Is Jesus the "NAME" of God?

John 17:6, "I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world." This is name theology. This doesn't mean that Jesus says; "look, when I showed up, I taught everybody what God's name was." They already knew that. They have a Hebrew Bible. Yahweh is in there a couple thousand times. He's not just whispering "Yahweh" over them. What is he talking about? He's talking about something John says elsewhere in his gospel, "he that has seen me has seen the Father." Jesus was the embodied name. Check it out!

He died in February but was still doing shorts on KZbin until a few weeks before he died. His goal was to get out to people what the bible said. Scholars knew this and as a scholar, he felt that common people should know what only the elite biblical scholars knew. I only wish he could have been with us longer.

You CAN come to the Lord Jesus Christ via intellectual study, it DOES help, it helped me, and Dr. Heiser's teachings are a great resource, but in the end -- you have to take a leap of faith, because knowledge of God is not the same thing as faith in God, and having faith in Jesus is the way God SAVES us. If you left from lack of understanding, rather than seeking a full understanding, then seek Him while He may yet be found. Jesus said; come, let us reason together. He understands that we are weak in body, mind, and faith, but if you ask, He will help strengthen your faith. Come home my friend. 🙏✝️🙏

@@frankkhethanidubedube919 Hello Frank. I cannot read Hebrew, but I bet you can't either. I was not quoting Paul, but Peter (Acts 4:12). And Paul never quoted any Hebrew text that scholars can prove, but the Septuagint (abbreviation LXX, Greek version of the Old Testament made in Alexandria in the intertestamental period). Since no Septuagint ancient enough survives for scholars to study, it is presumed by many to be the version quoted in the New Testament, even by Jesus (though with a few exceptions), Others point to an older Greek text that has been lost. Thank you, Dr Heiser, for this delineation of the biblical references showing that Jesus is God. I've spoken to a few Jehovah's Witnesses when they've called by phone or stopped by the front door on their "witnessing" adventures. The most recent was via a phone call. At first, I was irritated that someone was calling me on the phone, wasting my time with their propaganda (almost like some political folks) trying hard to get me to change my mind. Then I apologized to the woman and asked her what it was she wanted to say to me. Following her spiel, she asked if I understood what she was saying. I told her yes, I did understand her position, but did not agree with it because it was not biblical. In response I grabbed my bible and spoke at length (40-60 minutes?) to her about all the biblical references of Jesus being Son of Man as well as Son of God, and how the Jewish people recognized he was saying he WAS God, and how much they wanted to kill him, punish him, lash out at him for making such a claim. This example is one I did not bring up, but it is SO CLEAR! At the end of our conversation, she just dug in her heals and outright said she just didn't believe the bible says what the bible is actually saying - that Jesus is God. She said everyone at her church and from her teachings doesn't agree with that. At the end of the convo, I left off with commenting that God gives us free rein to make our own choice as to what we chose to believe and choose to do. He gives us free will. God allows us to reject Him and call Him a liar, but that doesn't really change the outcome. I told her I was sorry she was making the choice she was, but sadly, she was free to do so. What can one say?

Yet she listened to you. The JW's typically don't listen to any other religious views as they are forbidden. Remember that the Lord said "my Word will not return unto me void". Keep that lady in prayer, fight for her soul. It's not about you or her agreeing or disagreeing with you, it's a spiritual skirmish and you have access to a very nice set of armor.

I always like to point out John 20 vs 28 to the JWs. Their New World Translation bible grossly mistranslates "In the beginning". Thomas tells Jesus, "my Lord and my God" calling Jesus "my God."

