A sign of degradation is when you start having to bring down the frequency because your processor can't take it anymore, as it did before. That's exactly what I've been noticing with my i7-870 (1st gen). I used to be stable at turbo 4,3GHz, then 3,8GHz and now not even that. I'm stuck at default frequencies (3,5 turbo) if I want absolute stability. Nice video, it helped me understand this better.

@wuverul8 жыл бұрын
+Jacob Orlando Well, it makes sense as to why. They wait to see how many people want a piece of hardware, gather the funds from the users, contact the company and place an order, get the order in their warehouse, process all of the parts to ship them to different users (with the correct model of the product as some have multiple choices), THEN ship it to you. The question is if the savings, for the individual, are worth the added wait time.

Love my overclocking, been doing it since early pentium days! For anyone concerned about degradation, I still have my previous cpu, a q9550 from around 08-09 that I ran until I got my i7 and then a mate used for 18 months. 1.375vcore loaded(I think was 1.250vid stock) and 3600mghz still stable 8 years later, which is a good 3 years after I'd already upgraded! On actually breaking stuff. Never killed a cpu,ram or video card but I have killed a couple of motherboards! Back in the days pre onboard memory controllers I killed northbridge on an asus 680i , so buys evga 680i (was running 8800 sli) which had better nb cooler with fan and temp monitering. Was better and pulled higher fsb than asus board, but still ultimately failed! From memory I was running about 1.4v on nb.Gave up on sli then and got a p45 board that pulled much higher fsb and still runs fine to this day! Not that it's being used,think it will go in a mame cab one day! For anybody serious about getting into overclocking, good psu and motherboard are very important!

There's not much you can do with tech videos. And people are always asking about overclocking.
@perryt20398 жыл бұрын
that's not completely true. If you've looked at linus's channel, you'd see that they're making useless videos, because they've run out of ideas. Unfortunately, there aren't many new releases, and the gtx 1080 alone isn't enough to make consistently good content. It's better to look at something a little more basic and to go very deep into it to give people, especially beginners, an insight to what people are actually talk about.

did my monitor crash? no? i have used 81hz for tens of hours now, ( i turn it on when i game) and have not had any issues, logically speaking the only thing overclokcing your monitor will do is decrease its life span just as the same as overclocking anything, your monitor will let you know know how much it can be overclocked, since you have to test your overclock and your if your monitor goes black(resets 20 seconds since you have to confirm the setting) then the Hz you put is too high, so you just have to find the highest Hz that your monitor still works on, on mine i can do 81Hz no problems, 82Hz the screen is black and cant see anything, but as i said since you have to confirm the change after you change it black screen will just go back in 20 seconds since u cant see anything to confirm it.

For example the FX 8320 basically is a FX 8350 with lower clock speed. If you want the power of an FX 8350 you have to over clock your FX 8320 to 4.5-4.7 GHz 1.3-1.4 v. The most difference is the numbers. Instead of having 8300 benchmark points you got 8500. I tried to over clock and it didn't make much difference.
@Choom20777 жыл бұрын
For anyone who's never done it, it most certainly does not take 30 minutes to get a stable config. To get a stable set up, you have to spend hours, sometimes days and even weeks, testing out your voltage settings and overall temps. What may seem stable (benchmarking tools aren't 100% indicators of a perfectly stable set up), you may stumble upon a BSOD, just running a simple software, like a scanner bed program, whereas everything else seemed perfectly fine. You have to get a feel for the right voltages, not just for your CPU, but also your northbridge, southbridge and memory. Simply overclocking a CPU without taking care of the voltages around nb,sb, memory timings, etc, will have you running into problems constantly. There have been people, confused as to why their machines would restart, when their CPU temps were low. This is usually the result of over voltage on NB, causing it to over heat. You have to set all voltages manually to keep them consistent. Otherwise, you run into these risky areas.

So I have a system that has an i5 4690k and I managaed to overclock mine to 4.4Ghz and then after 8 months or so I decided that I wanted to prolong the lifespan of it because i wasn't planning on upgrading anytime soon so I reverted it. Before this I had two of my RAM sticks fail witihn two years of building my PC. Back in October I had to replace my i5 with another one from ebay because my system was just constantly freezing after booting up and then in November my R7 370 failed. So I had just lost two Ram sticks, a CPU and a graphics card within the space of 3 years. I am so unlucky :( :( :(

U could always over clock CPU from the 486ghz days, When they make these CPU's they have to factor in a tolerance range so there is a -20/+20 range meaning 3.6 is with in a -20/+20 range of the clock speed, so u can normally go 20% more on performance,

+RagnarockonPC If it makes you feel any better I have a 8800GTS 512 (must be 8-10 years old now?) that was overclocked beyond what you could do out of the box with hardware volt mods and custom firmware and it still works to this day :) Likewise I had a TI4400 in a similar state (gawd knows how old that was) that I threw away a couple of years ago because it wasn't worth having anymore... but it still worked. I also had a 7600GT, again volt modded, that spent a good part of its useful life under a peltier with ridiculous OCs that I recently put in my friends Moms computer because her (non-overclocked) GPU died. Modern GPUs especially are boring IMO without at least firmware mods because they limit all the tweakable stuff to well within safe parameters.
