You said that no one other than the Cons would benefit from an early election but that's not necessarily true. With how bad the Libs and the NDP are doing there is a real possibility that the Bloc might become the official opposition.

The official opposition doesn't help the bloc though, they want the power to influence policy to help Quebec, if the conservatives have a majority they have no power to influence and therefore it doesn't matter how many or few seats they really have.

@@caymanmew182 Short term, they do gain a little (being able to ask for the moon and then point at the evil anglos who wont give it to you makes for easy PR wins). Long term, they potentially gain a lot. The tories won't hold a majority forever, and beating out the liberals AND NDP for official opposition puts them in a strong bargaining position if the Liberals win another minority. They might be seen as the "priority partner" rather than the NDP. Every day that ticks by closer to the hard election deadline, the less the bloc can expect to wring out of Trudeau. As time goes on, propping him up makes less and less sense.

He's also not covering the worrying visit PP and Stephen Harper going to the Hungarian run Danube Institute, run by Viktor Orban. I know Stephen Harper is gone but he publicly praised Orban and his policies which have destroyed democracy and filled positions with Orban's high school buddies at the expense of the Hungarian tax payer.

It's not about "an agreement"... from and NDP vantage point, it's that allowing an election would mean a Conservative majority, which would be throwing away the current political leverage the NDP has over the Liberals to influence policy. It's smart and pragmatic strategy from NDP to prolong an election since the Cons are more ideologically opposed to the NDP anyway.

@dantea7475 I would say 100% of Canadian's voted for left wing parties. The conservative party is marginally less left wing than the liberals, does that make them right wing then? Even when all of their party principles and goals and policy positions are left wing, but just slightly less so? Each of the major parties all espouse the same basic beliefs and goals, only differing in the way that they believe is best to achieve those goals. Is that because 100% of canadians also support those goals? Or is it because those are the goals all the major donors, lobbiests, international NGOs, and advocacy groups support? And it really has very little to do with what canadians want and they all just vote on their perception of what they think the least bad option would be since these are the only options. In the end, canadians get basically nothing that they want, and the donors, lobbiests, and power brokers get everything that they want regardless of who actually gets in.

While the party leaders don’t benefit much from an election the members could have some benefit as that could be a chance to remove the leaders and rebuild their party images as the liberal/NDP are very unpopular and that’s probably not gonna change much and if the bloc bends to them their popularity could drop

What I would mention about the current system is that Poilievre might also potentially be screwed depending on what happens with this foreign interference thing. Not only are there a lot of concerns being expressed about the conservatives and potential links to that foreign interference, including in the previous couple leadership elections, but also Poilievre's refusal to get a security clearance is nonsensical. He's been using the excuse that he would not be able to speak on anything if he got it, but that's bullshit. His party might actively be choosing to run candidates that might have links to foreign interference that could be avoided now if he got that clearance. Further, if he wants to be leader of Canada, Prime Minister's need security clearance anyways. It's just very weird that he is so adversarial to this even though he's going to need to get it done. Could this scandal be a huge heap of nothing? Potentially. But, if it's found out that there was substantial interference, that there might be multiple MPs that wittingly, semi-wittingly, or un-wittingly are compromised? That changes everything.

As a Liberal voter, I'm not happy with Trudeau as leader, but I also believe that most of the real work of government is done by other members of the party and bureaucratic public servants, so I put a lot more weight into the specifics presented in the Liberal platform over my personal dislike for Trudeau's style and controversies. That said, I'm also one of the policy freaks that actually looks up every party's platforms to compare point by point to decide how I want to vote. While I recognize that these platform promises rarely get completely fulfilled, it's at least a good comparison for the direction each party wants to take in providing solutions for various issues. For example, all parties may say they're going to tackle the housing crisis, but solutions may vary from subsidizing construction, to subsidizing first time home buyers, implementing rent-to-own laws, and/or easing regulatory hurdles for new construction. These are the sorts of things I look for when comparing party platforms to determine which party I should vote for. So at the end of the day, I would like Trudeau to be replaced as leader of the Liberals, with no specific replacement in mind as I don't follow politics quite that closely, but I may still be voting Liberal in the next election, with probably the biggest plus for the Conservatives being Poilievre's housing policies, and the biggest minus for the Conservatives being their environmental policy. And though I don't mention the NDP, I do prefer some of their policies in various areas, most often healthcare, but they're not a serious contender in my riding.
