You're like the only person other than me who thinks 3 for Walter White despite how much of his motivation is built around recognition and fulfilling a cultural archetype of an American man. One of the main promotional images for season 5 says "Remember My Name".

Walter’s a SO3 (open to SP3) I agree. It’s just that people have a stereotypical view of what prestige and success means “Say My Name” and the whole “I am the one who knocks” exemplifies how much of a three he is

Well you can't really blame him if he gets anything wrong tbh, he wasn't teaching the enneagram for the sake of getting people to know about typology. He was just using the modern RHETI enneagram descriptions as a writing cheat code. He is trying to use the enneagram types as character tropes to give people ideas for their stories, not to teach people typology
@Just_Rusted
@Just_Rusted 16 күн бұрын
Nobody is really blaming him, in fact if you have seen my other responses, I understand his motivations and I think what he is doing with Enneagram is cool, the reason why I was not hard on him was because of exactly this but besides all that, such videos still will impact many people trying to learn enneagram and if that is going to happen, they might as well learn it the right way from us.

First time I've heard of this guy and I'm glad I didn't get introduced through him to enneagram. I applaud you for keeping your cool with all the mistypes, I got a little pissed when he used Will Hunting as an example. Good Will Hunting is one of my favourite movies and it's the most obvious and best deconstruction of SX6 that I've seen in any movie or work of fiction. The fact that this guy ocassionally accurately describes E5 and then contradicts himself with all of his examples aside from Oppenheimer and Beth is crazy. I guess in his mind he doesn't contradict himself, because E5 seeks "competence" and "independence". Bruh When he points out the E6 and E5 similarities and then say it doesn't matter, because it's made up anyway also annoyed me. No it's not "made up anyway", it's based on actual people who were studied by actual psychologists. It's like saying math is just a bunch of meaningless symbols and numbers. Sure with math the results are more simple and clear, but it still just as well uses symbols in number that are supposed to represent a studied concept, just like enneagram. The analysis still has to trough the scientific method, because it observes and analyses human psychology. It's no rocket science or advanced quantum physics, but it shouldn't be considered as "it's made up anyway".
@Just_Rusted
@Just_Rusted 16 күн бұрын
I was surprised to see E5 for Will Hunting, I would think the only alternative would be like SX6/SX4 rather than any E5, he doesn't fit a single subtype lol. I understand about the whole made up thing, I mean ngl idk why I'd use something that is made up but you do you type of thing.

i really think this is one of the best explanations of enneagram 5. people tend to think there is only one way of being a 5 which is a nerd, one way of being a 3 which is a millionaire and so on and so on without taking into consideration upbringing, enviroment and all possible variants. there are 5s who are into sports (juan román riquelme, football player of boca junios), are fictional heroes (geralt of rivia in the books)
@Just_Rusted
@Just_Rusted 16 күн бұрын
Geralt from Rivia is SP9, being E5 is not being a nerd but it's a type that is passive and detached from the external world, kinda like E9 but the difference is how intellectualized and abstract this type is.

I'm kinda new in enneagram, but still I’ve had a thought that might be a bit controversial? (correct me if I got something wrong) But when I read the definitions of 5 and the nature of this whole 'detachment', how does that even align with INTP, for example? Because, idk, Ti is supposed to focus on solving problems, structure, finding contradictions, creating methods etc... To me, that strongly resembles “looking for ways to deal with the external world,” while 5s supposedly wants to cut themselves off from that external world and not participate in it. Ti dom & e5 seems like a strange combination to me, even though it’s very common but again maybe I simply don't understand
@Just_Rusted
@Just_Rusted 7 күн бұрын
You have good insights and you're right, Ti dominance contradicts E5 on a fundamental level, that is why E5 is Ni dom. INTP is more of what we think of the Social 6, an individual who is quite intellectual but relies on logical certainty in order to cope with existential uncertainty.

Tbh, that's why Enneagram isn't worth using, imo, unlike Jungian models There's no real initial resarch or basis for it, it's essentially just an accumulation of things over time. That's why we can have two wildly different interpretations like this, and there's no going back to the initial definitions/model like you can with Jung (where you could trace most of it back to its origins, and argue it)

Most likely 6 (SX or SO specifically). @@Just_Rusted Umm well I think I have some idea. Kinda super presumptuous of you to assume that I don't. According to wikipedia, typology is; "the study of various traits and types, or the systematic classification of the types of something according to their common characteristics. Typology is the act of finding, counting and classifying facts with the help of eyes, other senses and logic." Yeah. That all seems to make sense to me. I'd like to share in greater detail, my concerns about how you present Enneagram content. While it may resonate with a niche online audience who enjoy categorizing and discussing personality types simply for it's own sake, I worry that your approach might alienate mainstream audiences who could genuinely benefit from the Enneagram's problem-solving tools. Just seems like more of a misinformation circle-jerk to me. Your content often focuses on surface-level quirks, vibes, aesthetics, and stereotypes, which reduces the Enneagram's potential for deeper insights. I think you've found success largely due to appealing to a specific demographic, rather than offering truly insightful commentary. Again... it just seems like a massive misinformation circle-jerk.
