Don’t listen to people who tell you that speeding up the game is cheating. There’s absolutely no advantage that you gain over NPCs or other players by speeding up the pace. Don’t let legalists bully you into wasting your own time. Keep up the hard work, jrose. I’m loving these videos.

hwoarangthedoorbell Idk, is argue that the game is balanced around the fact that you wouldn’t spend an hour leveling up. Say in a normal area leveling you’d spend 20 mins. With triple the battle speed, you’d probably still spend the 20 mins, but now you’re way higher level. I’m not calling it cheating, just saying it does make the game easier if you abuse it

@@justinnesbit3948 I cant speak for speedruns. But I have seen some people literally leveling up a magicarp for half a day in the normal gamespeed. They beat the game with the sole magicarp. So speeding up the game cant have much of an advantage rather than saving up this guy's time. I am for speeding up the game because in this particular series he will save a massive amount of time trying out different pokemons as starters.

@YamiJustin don’t forget that’s he’s trying to stay at as low a level as possible. So he won’t be spending the same amount of time leveling faster, he’s be spending less time getting to the level he would have gotten to anyways at normal speed.

@boom Here's the thing my guy; I own all the games I play on emulator. I've played those cartridges hundreds of times. So why do I still use emulators? Randomizers; the games don't have enough replayability as-is because I'm always stuck with the same Pokemon. So I use emulators to make the game more fun for me, but I legitimately own the game, so I'm not robbing Game Freak of any money- they already got my money years ago for the exact same games. Forcing people to only ever use the actual cartridge, even if they own the games they're using ROMS for, is ridiculous. I'm trying to experience the game in new and fun ways that aren't possible on an actual cartridge. If you and your elitist standards want to complain about how horrible of a person I am, cool cool, but I see no issue with it and you picking fights with everyone in the comments is extremely annoying.

@@yawninglion1677 I don't mind that people use emulators, but IF you want to play on genuine (ish) hardware with randomizer, you could get a flash cart and put those randomized roms on there. I've done it quite a bit for solo runs to get the right starter, playing on an actual Gameboy Advance SP, and I have to say it's alot of fun. Again, nothing wrong with emulators, just a tip in case you didn't know.

@boom Investing time to raise your Pokémon is not challenge. If difficulty was ever a concern in these games, the developers should have focused on better AI and more fleshed out movesets for later game trainers. A level 100 Pokémon is a level 100 Pokémon no matter how you get there, and if you need a higher level to be able to win, the bottom line is just that. Finding the level you need to be at to be able to win. Why not complain about something that actually does ruin difficulty like using in battle items or evasion like Double Team? The idea of denying being hit by your opponent is much more grimy than denying tedium of gaining experience unless it's a speedrun.
@SilastheMatchmaker
@SilastheMatchmaker 4 жыл бұрын
@boom I mean, did you watch the video though? He didn't level to 100. Besides, the entite point of these 'Challenge Runs' isn't to toil away half your life grinding a Pokémon game. It's to just see if it's possible to beat the given game with only one Pokémon and some other rules. I don't think it's fair to ask a content creator like this to do the game without speedups, when it makes absolutely no difference besided the amount of time he spent grinding, which is already the most braindead part of the game.
@Campaign2024

@hamiltoncarvalhoii9403
@hamiltoncarvalhoii9403 4 жыл бұрын
@boom Nah I disagree about that level 100 thing. Sure he could level all his pokemon to 100 but more than "a challenge" he's also trying to find out what's absolutely necessary to beat the game. That's a key part of these challenge runs that he mentions in his videos. Almost ANY pokemon can beat the game at level 100, he knows this, but these runs aren't a matter of "if" he cant beat the game with said pokemon, but who is it easiest with. If you watch his last video he does exactly this by comparing the levels of each starter in their respective runs. He says bulbasaur is the easiest because it was only level 69 when he beat Blue, while the other two starters needed 70+. Your argument isn't relevant here, in this context, speeding up the game is totally in the cards. This is more of a data collecting thing than a "challenge" anyway.

I don't know if the format will work beyond Gen 1. Several things about this Gen specifically make these challenges far more possible and interesting. Stuff like fighting gym leaders wildly out of order, the awful enemy movesets, the abundance of strong TMs early on, the terrible AI, and the badge boost glitch all contribute to making these runs reasonably possible before level 100.

I'm absolutely hooked on this series. I think the tier list could use a "consistency" column. Not necessarily a statistic, but just a way to fill in the gap left by what's there alone. Speed is super important in Gen 1, and that seems to be the main takeaway here. Movepool also helped, Seismic Toss is an option the other electrics will loathe not having, but it was huge that you could just attack before being attacked against most foes. I wanna see how tough it is for Paras.

Wombat not sure about IV’s but it gets Slam instead of Swift (I prefer slam because more damage) and Double Team which is a very broken movie if you can set up with it, basically you can spam double team so you just won’t get hit at all. Also the fights against Brock and Erika are easier.
@wombat4191
@wombat4191 4 жыл бұрын
@@CharlieZColt Oh yeah so you only referred to the movepool. Slam is honestly trash since you get Mega Punch in Mt Moon (and more of them in Celadon store), which has the same power and is more accurate, and later Body Slam, which is better than both of those in every way. And if you calculate average power (power*accuracy), Swift has the exact same as Slam. Double Team is also a TM that you can get from Celadon store, though in Yellow Pikachu learns it way before you get there, so that could be counted as an advantage. It also learns Quick attack at 11 instead of 16, which actually could be beneficial for this run. Some fights indeed are easier and there are fewer rocket fights, that is the main reason why running in Yellow would be unfair.

Tentacool is gonna have a problem with Kadabra/Alakazam, and its physical movepool outside of Wrap is ass (no Body Slam and best physical move it gets is Double Edge). @@androsp9105 Without Barrier though the PIdgeot would do serious damage to it with Sky Attack when Tentacool has very low HP and Defense, and having both Barrier + Swords Dance would mean giving up one of Surf, Ice Beam/Blizzard, and Wrap, all really helpful moves, while Barrier being a level up move means it can't be saved until the Champion battle. Then if it uses Mirror Move on the Swords Dance that could be a run ender if that wasn't your last boost. Funny story, back when our channel was looking at ideas for speedrun races one of the first ideas we had was catching a Pikachu in Viridian Forest in R/B, then beating Brock with only that Pikachu to finish the challenge, even had overlays and special rule boxes done already. Even just in finding a Pikachu we were in way over our heads, and then when we realized we were about to spend hours upon hours getting rocked by Brock it had to be scrapped. Its super impressive to see someone take these sorts of runs on, especially with the speed at which you're knocking these out, and is really cool to see how you have to change plans around your limitations.
