Ian! I actually know for a fact that these skins were going to be in the shop! Because day 1 the shop was majorly bugged. After I purchased the cardboard mega bundle it disappeared from the shop and the Norse mega bundle took its place. I was able to purchase the Norse mythology mega bundle and when I purchased that the widow cas mega bundle showed up in the shop I didn't purchase it cause I dont play cass and widow but it was on my page. The very next day my shop was supper bugged the widow cass skins disappeared from my shop and every time I tried to scroll down it would force me to the bottom. And I know others had the same issue. Blizzard refused to talk about it and no content creator has talked about the shop bug. But I was there I saw it and I am using Loki Sombra as my forever skin right now.

Venture was supposed to get their legendary skin last season but it got pushed to this season. Probably wanted ATLA to come out after Rivals. Plus it coincided with 6v6 to pull in old players/people enjoying 6v6 in Rivals

I predict that in the future they will "bring back Archives" and start adding a new mission every season to "bring back PvE" because of the panic mode (and make them ALL FREE like Archives and permanently available to everyone). Missions ranging from true Archives (past of Overwatch era) to what would be considered as story missions (present "reassembled" Overwatch erra)

As nice as the OW2 skins are, ive never been interested in buying them, but im more inclined to think about buying a skin in Rivals, and i think i know the reason why… In Rivals, you can ACTUALLY see the skin itself since the game is played in a third person view.

There's nothing better than competition to make a company more consumer friendly. I wish we had more of that in today's gaming market. Also, the Kiriko bundle still costs as much as a legendary skin bundle. Make sure to buy the Kiriko skin seperately for 1000 coins, if you happen to want it instead of the expensive 2600 bundle.

If they listened to the community, Venture would have more than 2 skins; Ram would have more skins and a mythic; Kiriko and Mercy would have less skins; yada yada yada. The only real "complimentary" skins are Twitch skins. And not everyone watches Twitch. These are the first mass free skins in *an event* maybe ever in OW2's history. Even in the last Christmas event, without buying the event pass, you could only get 1 free skin. You're riding Blizzard too hard buddy. They aren’t in panic mode, but they do recognize competition is here and management is being forced to acknowledge it. One thing is Rivals did a lot of things players suggested, like the Loki decoys. They frankly made a better Widow, and kits have more breadth. OW needs to step up. However, no offense but people aren’t “jumping ship”, they are playing both. OW is still the better game. I’ll add, Marvel Rivals has one HUGE limitation, Marvel IP is not going to allow a lot of whimsical themes and tie-ins because it dilutes their IP. Because the game is new now people don’t see this yet. Rivals has meh emotes, sprays, highlight anims, and the voice acting and lines are far out B-grade at best.

I can say that so far, 6v6 has definitely been more fun than 5v5, straight up. My problem is I'm tired of waiting, it feels like everything with OW moves in slow motion, promises made seasons before they will be realized. 6v6 is being treated as an "experimental" LTM, which means it has an end date, then what? How long after the test run until we just get 6v6 back for good? I think Blizzard underestimated Rivals upon its launch, and only months before its release did they finally start budging on the 6v6 conundrum. Thing is Rivals is already here and it's kicking ass, quite frankly Blizzard need to drop 5v5 and commit to 6v6, the quicker the better. OW's identity crisis is at an all time high, is it a purely competitive game or casual, is it 5v5 or 6v6? For me I'm done settling for something I feel could and SHOULD be so much more fun, Marvel Rivals currently knows what kind of game it is and until OW figures out what it is, I just don't see much point in playing it anymore.

Improvements to OW make me happy, but I'm not suffering through 9 OW matches for 3 free skins for characters I don't play. I'm sticking to Rivals, where I'm actually having fun, for now. I've already spent more in Rivals than I ever have in OW2 because it was actually worth the price. I do hope OW becomes a good game again and I'll be happy to play again when it is. The Avatar collab stuff is really good tho. 10/10

This video made me realize that I had fallen out of love with overwatch. It really feels like a toxic relationship where im being treated terribly but stick around because of familiarity and the bare minimum amount of attention. Marvel rivals though is so different. It’s got familiar characters so it isn’t completely foreign to me, it’s got skins you can actually see that they know they’re fan base would love, it’s got easy to learn heroes with high skill ceilings so it’s fun to play at all skill levels, a battlepass system that allows you to come back and complete them even after a season ends, and they have amazing potential (one that I don’t see in overwatch anymore). I do hope this lights a fire under overwatch so they start actually listening to the community and GENUINELY improving the game, sticking to promises. But as of right now, I have been let down far too many times by overwatch since really the release of echo. That was almost five years ago, and still i waited for them to do better. But after content droughts, pre selling a PvE mode that never got released, releasing a watered down (one time only apparently) PvE event that was similar to other PvE events in the past yet charging for it, blizzard scandals, and frankly just being bored of the same thing over and over, I think it’s time for me to be done with overwatch. At least until they can find some way to make the game better, but I doubt it, ive gotten my hopes up too many time for that game

i was so excited for marvel rivals because im a marvel fan and a hero shooter fan. but because blizzard and specifically the big shots in charge of overwatch have gotten too comfortable screwing over their players and they need the competition to see that a clearly more consumer friendly model attracts more people. if your product is not worth it and someone puts out a better product dont be surprised when consumers leave your product. (also maybe players would be coming back if they stopped making kiriko skins for one goddamn second)

