@KillahMate5 ай бұрын
That's a kneejerk reaction sure, but it's also accurate. Sony never adds any video feature to Playstation that they don't support on their own displays - they added 1440p because they had their first range of 1440p gaming monitors being released at the time. They waited _over a year_ to add VRR to PS5 because they had trouble patching VRR into their TV firmware, and they refused to have PS5 provide a feature that competing TVs had but Sony TVs didn't. Microsoft doesn't care because they don't sell TVs or sound bars or amps, so the Xbox just supports everything. (This is not particularly a compliment to Microsoft, if they _did_ sell TVs they would be doing the same thing as Sony.)

PS5 only supports HDMI Forum VRR which works by embedding the clock data in the FRL (fixed rate link) pipe. This technique only came about when the HDMI 2.1 specification was being established but it actually isn't exclusive to 2.1, some HDMI 2.0 devices with 18Gbps bandwidth actually got FRL and could use HDMI Forum VRR. This is a very small number of devices and not at all a common occurrence, so that's why there's a small few 2.0 displays that support VRR on PS5, the vast majority do not.

One thing I will say about the PS3 compared to the 360 my brother had, I could get analogue audio out at the same time as HDMI video and use an HDMI to DVI-D cable, so I could use my 1080p DVI monitor and my Creative PC speaker set-up which only had analogue input. Didn't buy an HDTV until 2014 because of that. I seem to recall the analogue out cable thing for his model of 360 blocked the HDMI port. I ended up getting him a VGA + stereo phono cable as a present. PS3 over RGB SCART is still my favourite digital media player for my 15KHz widescreen CRT, sending digital audio to my (non-Creative) speakers.

Initially, I thought the same. It must be HDMI 2.1 if you want to use the VRR for PS5. However, there is a monitor from Dell (model G2724D) where it can support VRR even it is HDMI 2.0! Turns out it seems as long as the monitor supports HDMI Forum VRR then the VRR works for PS5.

That‘s why I use my Playstations on a TV, and my PC on a monitor, and not the other way round.

This is the exact same situation for me, got a series s that supports my monitor's vrr but not my ps5 (asus VG2491R) very annoying

Im using my ps5 via a ROG XG32AQ monitor, which is HDMI 2.0. It does support VRR in ps5's system, and it works fine with those games running within the VRR range, such as Immortals of aveum with FG and WZ2.0, but when i play those games often run below VRR range, such as Dragon's dogma 2. My screen just starts to flash, I can only fix that by turning VRR off

Watching too many of these DF clips will make people stop becoming immersed in their games and only notice frames per second. This is not a pro-gaming channel. This is a nitpicking circle-jerk.
@noodles93455 ай бұрын
Damn, brutal lol. I don't see it as a big deal but some people do use the information just to cause drama. But that's on the people being weird. The game is what it is regardless of what DF has to say about it. Making a video talking about technical issues doesn't magically manifest them. The problems obviously already existed.
@femto84025 ай бұрын
Why are you upset? DF is all about technical aspects of video games, and a lot of people care about that. Bad framerate totally fuck my immersion in a game personally, it's great to be easily informed.
@crday30905 ай бұрын

You can see it from another view point, people play a game and wonder why it somehow doesn't work or dropping frames/graphics, they look on YT and see a DF video that tells them why, can't get mad at DF for letting people know if a game plays well or not, it's useful info,, it shouldn't be used for console wars tho.
@noodles93455 ай бұрын
@crday3090 A difference of opinion I suppose but I would say pointing out the issues is pro gaming. Especially in the PC space. We spend all this money on components because we care about the experiences we are having. We want to buy and play these games but at times the performance detracts from the experience. The issues become magnified when you play game ABC that runs just fine. Then you play XYZ the next day and it's stuttering, crashing, or whatever. Makes it feel even worse. So DF and others point these issues out to bring awareness of what you are spending your money on. Also to hopefully get developers to not make the same mistakes others have made.
