My husband abandoned me, claiming he didn’t love me anymore. I asked him if it was because I was overweight and he didn’t answer. I’ve always been active and fit but at that time was 40 lbs overweight. This is a real thing to be concerned about. It hurt for a long time to not feel worth love. He has since had a half dozen girlfriends, the latest being the same age as our oldest son, and I don’t think he’s found happiness yet. I’m currently the healthiest, fittest, and happiest I’ve ever been. We need to take care of ourselves, not because we need men to love us, but because we need to love ourselves.

Actually a lot of people asked because of their own battles. I personally asked because I have sabotaged past relationships because of not having the self-esteem and mental strength to get over my insecurities around weight. I wanted to know how a confident woman learns to ignore the inner saboteur and turn things positive. And yes, I'm in counseling. When you're looking for the tools to a better life it's worth asking the hard questions.
@blueberrymuffin854 жыл бұрын
I agree with you and I also think that because she is sharing her journey (in her case weigh loss) some people mistake that she is sharing her whole life. And that It's ok to poke their noses on other's lives and It's ok to ask this kind of question and expectat that person must be ok with it because they are sharing a small part of their lives with others. People get brave behind a screen. People get bold because they are not face to face. People get prepotent because they get to know a small part of one's life and think that they have the right to tell what is right or what's not (and only considering that they are right and who don't share the same point of view is wrong - by the way I believe that each person has the right to think different but we should respect each others beliefs). That doesn't mean that this person who is sharing part of their lives doesn't have feelings and/ or doesn't care that they would like to keep some aspects of their lives private. People should respect more and have more empathy. Because it's so easy to point finger and analyse other's lives but many don't want to look into their own.

This is a topic I look back on and it causes me grief. My wife died after an operation and although weight was not listed as a cause it was listed on the death certificate as being morbidly obese. I loved my wife and the weight she gained during our marriage never affected our marriage. I wish I had made a bigger deal about it because I feel like if I had she would still be here.It could be that we wouldn't be together because she was very sensitive about that subject but at least she still might be here. That's my only issue with weight. It can wreak havoc on one's health. Keep up the good work. Whether you know it or not you are a positive role model.

I am very happy for April Lauren that her husband is a good guy. She has an amazing personality and is a really great person. But 200 lbs even for an amazing person is a very big deal and can impact physical attraction. I see it as a for sickness and health thing-you don’t want to go through illness with your partner, you don’t want them to gain 200 lbs either. April, my wife had stayed with me, having married me at 195 and stayed with me when I went up to 287 as of June 1st. We both made our vows, and have stuck with them. We've been on a journey of healthy living since June 1st and as of my last weigh in, I'm down to 249. Long ways to go still, but she's been with me the whole way. My advice to anyone out there: 1. Be the kind of person you want to be married to. 2. Don't rush into marriage. Find the right person. Marriage is hard. That's why people make vows at the beginning of it. Be and find the kind of person that sticks to their vows.

It's an awkward question to ask. To ask someone to speak on behalf of their partner's decision why they haven't caused devastation in ending the marriage. It causes twisted thinking. At best- a personal conversation is had that's *not your business* It's blunt and tone deaf but could be answered.

I honestly feared that he held some kind of resentment, so I’m glad I finally just asked. You are absolutely right to say that you just need to have that conversation (regardless of the “issue”). Growing up my mom told me never to be seen without makeup.and that meant I was supposed to get up early and put on makeup before my husband got up. Then I met my husband and he didn't notice whether I wore makeup or not. He noticed if I got fixed up and would flirt snd put the moves on me but he did that when I wore sweats and one of his shirts, too. Fast forward 27 years and 5 kids later and he still is the same. My mother meant well. She wanted me to have a good marriage. She never had that. But it wasn't about makeup, it was about WHO I married. My husband is faithful and devoted because of his character. All the makeup and botox and starvation and whatever else that so many celebrities have used hasn't stopped their faithless spouses from cheating and leaving them. When I started dating my partner I was 11 lbs overweight- but when we'd first met before that, I was about 50 lbs overweight. I just thought he was way out of my league, cutest guy I'd ever met, he was a professional athlete previously. I got the courage to make a move after I'd lost the rough 40 lbs- but he told me that he always thought I was beautiful. Meanwhile, other guys kept me as a "friend" and then when I lost the weight, suddenly were upset that I was in a relationship with someone else. Like your partner is gonna love you and think you're beautiful no matter what. People who are after you for superficial value would never make it with you in the long run, because partnerships are picking each other up no matter what life throws at you. To them- he's a winner *now*. My baby is my baby because he felt like he was a winner always.

But when someone falls in love with YOU, the initial attraction isn’t the most beautiful thing about you anymore. I think a lot of women have the question “will my boyfriend/husband leave if...” and although I think it’s wrong that people asked you this, this video could help so many women 💕 I have so much respect for you April.

You’ve been honest and vulnerable on this journey, but this video truly shows your character. It takes an amazing person to even make a video like this. You are so so strong. I hope this gives people inspiration to be open and talk to their spouse about whatever is going on. Most people would want to hide in shame or stay away from social media, including me. It is amazing to me that you’re facing your problems head on with openness and honesty (although I don’t mean to imply your body is a problem) He is very lucky to have you!

You don't need to promise anyone a "happier" video. I think your attitude is wonderful already. Waking up a little brighter each day often means looking to the dark moments so we can shed the light on them (your mantra already says it all!!). You're doing something very courageous. I'm proud of your willingness to share your views on the murkier topics, and cannot wait to see your continued progress and growth. Keep at it, we're all rooting for you!

