BeatEmUps honestly I grew up mostly in the 90s started with the Classic Sonic games (which I loved to death) but when Sonic Adventure came out I was blown away. The power metal/jazz/funk soundtrack the levels all the characters I even loved the hubs haha. I really enjoyed Sonic Unleashed Sonic Lost World honestly they may not be amazing but they are generally a fun time. That being said I am loving Sonic Mania on the switch!! Also I love your videos ^_^;

@BeatEmUps, I think SEGA should put Christian Whitehead (Creative lead on Mania) in Charge of the 3d sonic titles, with "sonic team" backing him up on the technical aspects...but leaving Whitehead+his team in CREATIVE CONTROL. Mania is amazing and really fun to play and I think the "Mania Team" is talented enough to bring this same level of quality+creativity to the "3d" series and make a "3D" sonic that would blow our minds and give gamers a truly memorable time. That's just my 2 cents though lol.

Were you alive when the original 3 sonic games were being released? You've got to realize that Sonic was one of the biggest deals going in the early 90's for kids. Between Mario, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Air Jordans, Starter Jackets and Sonic, you had a HUGE amount of the kids in the country totally hooked on kid based media and sports merchandise. When all those kids watched Sonic's transition to 3D go so poorly, it turned a large segment of the fans that SEGA would depend on for future software sales away... That's the main reason why SEGA stopped building consoles. Without Sonic as their big money maker (on par with Mario for Nintendo) they had nothing. Not to say SEGA didn't do awesome stuff, the Dreamcast is still one of my favorite consoles, but come on. 3D sonic has NEVER not once put out a game so universally enjoyed by fans that they literally say "Sonic is back!" Personally, I think if SEGA wants to truly refresh Sonic and appeal to EVERYONE with a 3D title, take those Sonic Mania Adventure cartoons Tyson Hesse made for the Mania Plus release, and turn that art style into the Sonic 3D game and let us run through the Sonic cartoon world. Not some semi-realistic BS with dialogue drama from a 2 bit soap opera and crap the Sonic universe NEVER needed...

Idk. Sonic Adventure 2 on the GameCube was a religious past time for me. I played City Escape so many times despite owning SSX Tricky. Not to mention the Chao. I would throw the eggs like a mad man in hopes of creating a cranky one. And it was the first and only Sonic game that I got to play with a friend side by side via co-op. That blew my mind as a kid lol.

Great 3D Sonic games imo: Sonic Adventure 1&2 (even though the first hasn't age that well), Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations. Other great/good Sonic games: Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic Advance 1,2&3 and Sonic and the dark Brotherhood (i know a lot of ppl despise this game, but i don't know, i actually liked it). Decent Sonic games imo: Sonic and the Black Knight (though a lot of people dodn't like this one), Sonic Unleashed (didn't think it was a bad game, just a mediocre one), Sonic rivals (meh, it was okay), Sonic Heroes (the first level was great, the others not so much) and Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice (this one surprised me considering how awful Sonic Boom: Rise of the lyrics was). "I wanna kill the developers" Sonic games imo: Sonic 06 (obviously), Sonic 4 ep 1&2 (horrible, never thought that a 2D Sonic game could be so fucking awful), Shadow The Hedgehog (kill me pls), Sonic and the secret rings (nope) and Sonic Boom: Rise of the lyrics (you saw this one coming). I've made this list only of Sonic games that came from the 2000s onward, only with the Sonic games that I've played (that's why some titles like the mario & sonic olympic games or Lost World), and of course, this is only my opinion.

Growing up, my cousins (who lived close by) had a sega genesis. We had Nintendo... I think our parents did this on purpose so we couldn't steal each other's games. I always loved the Sonic games, but never had my own. Now I do. Super impressed with Sonic Mania. It's pretty challenging!

The only reason I'd prefer digital is because I don't have to put in my game, play it, exit it, take the game out, pop in a new one, etc. Physical is great but more of a hassle to keep organized, safe, and it costs more. Digital games on the Switch have no tax, which is a huge bonus.

I am 43 since June of this year. We bought the Nintendo Switch for our son last Christmas and Sonic Mania and New Super Mario Bros Deluxe were the first 2 cartridges we bought for him. We beat them together. My son doesn't like the Open World Sonic game that came out last year, Sonic Frontiers but we are excited for the upcoming Sonic Superstars on the Switch. I think the biggest problem is that there just isn't a level of care with these games. The first 3d games with shadow etc were great, the ones with the Chao etc. The levels were still on rails but they still felt fast. They just need to combine a studio that does racing games with level based adventures and we will be cherry!!

Just so everyone knows, the PS4 Pro version does a native 4k resolution at 60fps. Seeing this game at a crisp native 4k resolution on a nice OLED TV is quite nice. I made the decision to buy the PS4 version because of this. Other than that, the Switch version is perfect for on the go blast processing.

my favorite sonic games were probably colours, generations, racing transformed, (black knight, unleashed and shadow the hedgehog wasn't bad as a kid) and the most memorable of all for me was sonic heroes. sonic heroes was my very first video game and i respect sonic because of it. im 16 now and i dont care what everyone else thinks and i emulated heroes. i got generations and racing transformed on steam. I REEEEEAAAAAALY want a sonic heroes remaster tho. plz sega :( EDIT: the adventure game were a bit before my time and i played them when i was like 13. they were good fun but didnt have any sentimental value like heroes did.

That's a lie. We've had great Sonic games. Let's go over them: Sonic Adventure Sonic Adventure 2 Sonic Heroes Sonic Advance (1,2,3) Sonic Rush Sonic Rush Adventure 3DS versions of Sonic Boom (apparently) Sonic Generations (including 3DS, which I prefer the 3DS more) Sonic Colors Sonic Unleashed (Day time levels, mostly) So, yeah. These are the best Sonic games after the trilogy and Knuckles.

Personally Colours was really great for me, it's actually one of my favorite Modern sonic games! I don't think you've mentioned these but have you play the Sonic Rush series? I haven't played the first one but I heard it was pretty good and I loved Rush Adventure even though some fans didn't like that whole ocean traveling thing they did but I think it was nice bonus mini game between the levels.

Playing Sonic Mania on the XBOX ONE/PS4 and Steam on a 1080p screen is all but nice but the CRT Sharp or CRT Soft visual filters just doesn't look right to me. However after buying the Nintendo Switch version those CRT visual filters works really well in Handheld mode. Small screens works so well for me and it brings me back to playing the Original Sonic Trilogy on a 14 Inch CRT TV. So the Nintendo Switch in Handheld can deliver that effect better than a larger panel can. Regardless I now own all of the Sonic Mania ports and I am happy enough to have supported Christian Whitehead and his wonderful team.

The steam version is good too, you can take it on the go, and plug in into your tv

I think honestly if we took the Sonic Adventure Sonic gameplay, fixed it's quirks like the camera issues and maybe added some other elements to it (elemental shields?) it would feel great. They were on the right track, I still think the adventure titles were great. However if Sonic's future was strictly 2D I don't think I'd be sad either.

There are tons of great Sonic games. Just because we had like 4 bad games, doesn't mean the whole franchise sucks.

I think the problem with the 3D Sonic games was that everything was too linear. On rail gameplay never really fit what the 2D Sonic did for level design. Also if I can't play with Knuckles or Tails then we have a problem. What they did to them in Adventure was always a let down to me.