But Abraham refers to a place in Genesis chapter 22 as Jehovahjireh meaning God will see to it. So what was God really implying that they have not known him as Jehovah when Abraham clearly knew this name? Cause I would sure like to know if you got an answer for that. But to get to the simple point in Isaiah 42 verse 8 God says I am the Lord , that is my name but only says that in reference to what's written in the verse above verse 8. In Zechariah 12:10 God says that they will pierce me but will look upon him (another body) and mourn as one mourns for an only begotten son. In Acts 20 I think it is , it says that the Holy Spirit has made you overseers of the church of God which He has purchased by His own blood. Meaning the Holy Spirit/God has blood. And Isaiah 60:16 says "They will certainly have to know that I am the LORD your Savior, and the powerful one of Jacob is your redeemer. Jesus is the powerful one of Jacob because Luke 1:32,33 says he is as does Isaiah 10:21. Soooooo if Jesus is the powerful one of Jacob and our redeemer, then who is the other person that's our Savior???? Oh, and Jude 25 says the same thing that Isaiah 60:16 dies too. The big secret is our human awareness and consciousness is God. Call it what you will. God is impersonal and omnipresent in everything from the smallest particle to largest galaxy. Son of Man is one of my favorite titles for Jesus. It encapsulates the idea that God manifest Himself in the form of a man, seed of a woman. Alpha and Omega is my other favorite.

Son of man is actually shortened, it originally comes from Enoch, who while at the throne of God he asked the angel who brought him there , who the man standing next to God was and the angel said that he was the son of man who hath righteousness. But yes alpha and Omega means the first and the last, as he was the first creation of God, "let there be light" was his date of birth, and not only will he be the last to come at the end , Jesus is the end goal humanity is intended to once again reach as well

@@willtherealrustyschacklefo3812 My understanding is that Jesus was not a created thing (the light), or like the other heavenly beings created when the reference to "God made the stars (hosts of heaven?) also" comes up in Genesis. In order to BE GOD, Jesus would have existed eternally with God - as in forever in pre-creation, pre-history. The bible says Jesus is the WORD and was there actively involved in creation. When God spoke, pre-incarnate Jesus acted/created. Jesus came from the Father (the WORD emanated from the Father) and is ONE with the Father, as in the idea that God's WORD, what He speaks is such a manifestation of Him that if does not return to Him void (without accomplishing that which He sets out to do. They are one and the same. As far as the light at the first day of creation, God IS Light, Jesus IS Light. Heaven is filled with Light because God is there. The light was a consequence of a manifestation of God speaking and the WORD living and active in that creation moment. Even the division/separating of light and darkness (where God is vs. where God is not? Good vs Evil?) and calling it the first day (a segment of time, the creation of time in an environment where God is that is eternal, and He sees the end from the beginning because there is only the NOW vs linear time?) So many questions (and even more arise in my mind) from just those first few words in Genesis.

For people so obsessed with capital letters and all things "Hebrew" you would think they would understand the Tetragrammaton YHWH/YHVW and why it's used, and how YaHWeH, YaHVaH, Yahuah, etc are permutations adding vowels for phonetical pronunciation, that was used as a language device originally, where the Hebrews would say Adonnai instead, which means lord, which is where the tradition came from, and was done in the Septuagint to Greek as lord or Kyrios...same for Iesous, which was in the Septuagint and the oringinal Greek new testemant, as you mentioned, but nah..... why bother properly studying the scripture, the history, or the actual culture of the people who wrote them... because typing in all caps and condemning others, and making up your own version of reality somehow makes you more righteous than other people in their minds.

Dr. Golan Broshi described it very well that Christianity is actually the more legit 'continuation' of the Biblical Judaism than the Rabbinic Judaism is, including considering the fact that the Talmud and Misna are written MUCH LATER than the NT books. The notion of “Name” also means “Identity”. In the name of - in or with the identity of Jesus - the human display of the character of God. Name is also used to indicate authority - by order the king, in the name of the king, etc.

However, as recorded in Matthew, regarding the conception announcement to Joseph by the angel: “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1:21‬ ‭NIV‬‬ There is a textual note in that scripture which says: “1:21 Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means ‘the Lord saves’”. In Hebrew, “Yeshua”. What you provided is immediately after that in scripture, so both meanings. Point is that names were a descriptive of the identity of a person. God in human form with us, to save.