I gained 120 pounds after suffering a fall while running. Not only did my husband leave me, but he left me after 23 years because of it and moved in with a woman that is 20 years older than I am. I am focused on my health and you have been a huge inspiration to me. I am down 60 pounds and feel better than I have in a long time. I appreciate your upbeat and encouraging spirit and can’t thank you enough for the motivation you have provided me.

You are always so careful about the way you word things. I can see the wheels turning in your head all the time on how to word things in the most productive way. I appreciate that so much and you’re such an example to me that you can talk about hard topics without offending anyone. If your spouse truly loves you, weight gain alone shouldn’t cause them to leave you. It might be “inconvenient” and they might not be as physically attracted to you, but that’s not necessarily their fault or yours! I think it’s what comes with weight gain that could become a problem. Like depression, or self hatred, or projecting your unhappiness on to them, etc. That’s when you become a different person on the inside than what they married. Anyway, April this was a great video filled with many great incites about marriage even for people who aren’t struggling with weight gain specifically. Thank you so much.

I appreciate you sharing this. A family member once messaged my husband and said "you need to tell her to push her plate away or you're going to leave her" when I was at my heaviest. I remember how bad it hurt me. My husband assures me (and continues to assure me) that he loves me for me. But it always stings in the back of my mind. I love your mindset, April. You have a great relationship and it's important that you have his support. 💜💜💜

I hope on day you see yourself how many of us do- strong, beautiful, kindhearted, determined, loving, humble, smart, creative and so very inspiring. I know your goal is to lose weight and let us follow along but never let people make you feel that weight is the only aspect of your life. You offer the world so much more. when my husband and I met I was around 240. At my heaviest I gained up to 315. Had gastric sleeve and lost 160 pounds so far. 155 as of today. My husband's weight has gone up and down as well and he's currently heavier than when we met while I am smaller. We met 12 years ago this month and celebrated our 10 year anniversery earlier this year. We have a 10 year old (born a month after we got married) and a 4 year old. We've been there for each other and love each other through everything. After this long our committment to each other is stronger than a number on the scale for either of us. I feel you 100% on feeling like your body is a prison once it impacts your mobility. That's where I was at my heaviest.

Just remember, as April said, none of us is perfect. You chose him for a reason. Remember that reason. Let him be himself and you be yourself.
@kyocat7144 жыл бұрын
Communication and honesty is so important. I’ve been with my husband for almost four years, and that has always helped us so much. I grew up with parents who let secrets and doubts burn inside of them forever, ruining their relationship, and I swore I would never do that. Any insecurity I am feeling goes straight into a conversation with him. If I’m unintentionally mean, I look inside myself to find out why, and then go to him to apologize and tell him why. The honesty in this video is beautiful, and you’re beautiful. I appreciate you so much on this platform. 🙂

I'm sorry to say,but loving someone has nothing,absolutely NOTHING to do with sexual attraction. You can be with someone for years,and lose your sexual attraction towards them for any reason. People are allowed to change,either mentally or physically, any given time,but maybe the other person just might not be into it. Doesn't mean they don't love you,they may love you with their whole heart. But sexually...nope.
@rinanova14634 жыл бұрын
@@unowen7416 a lot of men DO cheat because they lose sexual attraction for their partner but that DOES NOT mean that they would ever leave their partner because they love them. Sex and love are two very different things.
@unowen74164 жыл бұрын
@@rinanova1463 I never said anything about anyone leaving anybody,please re-read my reply. All I said was love has nothing to do with sexual attraction. Almost all the older people I know in long term marriages,married over 20,30,40 years,one of the two is having sex is someone else,and the other partner knows about it and is ok with it,for some bizarre reason. Whether one refuses sex,and tells them to find someone else to have sex with,or too sick to have sex,or lose interest from changing personalities,or BORED of the same old personality,nagging/fighting,or changing appearance (gaining,losing,hair loss,aging,ECT),or maybe just want something different and exciting and new. All those old school couples rarely leave their marriages,because they love their partner,but are having sex elsewhere. With me,I met my ex overweight,and he loved me,until I lost 100 lbs 11 years into our relationship. He demanded I gain the weight back,I refused. He wasn't attracted to me,started cheating with fat chicks,I left HIM. People can't help who they're attracted to,and its ok.

Totally agree! If someone leaves/cheats due to something as miniscule as weight gain then they never truly loved you, I myself was much smaller when my significant other and I met and in the 4+ years alot has happened from loss of a parent, to sickness of another parent, terrible teen years to life in general and instead of drugs/alcohol my compfort was solely food..I had gotten into a really dark place where I was so disgusted with myself that I questioned "how could this man love me, I'm different" so I asked that question to him and his reply was simply "I didn't factor in your size to begin with..your personality and outgoing nature was the spark for me" needless to say my heart melted and those things are just nice to hear especially when your in doubt so I agree these tough conversations are necessary. I'm still on this weightloss journey with you my friend and like you I have my struggles and some days are forsure alot easier than others but I have to remember I didn't gain this overnight and I'm not gonna lose it overnight, however I have put my scales away!! I have decided to keep making healthier choices and solely go by how my clothes fit and rely on progress photos. For myself the scale is so discouraging! Thank you for addressing this question, I think alot of people have the same concern just needed a safe place to talk about it. As always love your videos! Happy Labor Day!
