I hated my Pixel 8 when it came out. It overheated horribly, apps froze randomly, battery life was horrible, etc. But google did it. Somehow, they addressed every issue with software updates, and the pixel is a rock solid phone now. Now, that the pixel 9 is about to release.

Short aswer: YES Pixel 9 series really isn't a big enough upgrade to justify $300 more for the base model, and $450 more for the large pro (compared to the current pixel 8 / 8 pro sale prices [$499 and $649] on the official google store). Just buy the pixel 8 pro now for $649, it's an amazing deal. The only reason to wait for the pixel 9 series is if you want a small pro since that doesn't currently exist.

I've had mine since early April and it's been a perfectly okay phone. It was on sale and I grabbed a 256 GB model. While I like it, I do feel a bit of buyers remorse when the S24 has this beat almost every way except for photography and the cheaper price and better sales. I do think this is a fine phone but there's clearly better out there. Sadly I don't feel enthusiastic about smartphones anymore and this was what I settled with. You'll have a good time with it but do expect things like battery life to be worse than the competition. I do get all day use should I monitor my usage, but if you're going to be using this for GPS or using the camera quite a bit, bring a power bank.

Pixel 8 seemed like the perfect choice on paper, but then I tried it in a shop and it stuttered on scrolling so badly. It was immediately noticeable. I tried out several different units just to make sure, and they all had the same issue. I googled it later, and stutter on scroll seems to be a well known issue with many complaints. Google said it's fixed in Android 15, but those who have tried the beta have reported back that it has not been fixed, which could mean that it's a hardware issue. If it gets a significant enough discount, then it may be worth it, but it is not as smooth as the other flagships. Shame, because it seems like a great phone otherwise.

Google doesn't sell Pixels in my country, so people buy it abroad and Pixel 8 has regular connection issues (sometimes it's just misses the call or suffers from quality of call, or if you went out from an elevator the connection can appear only after 10 minutes). As mentioned earlier in the comments, battery life is not that good and Tensor G3 can heat without any reasons. And the screen is great, but it has a big pulse-width modulation (PWM), which is the typical problem of samsung's screens. I really wish Google will solve these problems in the next generations, but now I think twice before buying Pixel 8 (Or even Pixel 9, will see).

Yes its still completely worth it. I disagree on the charging portion of this video tho. The fast charging on this phone is good enough for me. I charge it when i wake up and get ready for work for 30min-1hr and within that time its always almost full if not at 100%. Takes just under 1hr 20min from 0-100% using Google's 30w charger. Yes ik theres way faster out there and Google should continue to speed things up but its plenty fast if u plug it in for 20 minutes or so. Performance is still rock solid, no FP issues, cameras are still excellent, 0 issues with the 120hz. Its on sale on Google's website and Amazon at least once a month+ trade ins makes this phone an absolute steal. I recommend this over the 9 since the internals are extremely similar but the price of this phone is way cheaper & it'll be getting updates longer than most will keep the phone. I have no worries it'll hold up well in the future, its plenty powerful to keep up for years to come, my 4a 5G with a mid range processor ran like butter unitl i replaced it, i bet that phone would still hold up too.

I've heard the S23 (at least the FE) has terrible battery performance that starts shitting out around a month in. The other thing I found is that Samsung is only giving 3-4 years of updates, which means some apps will stop working (Chase Bank for me 6 years in to Galaxy S8+). That + the Gemini features is what convinced me to switch to pixel from being a dedicated Samsung Galaxy user since the S3, having S5 and S8+. I didn't even want to upgrade from S8 except for my broken screen, Google Maps messing up often on busy highways, selfie camera not working due to cracks, battery barely making it a day, and some longer load times that were frustrating. Phones have gotten so good that there isn't really a reason to upgrade unless you're a fanboy/enthusiast, or someone who wants to show off all the newest tech in an attempt to show 'high status' or wealth or whatever.

Maybe cause they have sun for 3 minutes a day, so it lasts at peak brightness for so long, but if you want somewhere where it's actually sunny a lot.... Boy oh boy I live in a hot climate, pixel 8 is very easy to overheat and throttle down everything. Modem is still shit and cell signal is weaker than iPhones and other androids. The tensor chip being a rebranded exynos chip makes ot still hard to recommend, on top of it being buggier than some 3rd party OEMs like Samsung is just outright unacceptable. And the long time commitment to software isn't as much of a selling point since most people wouldn't keep a phone for more than 4 or 5 years. If they equipped like 50 or 100% more RAM than needed, then maybe I could see the value in it. But since most people need 8+ now, for the software updates to make sense 7 or 8 year from now, you'd need at least 16/18gb RAM but closer to 24 is ideal. If Google went with something that was Mediatek or Qualcomm based in design, it'd be a perfect phone IMO. They should make some play edition phones again I miss the HTC m8

Sorry, but Pixel phones ain’t it. Samsung phones just work better as do iPhones. Pixels have too many issues and they’re far too expensive for what they actually offer. I’d never pay $500-$600 for a Pixel 8 when it can’t do everything that a Samsung or even a OnePlus can do much easier. Google should just admit failure with everything having to do with the Exynos version of Tensor and move on. The Pixel 10 series will the earliest that it may improve with TSMC taking over fabrication of the Tensor chip. I have hope the Pixel 9 series will be good but I still expect the same Exynos centered problems like bad battery life, overheating, and maybe slightly better connectivity. The Pixel 9 series is just a hold over till next year anyway so I’m not expecting very much.

Never had overheating or battery issues on my Pixel 8. My iPhone 13 was so bad that I had to make the switch

@@meroinheroin that’s interesting because I currently have an iPhone 13 and I’m considering jumping to an android phone. Is the Pixel 8 much better than the iPhone 13?

@@DWtechfan for me personally, absolutely. All my issues were fixed once I moved to Pixels.

I stopped buying google phones because they frequently and intentionally can't make an operating system for their own devices.

Pixels now are not as special as the nexus or pixel 1 of the past, the pixel 8 and the coming 9 will just be another android phone in the market. Stock android(nexus days) were praised for its great battery life, fast and fluidity, the go to for gaming (nexus days), greatest camera of its time (pixel 1),unlimited gphotos. Oneplus is sadly slowly going down that route too.

Nobody should buy Pixel until Pixel 10 and Pixel 11. Overated phones.

Now, i've played with Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL, with many other reviews, in September/October, i would say overpriced instead overated.

Why buy a pixel phone for? 😅 Useless trashy things from lovely Google. I can't believe people are wasting their money on trashy Google electronic devices. Funny. 😅
