Yeah, Poland IS safe. That's not marketing or an exaggeration; it's actually true. Of course, things can always happen, and you can't lose common sense, but in many aspects, Poland is doing much better in terms of safety than many other countries. I am a woman, and walking safely at night is totally true. I live in a big city, and in the past, I used to work in a restaurant that was on the other side of that city. Sometimes I would finish my shift at midnight or even 2 AM. At that time, the buses are pretty rare, so I often preffered to walk a large part of the city on foot to catch another bus from another stop. Nothing bad ever happened. I actually had an experience meeting a slightly drunk guy who came out of some bar and struck up a conversation with me on the way. Of course, I was wary-you know, a girl alone in the middle of the night with no one around-but the guy turned out to actually walk with me for a bit. We ended up talking about philosophy, and he made sure I got on the bus safely. That's an anecdote, and I don't recommend assuming that every drunk guy you meet at night in the city would be a kind-hearted philosopher, but yeah, it's my only interesting experience of walking alone at night. But people need to stop crossing the street without looking; it's a plague, and people definitely have too much of an excessive sense of safety. Here, pedestrians have the right of way, and cars have to stop before you even step onto the street. But you know, laws are laws, and accidents happen.
