I appreciated your comment on the “all sin is the same in God’s eyes”, it’s always felt wrong to assume such a thing, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way

I thought long and hard about this as well and my definition of lust is a strong desire to have someone who does not belong to you and who you do not intend to serve and love but a strong desire for someone that is not yours that you want for selfish reasons it is self-serving...

While the Bible does not explicitly mention masturbation, one might speculate that it does allude to it by placing sin about lust in close proximity to sin done with the hand: "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. - Matthew 5:27-30 NIV [2011]

(This is meant to make you laugh, although it’s a true story. ) Musicians go on the road. Years ago my bff and I were having dinner with my hubby the drummer and her hubby the bass player. The ‘’subject” came up along with the topic of groupies, etc. We teasingly asked what they thought about while ‘in the shower.’ My drummer....never missing a beat...said he fantasizes about a threesome with ALIENS. 😂 I figure after hearing these Little Lessons that if you imagine something not real it’s not the sin of lust because there is no disrespect toward another person. I will spare you all, dear ones, his goofy description of these aliens but they ARE green and don’t have regular human features so it’s pretty fantastical. And! A very good way to answer a question like that from your spouse because I’ve never been able to feel jealous of aliens 👽 ! xobookworm

I wrestle with this as well and see it this way. If you look at a woman in appreciation for her physical beauty or personality or whatever draws your attention but see them as someone you would like to see those attributes in a mate to be married to. Now the problem occurs if you start to fantasize or imagine something more than the admiration. Sure ultimately that is what would be needed in a relationship but should be held in check until that relationship is birth not before. Any lust is sin period. When you find yourself drifting down that road, stop yourself and repent immediately and thank Jesus for helping you see the error of your thoughts.

James 2:10 states otherwise. There aren’t different levels of sin: this can be misleading to babes in Christ, who may believe they can do a little sin and still be ok. Lust is lust, whenever the thought of concupisence comes over us, we must repent...and truly ask Jesus to work with us regarding this issue.

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By taking heed according to Your word.” Psalms 119:9 “God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.” 1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 “But I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.” Romans 7:23 “So if your eye-even your good eye -causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” Matthew 5:29 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans12: 1-2 “To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4: 22-24 So you see, we are instructed to be pure of heart & mind. Not to think as the world would think but as our new nature in Christ would have us to be sanctified, set apart taking our thoughts & actions captive and not giving in to the lusts of the flesh. Jesus warned that even if you looked at someone in lust & had impure thoughts about them you were committing adultery in your heart. Obviously, no physical touching was involved...just a THOUGHT! Masterbation is touching oneself while having IMPURE SEXUAL THOUGHTS about another person. That is why the Lord also said we needed to take our thoughts captive. Masturbation is a result of our thought life and the Lord has plenty to say about our thought life. You are misleading many by saying it’s ok. We are to be careful with our thought life because if one doesn’t take control of it we could easily act upon our impure impulses in real life. That is how many fall into the trap of fornication & adultry. They think about the act and then become comfortable playing it out in real life...you are giving dangerous advice. We must keep our thought life pure & crucify the flesh & its worldly desires. Take up your cross and follow after Jesus. I was also guilty of masturbation but when I became born again of the spirit of the living God I was convicted. The Lord also revealed to me that there are spirits of lust named Incubus and Succubus look them up. We do not war against flesh & blood but against principalities in the spirit realm. Guard your heart & thoughts & choose to live a holy life, least the enemy of your souls tempt you to sin against a Holy God.

David Servant I heard this whole series till you talked about different degrees of sin at the 4:50 mark. I disagree with you. James 2 tells us that all sin is the same and if your guilty of breaking one law your just as guilty breaking all of God's law.. Now consequences however are different. Certain sins have different levels of consequence.

I'm a Christian guy that is stuck because there's no solution for me. I have sexual desires like everyone else but unfortunately, I'm not attracted to women so I can't get married. I also can't marry a guy or be with the same gender because that's supposedly a sin so I literally have no choice but to stay single forever and that's kinda sad. Please no one tells me to pray the gay away, I tried it doesn't work.

