@@alexbarcovsky4319 I've actually seen a haphazard video of a one-armed muscle-up. It was sloppy as hell but still quite a feat. Never seen a one armed perfect handstand pushup either, but that's still not quite the same thing as you can do a very sloppy version of one move with a lot less effort than another with perfect form. Bottom line: Whatever feat it is there's most likely a KZbin video on it. At least some form of video; most likely not very pretty.

I love these kinds of analysis videos, and you addressed many important points. Some observations: * Added to the fact that you don't lift 100% of your weight, there is the bilateral deficit to consider, meaning that in theory it requires less than twice the strength of the two arm version. However the instability of balancing on one arm should counteracts this. But overall you've shown that since people could military press more than twice their weight, it may be possible to get the needed raw strength. * I love how you tried to get into the bottom one arm position, which I always imagined as a very tilted one arm elbow lever. It would be cool to see someone hold that position unassisted. * You did not discuss Matteo Spinazzola's video where he does a full range one arm wall rep. He has to "walk" a foot up because the friction of that surface is too high to slide back up. Maybe he'd be able to do it cleanly on a super smooth wall or by attaching small wheels to his feet to roll up (not roller skates, he said those would not work). * You did not discuss the strict one arm elbow lever to one arm handstand, where people like Cai Yong and Roilan Handbalancer can press from one arm elbow lever to one arm handstand flag and then go up into the handstand, with no momentum from the legs, only strength. The start is similar to the one arm planche pushup done quite well by Ziolus and Mateusz Nowicki and Pivet Madkilla (he did it more sideways), and less cleanly by Matteo Spinazzola and Andrea Larosa. * Regarding you not finding videos of someone close to it, similarly years ago I could not find videos of a no kip no armpit assistance one arm muscle up, but now there are people doing it with almost no kip and Andrey Aleksandrov is close to doing it perfectly. Similarly I think the one arm handstand pushup is possible, maybe some very short guy with small legs like Pivet Madkilla will do it one day.

I'd argue against the impossible statement, solely because I don't believe there are a lot of people actually actively and strategically training for it, simply because most would think it impossible thus not even putting in any serious thought or effort into it, you'd have to go through a really long, tedious and challenging work of working on handstand push ups regularly, as if you were doing normal push ups, which is demanding enough by itself, but then you also have the factor of the centre of mass balance, for which it makes it a whole different exercise from 2 hands push up, because now you're suddenly recruiting a lot of your core muscles, and putting much more strain on your wrist, waist etc to keep the balance which is a very active effort of coordination, so I just believe that almost nobody ever truly put in the thought, time or effort into making it a reality.

Hey! I'm the guy you shit on at 7:29 (just kidding 😉, great analysis all around here!) It is a fun skill to work on, for sure. For my training, I worked on a parallette at easier heights to make pressing from the ground easier. And yes, I absolutely jammed myself in the corner to give better balance and leverage. The skill comes down to what parameters you set (full range? just to floor? freestanding? against the wall?). It's like saying "handstand pushup" - does that mean chest to wall? back to wall? full range? supported or freestanding? There are a lot of different variations, with a huge range of difficulty. I'd still put them all under the umbrella of "handstand pushup". For a freestanding, full range, one arm handstand push-up - yep, I haven't seen it. I would say in the one arm elbow lever to one arm handstand, there ARE plenty of examples out there of people pressing up out of that position without a kick. That is impressive as hell and likely the closest thing to what you're looking for. Thanks for the video!

Matteo Spinazzola (the second video you showed) has said that even though it looks like he is climbing the wall with his feet and therefore making it easier. It really isn't. The wall had too much friction to slide the foot up but he can't really create any force with the foot to help him push himself up. So that's the best attempt of the ones you showed I think. He also has an even better attempt on his Instagram where he does the one arm handstand push-up on parallets with a crazy range of motion.

@@gustavwiden7039 This move is clearly possible and his explanations are false. Just find a way to get over balance issues without giving your weight to it, you're done. The guy you mentioned obviously is not climbing the wall with his foot. But if it makes the owner of this video happier, he can oil his foot and wall and restrict horizontal slide with some wood, so it slides vertically.

The best way to describe this movement is to do a standard shoulder press, but now, from the resting position with the bar on ur chest, remove one arm but do not change anything else, do the press. If you can do that, you can do one arm handstand pushup. :)
@stephenmckay67625 жыл бұрын
At the 1972 Olympics, the leading strict press was 112.5kg, for a bodyweight of 51.6kg (Zygmunt Smalcerz, height 1.53m) giving a ratio of 2.18. That makes the odds a *little* better -- assuming the form was good. It's clearly at the outer limits of what might be possible. An amputee might be capable of this. None of the current videos are convincing.
@ZamoraksApprentice5 жыл бұрын
What might be more possible, is a one arm handstand with added weight to the leg on the side of the arm you're pushing with. for example: this guy weighs 51.6kg and presses 112.5kg. that means he could theoritically stand in the one arm handstand push ups position, and add about 5.4 kg of weight to that leg, to keep the shoulder from being in a bad position.
