Ultra secret rooms actually have a methodology to finding them, the room connecting to it will always be attatched to a special room, assuming the floor has one of course (curse room, treasure room, challenge room, sacrifice room, etc.). I consistently found the ultra secret room on every floor in a red key run just by checking using this logic.

It actually goes further with the rules. They always spawn one Red Room away from the actual floor rooms and have 2 (preferrably) or 1 Red Room connecting to it which are adjacent to the actual floor rooms. I used these rules in the run I got Red Key early and I left the game with so many Angel Items from both the Ultra Secret Room and many Self Sacrifice Rooms with the one trinket that makes Angels drop regular items.

The gaps that appear on the map are because there is an obstacle on one of the adjacent rooms to where you want to Red Key. Like Secret Rooms, you can't generate a Red Key room if a room around it has an obstacle on one of the walls that would otherwise block the door. If you just look at it, every single Red Key room has 4 exits, and that is a requirement.

Fun fact, thats not always case entirely. I don't know if this can happen in a normal game, but the challenge 44 "Red Redemption", i had it happen that i could generate a red room next to a "closet" room, but whenever i tried to enter, it would instead place me on the normal entrance pf the room, and there would be no door leading back to the red room that i came from. It also happened whenever i tried to enter a room from a blocked side using the red key, it would instead place me on another entrance. But seems like this is exclusive to that challenge tho.

fun fact! this is ENTIRELY possible without the console, thanks to 4.5 volt and the doorstop trinket. step 1. enter a room, kill every enemy except for one step 2 : exit the room, the enemies will all respawn, however, you will not lose any battery charge from 4.5 volt. step 3 : find a red key hole, use red key step 4 : repeat step 1 until you've cleared out the entire floor of red rooms

Ultra secret room is easier to find later in the game. It doesn’t just generate one layer off of the map, it has a set of rules for generation, like normal and super secret rooms. If possible, it will always be connected to at least 2 red rooms that aren’t connected to the same normal room.

reson for the gap is because there is room for the other secret room you get from a trinket even if you dont own it. Its to avoid bugs so they leave always one free spot. If you took the trinked and reloaded the floor at this exact spot you would have a secret room. Thiis is also why there is always actually 2 spots where a secret room can generate. You never were wrong if you seen a perfect spot for a secret room and it did not open. You just found the spot where one with the trinket would generate.

4.5volt + doorstop/Mercurius, is how you do this legit. But even without that, you can probably still get like 3-4 Red Rooms (since the chances of the red room being a fight is pretty high), and since Ultra Secret Room DOES have a spawn rule to it, you may be able to find it every other floor, which is very valuable. This item is definitely one of those that can break the game in moments if it feels like it. But it may not save a run unless the stars align. Also with the amount of resources it generates you can visit I AM ERROR rooms and tp out too.

I'm almost sure that the 2 non boss room adjacent rooms you couldn't open were rooms that had something blocking the door spawn, like roocks or pots, I think red key follows the same rules for secret room spawns when making a new room, you have to be able to acess it from all sides

I actually broke the game earlier today with a like 2-hour run with Red Key. I got it on the very first floor and used the Ultra Secret Room spawning rules to find the rooms on my way down. By Catacombs 2 I had some nice synergies for generating hearts (especially Spirit Hearts) and I had the Filigree Feather trinket. I found so many Sacrifice Rooms that I left the Mausoleum on my way to Home with like, 10+ Angel Items from the many Angel Battles in those Sacrifice Rooms. When one of those items turned out to be The Stairway, that basically meant I could fight Angels on every floor from Depths 2 and up for even more Angel Items. It was kind of insane and I was living for it, lol.

Soul of cain and clear rune is probably easier to 'red key' break the whole floor since its 6 charges for all 3 adjacent rooms. Something like sharp plug and health regeneration via stuff like lil chad, gimpy (very strong with sharp plug), old bandage, the like, and you can easily 13x13 the whole floor.