I disagree with you on lust not being the same as adultery if you lust in your heart you have already committed in your heart and that's what god looks and judges us from and I also disagree with what you said about thinking about stealing from someone,yes it is as bad as any other sin and actually in called coveting or envy or strife so I can't agree with that

Thanks, David. I have a couple of questions... 1.) We admire the beauty of God's creation in various forms. Is it a sin to admire the beauty of women other than one's wife, provided one doesn't sexually lust after them? 2.) Regardless of how different sins were treated in the Old Testament, these are the words ofJesus in Rev 21:8, "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” This may not be an exhaustive list of sins, but other than a couple of sins which are found among the 10 commandments, the others seem relatively minor, yet the consequences are the same - eternity in hell. How then can we say that not all sins are the same in God's eyes?
@joev22232 жыл бұрын
I'm not the author, but I'll try to answer this. Concerning #1, what are your motives for looking at a woman not your wife for that purpose? You have found a good thing in having a wife, enjoy having her. Desire after her, be content. Concerning #2, any sin, even a single sin in your entire life gets you hell, but I think there a varying degrees of hell. Think Jude 1:13. Christians do not practice sin. That's not to say that they don't sin,but that they don't sin the same sin without care. It's not a way or life for them. Any sin will be forgiven those found in Christ
@gmatt33292 жыл бұрын
@@joev2223 Thanks for your answer. Regarding #1, in 1 Tim 2:8-10 it says: I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works. And 1 Pet 3:3-5 says: Do not let your adornment be merely outward-arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel- rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands," These are character traits that each individual has to painstakingly develop in herself over a lifetime. This is not beauty that one is born with. If all women were created to look plain outwardly, then the attraction would be only their modesty, humility, propriety, moderation, godliness, and good works, which are the actual qualities needed for a Christian wife. The true beauty of a woman is the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, and submissiveness. Instead God created women with outward beauty as well, which is not a quality required of a Christian wife. So why did He create women that way if not for men to admire the beauty of His handiwork? We admire other beautiful creations all around us the same way, so why not admire beautiful women? Admiring the outward beauty of a woman doesn't mean desiring her for a wife. Afterall who would want a wife who is proud, vain, wicked, and of poor character. The way i see it, the fine line between admiring and lusting after a woman, is similar to the line between drinking alcohol and getting drunk. The Bible doesn't teach that drinking is wrong, but it does warn us against getting drunk.
@joev22232 жыл бұрын
@@gmatt3329 like you've said, it is a fine line. I think you can admire that a woman is beautiful, etc. to a certain extent, but it is a fine line. Really, physical beauty is only skin deep, so it can be vain to spend too much time admiring it when the true beauty is the inner beauty of a woman who is submissive, quiet, and humble, and this too could be overdone, especially if one is married I would think. (If it's not your own wife you're admiring) because I'd think you start thinking why isn't my wife all these things? Even if you're not married, you can admire these qualities, but if they are ultimately the qualities of another man's wife, it could still be a problem. To, as a single man, admire these qualities in a single woman, again, it could cross the line, but there has to be something drawing you to her, and those qualities as well as outer beauty are part of the draw. Not sure if that makes sense.

Remember though that Jesus was speaking to those who were under the old covenant of law He was actually preaching the law on steroids! I know it says in our bibles just before Matthew chapter one the page previously in big block letters "THE NEW TESTAMENT " but in actual fact Jesus being a testator of the new covenant had to die to ratify it therefore the new covenant didn't start with baby Jesus lying in a manger. When Jesus spoke remember there were no Christians and therefore when we read the gospels we need to even put the words of Jesus through the cross otherwise we will put ourselves in bondage. Yes lust is a big thing but Paul speaking by the Spirit this side of the cross says fix your eyes on Jesus and sin will not have dominion over you for you are not under law but under grace. Jesus said a lot of other things to that are hard to swallow such as plucking out your eye if it causes you to sin or cutting off your hand if we were obeying this today the church would look like an amputation ward. We need good exigencies and hermeneutics! So in summary fix your eyes on Jesus not Sin!
