As broadcast mics this is second after the Shure, has a very nice tone but is too real like emulating a condenser where the Shure has a dynamic dreamy Tone, Compressed, however this sound very nice and has the look

Very good video of pros and cons, when you go to improve the noise panels are you going to make video?

I’m planning on doing a video on everything that I can. Especially if it it has to do with a new studio. Hopefully I can do a “treatment” video before I move but if not then it’ll have to be next year when I eventually build a new studio in my own place. Thanks for checking out the video!

The only reason, why I don't use my PD-70 is the handling noise / lack of shock mounting. Every button press on my keyboard (not even a mechanical keyboard) is getting transferred from my desk through the Rode PSA-1 into the PD-70. As the frequency of theses shocks is higher than 100Hz, a low cut is not helping me here. Went back to my AT875R boom-mic + shock mount.

That is definitely an issue with the PSA-1 paired with the PD70. I don't have my PSA-1 anymore but I use a more sturdy arm and it works great with most mics. I also use the Blue Compass, which is much better at rejection of noise. Thanks for checking out the video!

The first time i saw and heard the pd 70 i really didn't like it especially when it kept getting compared against the sm7b but now the mic is growing on me while not my favorite mic I prefer the shure sm58 and the rode podmic over it but if someone was to gift it to me i wouldn't be mad

These are all great mics. Especially for their prices. It really comes down to personal preference. Sure some thing are better than others but they even out in the end and it comes down to your own use case. Thanks for checking out the video!

how do you get your audio to sound so clean/clear. I mean that in a good way. I know a lot of people are after that sm7b/broadcast vibe but I personally am aiming for your sound. I'm on the q2u and talking about 2 inches into the mic over xlr and doing some post. Besides a high pass filter and eq on those boomy freq do you do anything special to get that clear sound?

It definitely helps that I did those tests in the booth. Also you can throw a HINT, emphasis on the hint, of noise suppression or an expander. The reason why I say hint is because if you go too far you lose detail in your voice, which defeats the purpose of using it. Also noise gates and vocals are not usually my go to. Gates are great for percussion and instruments similar to that. Now for EQ, you can use the examples that I show in the 1 year video but everyone is different. So you need to find the tone you like for you. I hope this helps, I have eq videos for n the works for the PD70 and AT2020. Those may help as well. Let me know if you have any more questions. planning to buy this as a singing mic as my studio room is not treated, is this ok for vocals?
@RebelTech1990

I think you can make it work. It has flexibility when it comes to post processing. Keep in mind you won’t get a “crisp” sound like a condenser mic will provide. If you plan on using it for strictly singing, then I would consider getting a condenser mic with good off axis rejection. I have a bunch of co denser mic videos and there are a ton on YT. The AT2035 is in that price range and you can get some really good quality out of it. Also when it comes to treating a room, you don’t have to be fancy. You just need to redux reflections. Soft surfaces of any type will help with that. Hope this helps. Thanks for checking out the video!

@@RebelTech1990 Thanks, I use a condenser mic for solo vocal recordings but my room is untreated so it picks up a lot of ambient noise, specially when we are playing the edrums, I use a $20 dynamic mic when recording the band so it has less noise from the other instruments, I just want to improve the quality of the voice because my current setup has that muddy, nasal tone, many thanks to your review, I was picking between the rode podmic, zoom zv1 and this PD-70 and your videos made me decide to go for the PD-70, waiting for it to arrive this week.

mic arrived, and one thing I notice right after I plug it to my zoom l12 is the gain, it has less gain than my kevler dm950 dynamic mic ($20 mic) almost the same tone as my condenser (boya bm1000) and comparing to my dynamic mic that has a full deep tone this is more in the highs and tamed at the mids it has more sheen - I think that's my word for it, so I had to change the eq preset that I used before to boost the highs of my previous mic, I thought I need a mic activator but my zoom can drive it at 50% clean gain, will be experimenting on the eq but overall happy with my purchase, many thanks to your review!

PD-70 or ZDM-1??
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on two things. 1) How is your room, acoustically/outside noise? 2) How much do you want to do in post processing? If you want something that is good to go and less work, the the ZDM-1 is good. It also has a great off axis rejection. But don't move it around, other wise it'll be noisy. If you feel up to it, the PD-70 has the bigger up side. At least in my opinion. I have tried to EQ the ZDM-1 and it works but not as well as the PD-70. I just feel you can get more out the of the PD-70. The downside is the off axis rejection comparatively. It does pick some more surrounding noise. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for checking out the video!

@@RebelTech1990 Thank you so much for your input. I like both sounds of the mics so it has been difficult trying to decide on one. I got both mics on sale. the ZDM-1 at $49 and the PD-70 at $99, initially wanted to pair the mics with a SM7B that I already own. but at $49 I could also have 4 ZDM-1's so I don't have to worry about using the SM7B as a fourth mic. If I go with the PD-70, I would use the SM7B as a 4th mic, so would the PD-70 be a good pair with the SM7B especially using eq on the PD-70 to match with SM7B? What would you do in this predicament of mine. Thanks.
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 2 жыл бұрын
I would go with the PD-70 to put with the SM7B. That is two of the mics. After that if you want more mics then it comes down to what you are doing. If you want two good mics and other be backup then the ZDM-1 is a good back up. Really it comes down to what your budget is as well. Going with 3 PD-70s and a SM7B would be great. If you can’t do that then you can mix and match. Just to clarify, what mics do you have right now?

@@RebelTech1990 I've owned the SM7B for several years now. I was just looking to get into a a 4 mic podcast setup. Just having a tough time deciding between the ZDM-1 and PD70 to pair with the SM7B. Due to cost I can easily get 4 ZDM-1's(on sale at $49 a piece) and not have to worry about pairing with the SM7B or I can get 3 PD70's( on sale $99) to pair with the SM7B. -ps. I do have ZDM-1's on hand but still return eligible, I was just trying them out.

Personally I would go with 4 PD-70s, but that's double the cost. I just feel the upside to the PD-70 is much higher than the ZDM-1. That being said, if you feel up to the challenge the ZDM-1 is great for that price.

Which microphone is best? Presonus pd70 or Se v7
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 Жыл бұрын
I don't know much about the SEV7, so I can't say much. It has a nice sound and seems like a nice build, based on what i've watched. The PD-70 is still a solid option but there are so many mics out, around the same price that it really comes down to what sound you like more. I think Podcastage covered that mic, check out his video and that will give you a good idea of what it has to offer
