Is Mercari Legit? Sharing my $32k Experience.

Don’t appreciate your personal opinions on Mercari’s platform .. you have a large audience (I’ve been one), and with your comments and personal opinions about the platform being mostly for local and part-time sellers, you’ve tarnished the online traffic myself (for three years) and other sellers have been building .. hopefully your followers (I’m now excluding myself) will realize your personal opinions are not the “end all - be all” opinion of many Mercari buyers and sellers!

Mercari is garbage! The buyers on Mercari only want garage sale prices. It's a waste of time to cross-post to Mercari from eBay! By the way, Chris is very transparent with his followers and I'm glad he's opened about how bad Mercari is as a resales platform!

Don’t be too quick to assume that. Watching Chris and respecting his opinion is one part but he offered up a link and actually created more interest for me to look more into Mercari , both as a buyer and seller. His comments of easier to list and knowing the number of views interests me along with the expectations/reality in the first 3 days. I didn’t take it as negative, only based on his experience. I’m excited to check it out. 😊💕

Mercari is the biggest platform I sell on... And unfortunately for me it's true people want stuff for cheap I made about $2,600 on Mercari last year $400 the year before. I list every day. I get low ball offers all day every day but I would rather make that $3.61 profit than no money at all. I have about 5 big items on Mercari local but nobody has bought from me yet. I don't find anything Chris said untrue. It's all about the product, the quality, and pricing.

Not really a fan of mercari tbh, I like the simplicity of the app but that’s it, they advertise their platform like a yard sale for e-commerce and as a result they attract cheap and broke buyers.

Not a huge fan of Mercari, but it’s way less work than Poshmark, and very similar in listing style to Poshmark. Mercari is less strict than eBay, but they don’t offer the exposure as eBay. Great review! 👍🏻

I had also posted that Mercari is better than PM, but my comment seems to be missing now... I left only a few select things on PM because it was so much work for so little sales. You can pretty much force sales on Mercari with relisting, works every time.

I've done about 10k in sales in the last month on Mercari by just testing it out and have had more meaningful connections with my customers versus ebay. I think it really depends on what your niche is. The best feature 100% is that Uber will pick up the package from you and deliver the same day (sometimes within a few hours) for cheaper than shipping costs. Pretty revolutionary in my opinion. Yes, there are people who lowball, but I have followers who understand the quality of the things I sell - I just up the price a few dollars for some haggle room and people are happy when they get that 'garage sale' deal even though I sold it for what I wanted in the first place.

@@themckennalynnthanks! I sell modern & vintages collectibles, anything else that I pick up. I have a distributor for modern Pokemon TCG and some other modern collectibles so those go very well on other platforms and my site but Mercari is super easy for me to list at night. I work full time so my time is limited so being able to post up 20 to 40 items a night and still be able to pack up orders is wonderful. It's a great as a supplement especially during the collectible downtime :)

@@tsavesalife you hit the nail on the head. Mercari is more of a supplement to one's other main platforms. I believe a lot of those unhappy with Mercari are looking at it like they do eBay. And so they get disappointed when they aren't raking in the sales. I've been selling on Mercari for 6 months now, and have had a very positive experience, but part of that comes from not expecting EBay type sales and traffic. So when we do have week where we do make a couple hundred, its awesome!

Whoa how do you pull that I have about a thousand vintage clothing items listed and I'm pulling like $500 a month tops. And I'm reasonably active , at least 10 post every 3 days and sometimes 10 post per day

Mercari's best feature is the local selling. I don't sell many large items because of the shipping, but this is a great way to sell those items. I like that you don't have to share endlessly. However, it is time consuming to be relisting old items. I've had that same experience about older things. I also wish the same offers would go out to new likers. Thanks for the great walk through of mercari. Some good ideas to pay attention to!

Mercari closed my account due to prohibited conduct after the seller ship me a brick instead of the item I order. Mind you I’m also a seller and have established myself with many rating compared to a brand new seller. They are good at dodging your questions and not taking any responsibility.

They are the MASTERS at dodging your questions. Support treats you like a DOG. I think they sway things a lot so you really have little control over your sales. Once you've put all the work in getting products up..the sales drop. They need to use their resources on getting more people to the site. The last couple days, I can't get my money out from them and I have things to ship.

Couple other things about Mercari. 1. They do not charge a seller to list an item 2. Items stay listed forever so there is no "rollover" fee at the end of a month. As Chris said, don't leave old items around too long. Relist them. 3. Offers to "Likers" can sometimes be forced to be lower that what you like. I think it has something to do with an items historical low price - 5% or something like that. This can be frustrating when you can't send an offer or have to send out a lower offer than you would prefer. 4. Not sure if Mercari has a "Store" option like eBay does.

I love Mercari!!! It’s so easy to list and sell an item. I have 1901 feedback or in the Mercari world Reviews with over 1800 sales to date. Board games and toys is my specialty. They do very well!!!

Before you price your item on Mercari they always try to show similar items that are sloppy cheap so you can drop your price in that area cheating yourself on the true value of your item. Then it's like the phone vibrates with anger or disappointment that you didn't lower your price. I almost slammed my phone to the floor when that happened the first time. Imagine that a phone that vibrates with anger.

I have been selling on Mercari because I have been limited on EBay and you are right sales are not great.

Make sure you are relisting, the listings are done by listing date so the older the listing the further it gets pushed back in search. If you are selling in a saturated category this will make things even worse. I send offers and if no one takes I relist. This will give you fresh eyes on your items. Use the "sell yours" option on your original listing to move most of the information to a new listing without a lot of work. You will need to readd photos, description (just copy and paste), and fix shipping.

EB started limiting the amount of $$ I can list which is ridiculous. One week I could list only 9c worth of items, the next week it was $26. That EB robot is having a playful moment with my account.

As a new seller, I can’t break into eBay and Poshmark with all the established sellers. I haven’t had that issue with Mercari. I do feel like I am selling to those established eBay and Poshmark sellers, but I am fine with that!

I source a lot on Mercari, I would say about 25% of orders are canceled or never shipped. Another 25% arrive damaged because of poor shipping. At least they make it easy for me to not have to eat it when things go wrong.

Mercari is so super easy to list. I find that more items sell in the "make offer" process. They do all of the work for you. You know exactly what you're getting after fees. Buyer pays for the item as soon as it's sold. Pretty good community. Barrier to entry is very low. I'm still figuring out eBay in 2022.

Periodically, Mercari will have a goal for you to meet, like lets say do 30 listings such and such days. And if you achieve the goal, they give you a coupon to use on the app. It's been a nice way to source from Mercari. They'll send the promotion to your inbox