God the Father - Yahuah (“I am who I say that I am.”) God the Son - Yahusha Ha’Mashiach (“Yah saves.” “The Messiah.”) God the Holy Spirit (Ruach Ha’Kodesh) (“The Holy Spirit”). They are unique as we can see of the relationship between the Father and Son and yet they are one God. Jesus is the Word of God, all things were created through Him. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. God the Father is God. So, are they two powers with the same spirit? I would say yes and no. I’d say it’s two parts of the same power with the same spirit, also with the same power. That is my understanding of it. I think Jesus calls us His body partially to explain His own relationship with the Father. They are separate and yet they are one being. It even says in the Word that the Father is the head of the Son and the Son is the head of man and man is the head of woman. A head and a body are separate parts but make one person. Anyway, I don’t think we can completely understand it at a human level. And I think that’s alright. If God were so easy to figure out He wouldn’t be God.

Who we are ? Body, soul and spirit. The Unbelievers have no spirit. Adam and Eve were made in the image of God, we are made in the image of Adam (in general the unbelievers who lack God’s spirit). God must have then body, soul and spirit, and that’s why God is : God the Father (mind, soul), Holy Spirit (His spirit) and Jesus Christ (His body). And the Bible specifically states in the first chapter of John that everything was created by God (Father) through the Word (Son). It specifies they are individuals and yet both God. So, yes and no. The great thing is that religions still do this, from JDs and Mormons to Muslims and Hindus, they will reject their own theology under the assault of Christian understanding brought to bear in apologetics. I don't know Hebrew but I see you two are referring to the Tetragrammaton - YHWH. A video I've viewed twice over the years features an excited young rabbi who has researched and confirmed that the "Name" is "Yehovah." I come from the tradition (dangerous word) of reading the King James Bible ( it didn't belong to King James: he just commissioned an English translation). "Jehovah" is used there. In high school, I was introduced to "Yahweh," as the Name given to Moses at the Burning Bush. In recent days, I have seen "Yahuah" given by commenters as the Divine Name. All these versions, does it matter? To me it does matter; however, beyond the pronunciation it matters to me what the Name means. God chose very carefully what Name to share with us, and His name has fascinated me for decades. I've learned it goes beyond "I AM THAT I AM." That's powerful enough as it is. But I went to the Jerusalem Bible at the library years ago and found another translation is "I WILL BE WHO I WILL BE." Word-play, right? I don't think so. It fits with what my pastor said: "Love is always a choice." "I WILL BE" suggests God's power and sovereignty even more. I don't want to say "I AM" is passive, but "I WILL BE" evokes someone who is truly "large and in charge." I don't consider myself a Bible scholar - I just love the Lord. But I have been lazy - and that ain't good. I thank you for the comments and if anyone wants to spur me with a reply, I will follow up on it. Thanks again.

