cleaner and 2-1 for the Road Glide. In the end, the difference will be a bit noticeable (mostly due to weight) but not drastic. Some people just have a real hard on over the displacement. If youre worried about performance that much, I suggest another brand. 🤷♂️

@TheTwoWheeledTeacher3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you right. Honesty I had the idea sort of last second and had ridden a couple 107s that day and did the 114 half. I have plans for a proper head to head to replace this video. Thanks for the honesty

You want power torque go for Indian or victory also they have good brakes factory stock and handle excellent 👍

I love how you started the honest ride and review with being honest about not being in the right place to do it. Read the specs people. Its a far superior comparison than this . .

You’re easily impressed. I found a difference but hardly a big one. Bought the 107.

Most say they don't even feel or sound like a true Harley. More like a Honda. Harleys are more V twin!
@freebehindbars86542 жыл бұрын
There’s not that much difference. Believe your exaggerating a little. Tune a stage 1 107 and it pulls harder than a stock 114.
@romanharrell3562 Жыл бұрын
What if you tune the 114?
@freebehindbars8654 Жыл бұрын
@@romanharrell3562 You gain that little back. Only a small displacement difference, nothing more.

I went from a softail slim with a 107 to a street glide special with the 114. I definitely feel the difference. The 114 is smoother over all when cruising and does not jerk when riding slower in 1 st gear.
@joshrandal69822 жыл бұрын
What amazes me to this day is that Harley still uses single front discs. Honda cruisers? Yes single state of the art front disc and about 200lbs less weight. I’m looking at a new Harley, my second one. I’m old now and need something slow and with nice pipes. I’m not going to go fast in the canyons anymore just slo and loud that’s how I roll.

Just curious…. I have a 2017 road glide ultra and the specs via the VIN say I have the 107 Milwaukee eight. You said early in the video that it debuted in 2018??? What am I missing???

Dude, great information, Well informed. unfortunately your camera work needs help. If your going to wear the camera on your helmet you should move your head more slowly, all the quick side to side movements and quickly looking down is just painful to watch. Maybe you should wear a chest harness for the camera. I only made it 7 minutes in before my head hurt too much from all the sudden movements. Have a great day.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely think about that on the next one.

M8 is a dog on the low end. my buddy's 107 smoked it from the start but not on the long end. the dyna lowrider s 110 twin cam smokes the 114

Without a biased Harley dealer opinion. After break in period, hands down wouldn't get a 107. My buddy had a 107, great until he wanted more. 107, to 124. I rode and helped with the build. My opinion as a mechanic prior (still just not for civilians anymore 🤣) out the gate not really, down the line depends what you want in a engine. It is all meaningless because it's all personal preference. The torque, noticeable, the horsepower, noticeable down the line. Too much to really go into on a KZbin video

I'm currently on a FLSS with the screamin 110. I went and test rode both a 107 and 114 in a road king. I'll try to keep this as short as possible. The 107 out of the dig is awesome. Great get up and go. The 114 out of the dig is good, but not as good as the 107. Now with that said, when you roll into that thing in 3rd and 4th gear, it takes off like a rocket. The 114 is going to be a great highway bike. No need to downshift for passing. The 107 would be a great "bar hopper". I am stuck with the decision right now as I am about to buy a bagger. I've been looking at the specials (114), but have really thought about doing an electra glide standard as it gives me almost 10 grand to do what I want to to the bike. Even something like a T-Man stage 2. A 2 into 1 with cams, breather and tune could have that 107 flying like a fighter jet down the road.

I tested a Fatboy. Hated it. With the foot boards the lean angle was terrible. I have a 2018 Fatbob 114. Far better bike that you can actually carve some twisties on. The Fatboy is just boring compared to the Fatbob.

6:15 My ex girlfriend’s uncle had a fat boy with different rims and a front fairing. It kept throwing me off cuz I never got close enough to know exactly what it was but he pulled up one day and I was like, “is that a fat boy?” Idk it’s weird cuz it was the gas tank that made me think it was a fat boy

I don’t keep my motors stock. Probably would do a screaming eagle kit so getting the 114 would be dumb for someone like me. Also I’d rather have the chrome over the black so there’s that.

For real? 107 then 114 then 117, 124 and 131? Stick to whatever you have. Bigger is always better, only for HD, not for your pocket. This stuff is for posers. If you ride it for you and not to impress others, even an 88 is awesome. Go ride and forget about the numbers. Besides, it all ends with a Japanese 650 leaving a 131 on the dust! Its all about the ride. So just go ride! This is were a Harley really shines!
