Fun fact, it's very possible that the Swedish Chef is based on author Steven Erikson's father. He spoke about it on an episode of Ten Very Big Books. His father was a very Swedish man with a thick accent, thicker mustache, and ran a cooking show in the same lot Jim Henson and co were developing their studio.

Swedish and Norwegian have a language melodies which are quite distinct. And if you speak english with that melody, it is an immediately identifiable dialect. There is a joke that goes: "How did you come to know I'm Norwegian then?" (Said with Norwegian language melody) The Swedish chef isn't Racist to Swedes, he sounds like a (humerous impression of a) Swede who is not as proficient in English as he thinks he is.

I freaking ADORED Sesame Street and the Muppet Show when I was little in the 80's. I got to meet Big Bird once at a PBS event in my hometown (Seattle, WA). It's one of my earliest memories. At some point they made Snuffy visible to everyone, I don't know when it happened, but I was watching Sesame Street with my kids and Snuffy showed up and everyone was talking to him and I was like, wait, what??

Because we have considered the Sweedish to be "real people" for a much longer time than the Chinese. The Sweeds have been considered people by Britain and America longer than the Polish and Irish have. Because of this, it feels more like playful than if it was the Chinese.

We have a neighbor who is similar to Early. He grew up in my father's generation and was referred to as a "neighborhood kid".