@@cedricgist7614 Yes, there is plenty of manuscript evidence from ancient Hebrew manuscripts that Gods name is YeHoVaH with His name being written with all the vowel sounds. There is also written evidence in the Hebrew Gospels (which are authentic) of the name YeHoVaH with all the vowel sounds. There is evidence from various Rabbinic records, from old letters and books, that the name was known to Rabbis as YeHoVaH, just not publicly pronounced. Also from the Hebrew manuscripts of the gospels and in the Hebrew Scriptures we have the name Yeshua recorded for us. I am not aware of any ancient manuscript evidence for Yahweh. Some people use YaHoVaH, based on an English understanding of the poetic shortened version of the name - YaH being used at the start of the name, BUT my understanding is that the shortening is not meant to indicate the first part of the name, it is a contraction of the first letter Y and the last two letters, aH making YaH. I believe the use of Yahshua is also related in some way to this reasoning about using Gods name YaH in the Messiahs name. Some say YaHuWaH changing the Vav to a Waw, as far as I know pronouncing the Vav as a Waw is from an Arabic/ Hebrew dialect, so not an error exactly, but definitely a difference in the chosen dialect. Also there are those who say YaHuWaH (or something like that) which I believe is based on their understanding of Paleo-Hebrew and a mistrust of ALL the written Hebrew manuscripts. These people also usually say Yahshua not Yeshua. From the Psalms I know for a fact that God is not a sacred namer, so He is not judging us by the spelling and the pronunciation of the name we use, IF that is the one we genuinely believe is His name, so I do not correct others on their chosen pronunciation. I also do not get offended at those who use the name Jesus although I do not personally use that name anymore unless talking to Christians, or to people who would not have any idea who Yeshua is. Personally I cannot understand why people would persist with a name they know He was never called, but the name Jesus itself does not have any sinister origins as some say. Jesus is just a transliteration from Yeshua(Hebrew) to Iesous (Latin) to Jesus (Greek). So even if you pronounce the NAME differently to me I still believe it is good to hear Him being referred to by name instead of just using the generic titles of God and Lord that could be applied to any false deity. I am not saying we should not use God or Lord, obviously these titles are used often in the Scriptures too, but so is Gods NAME or at least it is in the Hebrew, it has been hidden nearly 7000times in most English bibles behind the capital letter version LORD and GOD. We are meant to USE HIS NAME, to make mention of it, not bring it to nothing by never using it. Psa 44:20 If we had forgotten the name of our God, Or stretched out our hands to a foreign god, Psa 44:21 Would not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.

The NAME is Yahweh. To reject the Trinity is to reject community within the Godhead. This is done by assuming that Jesus is the Father and the the Holy Spirit in different rolls. In I Corinthians 15, Paul was explaining that the first man was Adam who God created in the garden. He sinned and because of it all creation were made sinners. All people inherited that from him. The second man was Jesus and because of Him many are made righteous by virtue of his righteousness being imputed to them because they choose to follow him in faith. To me that is glorious because I could never attain to being made righteous any other way except that Christ’s righteousness is now imputed to me.

Also something interesting about what Jesus says to Caiaphas. He talks about the right hand and not the left hand. In middle eastern culture, the right hand is a place of Justice and justification and even blessing. So, in a subtle way, when Jesus says that they would see Him on the right hand of God and coming in the clouds of heaven, it's as if Jesus was also saying, "all of the things I have said about Myself, God Himself will confirm them and make sure that you all see it".

To be accurate, it is not “Jesus,” which is transliterated through multiple languages to arrive to us, it is Yeshua, which is a direct transliteration from the Hebrew. Yehudim (Jews), that is people who understand Hebrew don’t recognize “Jesus” as anything except what those who have persecuted them for 17 centuries call some guy in “their Bible.” Refer to Him accurately, as Yeshua, and you pique their curiosity. The word yeshua means salvation, and literally, Yah saves. This difference means everything. Can we please start using the original Hebrew or at least transliterations from Hebrew to English. This is what will make the members of the tribe of Yehudah jealous. Dr. Heiser is on the right track, but as long as he hangs on to his Roman-based seminarian roots, he will miss the final connection between Grace Faith and Obedience (to Torah). It is not the “old testament;” it is Scripture. First, a testament is part of a will for a dead person. A covenant is an unchanging contract, at least until one party violates its terms. The keeper may offer it again in which case it would be new, to the one who did not keep it before (humanity). These terms are important. They mean something, so it is critical we refer to them properly. When we rename them, we may dilute one and overemphasize another, when, in fact, they are the exact same message. God told mankind His Instructions how to live. When we disobeyed, He wrote them down, so we would always know. When we disobeyed His Instructions in writing (Torah), He came to be an example of how to live by His Instructions. It seems we still cannot live by His Instructions, which He already knew. So, He also sacrificed Himself to be a final atonement for our inability to live by His Instructions. This enabled us to be “clean” in order to receive His Spirit who enables us to live by His Instructions, which are not difficult or burdensome. Amazingly, men have yet again, via a Roman-corrupted institution called “the church,” found a way to set aside His Instructions, and have done away with His Instructions (Torah) under the guise that since He has forgiven sins, we no longer need His Instructions. Only men, men who think they are trained in “God,” could justify doing away with Truth (Torah, His Instructions). This is called religion. Can we please start acknowledging our faith in Yeshua is Hebrew and remove the Greek/Roman filter which has corrupted our faith?! Elohim, YHVH, Yeshua, The Word, Torah is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Torah is Truth, and Truth never changes. There is righteousness and there is sin. Righteousness is obedience to Torah (His Instruction) while sin is Torah-lessness. The covenant with YHVH is the same, we are the ones who have changed. If anything, the standard by the “new covenant” has been raised. It is no longer written on stone, but in our hearts. The “new covenant” is no more “new” than the “new moon” is new every month. It has been the same formula from the beginning - Grace Faith Obedience. Faith without works (obedience) is dead. The three elements are inseparable. We are not saved by our works/obedience, we are obedient because we are saved. Justification -> Spirit -> Sanctification. No salvation, no Spirit, no Spirit, no sanctification. It was the same for Noah, and mankind would not be here if he had not also been obedient. PS - YHVH is found 5700+ times in the Tanakh.

