I'm around a lot of teenagers. Given the opportunity to nap when they need , those who do nap tend to go to bed earlier at night and sleep better. Less snoring.

Napping is a great opportunity to rest during the day when tired.

I’m 61 years old and increasingly take a 20 to half an hour nap every day. I still run a large company and find this helps. That said I just saw an article that said napping might be a sign of dementia. So of course I freaked out and came over here and this makes me feel better.

Are we polyphasic if breaking up nighttime sleep? Harkening to the medieval practise of rising during the night for a few hours and going back to bed - is this natural? The second sleep.

Hi Shawn. Hope you are well. Great point! I believe that this is correct as folks in the middle ages broke their sleep into equal parts with interim period dedicated to meditation and/or prayer. Perhaps the induction of artificial light changed all of this? Nice to hear from you.

Schedule your lunch @ 2pm. Eat a quick (15 min) packed lunch, or snack during work, so you don't need a lunch. Set an alarm incase you fall asleep. Then Meditate. Don't TRY to sleep. Trying to sleep is the best way not to sleep. Instead, just relax and meditate with eyes your closed. If you fall asleep, great. If you only meditated, great. There's no stress in this; no deadline. I use my car for privacy, and I play a specific piece of music that I only use when meditating or sleeping. After awhile you can train yourself to meditate/nap on command. It's a quick power nap (or a lovely meditation) but it makes a world of difference.
