Look at it this way: If you travel via subway. If you get attacked, no one will help you. There are no police around. You are not allowed to carry a short boomstick, or anything to defend your self. I strongly doubt that the suspect who shoved and murdered that straphanger onto the subway tracks paid $2.90 to get into the subway system where he most likely jumped the turnstile and as a matter of fact, one of his many prior arrests was for fare evasion. If you stop fare evasion, you mitigate crime in the subway. It's that simple! The fact that the MTA has not yet implemented a solution to the fare evasion problem across all stations is ridiculous.

There hasn't been a "Transit Police Dept" since the early 90s. Officers are assigned to either a regular precinct (PCT), a housing police service area (PSA), or a transit district (TD) when they graduate NYPD police academy. They don't just hire "transit cops."

Yesterday, March 27th, I got on the #1 local line and was confronted with bum sleeping on the seats eith his PANTS OFF COMPLETELY!!! The passengers just sat there. That bum then FARTED very loudly. Some of them started leaving at the next station. I went two train cars to the conductor and told him. At 125th street stop the police go on and took the raggedy man off pulling up his raggedy dirty pants. This happens EVERY DARN DAY and WORSE in all of the subway system.

I know I've been riding it since he got into the office.., and there weren't any police on the subway platforms from 12 Am to 5 in the morning.