It's funny I did this to beat the red redemption challenge on my first try, not getting hit is relatively easy on floor 1 so just killing off Spooky Ghost Brother and literally full clearing can get you a lot of power. In terms of practical red key use once you learn how ultra secret rooms spawn you can almost always find them for a free angel item.

I'm guess that the reason those 5 rooms were unable to be opened was because the special rooms ( shop treasure room ) can only have 3 exits at max (entrance,secret,super secret) and then there's the boss room which can only spawn specific rooms + exit/entrance those being the special door to the alt floor and the angel and devil rooms (both at once with duality )

I believe the way you judge how far out you can go before reaching the I Am Error room is based on Spawn. Spawn is the center of the grid in normal mode, if I remember correctly. Don't know about Red Redemption challenge, since that one's weird.

When using Red Key, you can navigate to the sides of special rooms if possible, then get into them without having to use resources So it also saves you bombs and keys since you can get into item rooms, shops, bedrooms, and dice rooms for free

I did red redemption in about 10 tries. The two times i got the closest to winning (including the one time i won) is because i got a random planetarium as a red room. The red key is so cool IMO, but it's not powerful enough to warrant a 4 room charge. 2 room charge would make it cool to use in normal runs

I've not found one since unlocking it but I imagine I'd use it to get an "I am error" room after every floor where I get enough charge. Plus, you can use it to find secret rooms since the doorway outline won't show if there is a room behind the wall

To give an idea of how likely any particular red key use is to be good: 15.76% Item chance (including gold chest items)=26/165 8.48% Special rooms=14/165 12.7% Key Chance 25.7% bomb chance 8.5% card chance 4.2% spirit heart chance So, to add these up (and remember, we can't count special rooms and items twice because the special rooms give items) 15.8+12.7+25.7+8.5+4.2=67% chance using the key will get you at least a bomb Although this has to be mitigated by the fact that a lot of these items were blocked off by rocks or hazards, so unless you have flight this chance drops dramatically. Now I didn't go back and count the number of items that weren't accessible without bombs/flight but I'd say the chance probably drops to about 40% that the room will give anything more than a coin. So in other words, using this paper napkin math that I haven't fact checked at all, in a normal run red key will at worst give you a bomb every eight rooms, and at best give you an angel item and the bookworm transformation

A good way to get easy Infinite battery charges for a red key break, would be using Tainted Maggy + Mitre, it really is that simple.

I started an Eden run where I got it as my starting item, then got sharp plug later on. The wafer was my first item room item. I got lucky with the health drops and later on in the womb I was actually able to unlock all of the because of how much health I had. Plus I ended up with eleven luck and gimpy, with a red heart super secret room. I had guppy's head and the school bag and just spent three minutes generating flies, because I couldn't take out more than three hearts without dropping one, so I could just do in infinitely. The boss died very quickly and I didn't even bother continuing past Isaac. But that's also because I accidentally entered the I am error room on depths II before I could fight mom, so I didn't have the poloroid or the negative.

just got red key for the first time after unlocking it, and i found it in the void too lol, i was conveniently Bethany with max soul hearts so i had a ton of charges and the second red room i ever went into was the ultra secret room, didn't know what it was at the time and it happened completely randomly, had no idea it's rarity or anything, so I was just like "ohh red key gives you home rooms with angel items, neat" lol, it gave me holy water. Because of this, i thought red key was a lot better than it was because i thought you'd always get that room, and then i watched this and am just disappointed now lol.

Not sure if you tested this in the void, but I got it during a casual run and you can make red key doors in the Delerium boss room. Not sure if this is because of how it shows as a standard room on the map and the actual room is giant, but just wanted to let you know that at least one boss room can have a red key on it Edit: I checked wiki and it confirmed what I said, but it was wrong cuz it said you can’t make it inside the boss room. During the Delerium fight, I made the doors as I was fighting him in an attempt to escape, but they were locked. After I beat him I was able to enter, but a massive gap was between the red key room and Delerium’s room
