I really like this mic. I never liked the low end of the sm7b, especially on my voice, so I bought both the mv7 and the pd-70 and once I compared them, I sent the mv7 right back.
@patrickchase5614

But if you like that sound why use a dynamic mic at all? To me the PD70's voicing seems to emphasize everything that dynamics are not so good at. If I wanted this voicing I can think of any number of condensers that can deliver it "better" (where better is entirely subjective of course). I say that as someone who generally likes dynamics, and has SM7B, Beta58, SM58, KSM8, and EV RE50 in their locker.
@gillythekid
@gillythekid 3 жыл бұрын
@@patrickchase5614 because dynamic mics do a much better job at rejecting background noise. I use condensers for singing and voice over. For something like livestreaming, dynamics are much better.
@patrickchase5614
@patrickchase5614 3 жыл бұрын
@@gillythekid Fair point, and I do use dynamics in those applications (and the Beta58 is particularly nice with its 120 degree null. I find that in practical working setups it's often easier to position competing sources there than at 180).
@gillythekid
@gillythekid 3 жыл бұрын
@@patrickchase5614 I think that’s the main reason I like the mic. I prefer the sound of condensers pretty much 100% of the time, but some inherent characteristics of dynamic mics are better suited for specific applications. If it were optimal, I’d use a condenser for live streams, so I guess with the pd-70 I get the benefits of using a dynamic without the typical “broadcast dynamic” sound that I don’t even like anyway

I bought this mic for use during recording bands that are loud and might want to keep the session vocal as the “keeper”. I have had success with that using a SM7b, chosen because it has a controlled proximity effect and good rejection off axis. To get the SM7b loud enough to be heard well in the monitor during the loud session, the pre has to be cranked and the high and upper mid eq jacked up. So I got the PD70 because I wind up having to adjust the SM7b to sound like the PD70 anyway, in that application.

You sounded positively sweet, especially in the outro (and I normally avoid that word). It baffles me how little it can sometimes take to achieve that, and how far away we stray from it when we try a bit too hard to seem either Professional or Cool. I appreciate your work and your presence. I think it constitutes a good spice in this crazy internet cauldron.

Me "Wow, this mic sounds a bit harsh.." *Looks at Tech Specs EQ* "Yeah, that'll do it." I really like it on Electric Guitar, and I like how it sounds on Acoustic. If you're looking for a more "Pop" style of acoustic sound I think it'll work well with it. The lack of body makes it unwanted for anything else. I kinda like how it sounds when you get right on top of it. It still accents the low end without it booming. Although, I think it would work better if the EQ curve was a bit more flat.

Your reviews have always been amazing but the energy in this one had me laughing. I'm so glad you compared it to the Zoom ZDM-1 because no one else has and I'm deciding between these two for streaming. I feel like I can hear that 20-20 clarity on the PD but the Zoom makes the PD sound thin. And the fact that it punches up at $50 less is a huge draw. Thanks so much for helping me in my decision!

Of all these microphones my favorite for vocal applications is the SE Electronics V7. Its super cardioid polar pattern simply is less sensitive to environmental.noise like my MacBook Pro’s fans from 2 feet away than the cardioid microphones. The silence in background noise is a night and day differerence.

Min for Mic, this doesn't stand a chance against the SM7B, but from a price perspective, you get like three of these for one SM7B. A bit of EQ'ing and some room treatment (including NOT having it's arm physically attached to the desk you are using), it's as good as anything else at the pricepoint.

Hello Brother! Great video again! I still think its too thin for my liking, i really liked how the Zoom ZDM-1 sounded in comparison and its like 40-50 bucks cheaper, i liked the Podmic in comparison too, but the ones that really shined were the classic (and my favourite) SM58, and the SE V7, you were correct in saying that those can give it a run for its money anyday. I would have loved if you would have included the XM8500 in the comparison too alongwith Q2U and ATR2100 because they are recommended very often for podcasting too! Kudos to you for your efforts yet again, Much Love!!

I've heard really great things about their Shure clones (which includes the 57s and 58s, the Betas, and their own $120 SM7B clone), but not much in the way of experienced reviewers. I don't know how easy it is to get stuff from Thomann in the U.S, but you'd be doing your European audiences a great service.

I am honestly curious about your opinion of the huge price ranges on microphones. Do you believe they are justified for what you get? I mean, if you can get decent mics for 100 dollar. Why do you need to buy a 400 dollar one? Ofcourse, the EQ levels of a mic can be different. One is topheavy, the other is too thin and the next is rumbly. But a lot of things can be evened out with post processing. And one mic can absorb background noise, while the other reflects it. This can be permanently fixed by applying acoustic treatment and sound isolation, which also benefits other audio uses. And just not touch the body of the mic when using it. Ofcourse it's not ideal. And one that elimates all issues is ofcourse best. But what I mean to say is: Is it worth 300 dollar extra? Something in my head doesnt feel right buying a 400 to even 500 dollar mic when for that same amount you buy 3 or 4 other mics that are decent. It reminds me of the audiophile hifi war where audiophiles claimed they prefer gold plated speaker cables worth 50 dollars per meter over an extra insulated cable worth 10 dollar per meter. When it turns out there are no audible differences. Sure, there are minor pro's. But the cost ratio was too big. Gold plated was just a marketing trick to sell shit to self absorbed people. (sorry) Isn't that the same case with these 400 / 500 dollar mics? I mean, get the 'idea' that you are the pro, because you have the most expensive equipment therefore you must be good. (and because all the other studios uses it) Isnt this a marketing trick too?

Nice work, also can you review Boya BY-M1000 if you are able to get your hands on one?

Sounds extremely harsh and overly bright. It would get annoying after listening to this Mic for an extended period of time. For the most part same with all the other mics aside from SM58 and SM7B. The SM7B on the other hand sounds silky smooth, dark and intimate. I could listen to it for hours without fatigue. It’s as if you’re speaking to someone on a personal level at night time in a quite room, chill, very velvety.

Bandrew! If you can get your hands on one, could you review the new Presonus Revelator? I know I know, ANOTHER USB microphone 🙄 but it has built in dsp processing so you can create your own EQ presets and save it straight to the mic as well as some other handy features so I just wanted to see your thoughts on it before I consider getting one. Maybe do a comparison to the Shure MV7?

My friend is thinking of getting a new mic, he decided on getting the Shure mv7 (He is a gamer) then he found out about the Samson Q9u, Should he buy the shure mv7 now while the price is low or should he wait for the Samson Q9u?

My vote goes to the MV7 because it's available now. The Samson has kept people waiting for a while now.

I prefer this over the Podmic, which to me is a bit more top-heavy. And it's currently $99, so of course I got two. Ha!

I waited 3 months for the podmic only to buy the pd70 the day it came out because I loved the background noise floor level. It doesn't pick anything up around me and that's INSANE! The podmic was picking everything up....

are you not a fan of the m88 tg or m69 or m201, or perhaps, the miktek pm9 vs say, the sm7b?