My comment is directed toward a more accurate and broadened presentation (which affects theology in some areas). “Jesus” has connotation that Yeshua does not. Yeshua begins to make sense to a Jew, while Jesus is (the wrong kind of) offensive. There is no “old” or “new” testament. There is only Scripture. These erroneous references only create division, in presentation and substance. The apostolic scriptures are one, the reporting of events fulfilling prophecy, and two, the accurate commentary on the “Scriptures” of the time, that is, Torah, Writings, and Prophets, aka Tanakh (a term Jews recognize). The apostolic scriptures were necessary bc the priests and rabbis had been and were in the process of creating their own (often flawed) commentary aka oral torah (Talmud/Mishnah). These were Jews, writing to other Jews (at the time), and things that had been predominantly “Jewish.” The language of faith was Hebrew not Greek. There is also intrinsic evidence of this bc numerous passages make sense in the Hebrew and not so much in Greek. Further, the symbolism is all Hebrew based on Scripture (the only Scripture they knew, Torah, Writings, and Prophets). Some of these findings are even coming from the Vatican library, but they haven’t realized what they have had. Nehemia Gordon has begun compiling more and more ancient evidence for this. This confusion into Greek was meant to be, to keep end time truth from coming to light too soon. It’s only been recent these discoveries have been made and acknowledged. Nothing I said questions the inspiration of the apostolic scriptures, much of which are quotes and paraphrases of the Tanakh (“old testament”). The name “Jesus” has no inherent meaning bc it has come to us as an English name from Hebrew to Greek to Latin to English. The name Yeshua, on the other hand, is full of meaning (read above). Part of the problem with the Romans taking ver the faith is they continued to be Romans, albeit perhaps saved Romans (some anyway). Romans had been in control for several centuries so they were used to “being right.” They were also mostly antisemitic. Everything “Jewish” was considered bad or at least inferior. Read the writings of the “early church fathers” and you will be astounded at some of what they say. They got right only what the Spirit wanted right at the time, the rest is errant theology by gentiles who were clueless about the things of YHVH and Torah. Ps Mary was also not her name, it was closer to Miryam when directly translated from Hebrew to English. The threshold problem gentiles have in their theology is to overcome their Roman-based bias and acknowledge our Savior was born to Jewish parents in the land of Israel who came first for the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Most Christians don’t even know who this is referring to. They have their terms confused bc they’ve gentilized everything about our Jewish Messiah, including His name.

First, I just want to write that I'm in complete agreement with what you say in this video snippet Dr. Heiser! Years ago I wrote a song "He Makes the Clouds His Chariot," but even then did not realize the full theological impact of those words. But hey, it had a real catchy melody and chord structure! Secondly, though, you have taken Genesis "Let Us make man in Our image," and relegated it to a heavenly "council" instead of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit...in other videos I have watched. Is there not a logical conclusion that "Us" could simply be the Word, which was in the beginning WITH God?