I personally don't think it's all in a "panic mode" sort of deal because these things are usually planned beforehand, atleast not a panic from Marvel Rivals hitting 20m. Could very well be as a response to just Marvel Rivals in general since it was definitely getting a lot of traction following its release, and I wouldn't doubt that, but I do not think it's about the 20m player achievment, it's just TOO recent, unless they SOMEHOW had planned to have all this stuff just in case Marvel Rivals DID blow up as it did.

Honestly I LOVED Overwatch since I first tried it on one of those random weekend free trials. Since they announced OW2 I kept fanboying about it to all my friends and how I was gonna main it, at first it was sooo fun for me, but with time, the cracks started showing (for me personally). The only thing that will make me come back is if they add 6v6 back, I'm tired of having a raid boss every game and whichever team kills the other team's raid boss first wins the fight.

There is a reason why unregulated monmopolies are not only bad, but also scorned by consumers. Granted, blizzard have not been overwhelmingly greedy, but they still had a borderline monopoly on the hero shooter genre. Marvel rivals, while not everyones new favourite game, will still make the hero shooter genre a healthier and friendlier place for consumers.

the initial comparison panic can make sense as long as it leads to a more concrete outcome later. I would start from the organizational point of view of the gallery which is terribly messy, like a room full of junk useful only for a too short period and then forgotten, cumbersome. and then obviously the lore: it is the best point in which it can be distinguished from marvel rivals, but it must start to be clear for those who arrive in the game, not for those who have followed it for years and already know what was there. we need to stop letting the wikia explain the lore (or the numbers of the abilities, frankly).

Competition is usually good but I will say that if Marvel Rivals stays massive, and does cause Overwatch to become less profitable / can't compete with Rivals, Blizzard will probably just end support for Overwatch and start making a new game instead of bothering to try and innovate their old game.

I guess free skins are cool for those of us who 1) can't afford them 2) aren't dumb enough to waste $20+ on a skin For a lot of us though, the game is stale & hero balance is not fun to play into. I used to play 4+ hours a day Anytime I'm tempted to buy a skin or bundle I just buy a new game instead & OW2 gets slightly more enjoyable since I can look forward to playing a new game after getting bored for an hour. No matter how many skins blizzard gives out for free I still wont be coming back to playing OW. The issue is not the skins. Its the gameplay loop. Its not the same as it was therefore ow doesn't feel the same as it was years ago

god I hope they keep doing free stuff like this, I don't mind spending on money on something I really want (see: Venture content) but this is a really nice way to just have some stuff that make the game feel more rewarding to play because let me tell ya the battlepass really isn't doing it for me and never has, the stuff in premium just doesn't make it worth the money for me so I just stick with the free one which gets me barely anything, which is usually fine, I play for the reward of having fun but that can really drag during particularly bad seasons and metas that directly counter how I like to play the game

Ive been disillusioned with overwatch since the horrible launch of the second game. Some free skins that are TOTALLY from blizzards kindness and NOT an attempt to bribe players into coming back or staying, wont convince me.

I don't like trashing on Blizzard as well but if Rivals is what Overwatch needs to show the developers to give us as players more free content without having to spend money, all for it. More new player friendly for those wanting to play Overwatch but not wanting to spend money.

I tried to play a couple rounds of ow2 after being balls deep into rivals and it's astounding how bad the gameplay loop has been. Tanks are unkillable unstoppable forces healers have too much healing damage and crowd control. The damage drop off for aiming characters forces you into melee range to characters that don't aim at all. I'm so happy to be rid of it.

Marvel Rivals is definitely a competitor to OW, but you’re right it isn’t an OW killer. My money is on Blizzard being the OW killer.

The very reason why I didn't buy the hashimoto kiriko skin cause it was a fake legendary. I'm very suprised that they made the suki skin the appropiate rarity, maybe they're starting to follow their own skin rarity system again but they still made the suki bundle as expensive as the legendary ones...

They are doing what any other game does during this time of the year by giving out stuff for free to make people happy. Rivals is out yes but the likely hood that the skins weren't going to be for free is super unlikely
