For anyone unaware, the tigers from this park have been forcibly removed and placed into reputable sanctuaries. I have had the pleasure of caring for 4 of them for the past year while volunteering at a nearby wild cat sanctuary. Their days are now filled with lounging in the sun, playing with daily enrichment crafted by the volunteers and keepers, and receiving a fresh, nutritionally-balanced diet. 👍
@rosenyne2 жыл бұрын
You're talking about Joe Exotic's park, right? Because Big Cat Rescue (the park Carole Baskin runs) is also a very reputable sanctuary. That's one thing that the documentary did a total disservice. They tried to paint it as equivalent to what Joe Exotic was doing and it's NOT the same whatsoever. I grew up in Tampa and for a while even lived down the street from BCR, became an educator and organized field trips to the sanctuary before the pandemic. BCR is a nonprofit and everything they make off the cats goes back into the sanctuary and trying to change legislation. The sanctuary is also very spacious and the cats are given exceptional care. No one, not even the handlers, are allowed contact with the animals- it is a hands off facility and they do not exploit the animals whatsoever. Whatever people think of Carol Baskin the person, she actually runs a decent place with dedication to their mission to stop the cycle of big cat trafficking and abuse. It just makes me mad that Tiger King portrayed that aspect so dishonestly just to ramp up the drama.
@pepsiboorowe2 жыл бұрын
@@rosenyne Yes, I was referring to the Tiger King Park, not Big Cat.
@customerguy85812 жыл бұрын
@@rosenyne I agree, it's nice to see someone else call this out. The documentary film-makers were so interested in creating this morally gray antagonists situations that they really screwed over Carole who does NOT breed cats, which is the really messed up thing that the other parks were doing (among other stuff of course, but the breeding is what perpetuates the vicious cycle). It is such a shame because IMO it still could've been a great documentary without them doing her dirty.

@@JackErica19 In defence of Netflix: They don't make money with endlessly continuing successful shows. Around season four the costs start to rise and most people who want to watch the show are already subscribers. Thanks Ryan, I quoted this video twice to underline points in a Law & Literature essay for one of the final subjects of my law degree "Tiger King: exploring the space between perceptions of the Law/Legal system as one-size-fits all justice for the majority and Justice for marginalized minorities and outsiders". Your snappy summing up of the absurdities of Tiger King helped illustrate a couple of my Key points, so thanks, I'm a big fan of all of your comedic work.

@joostdriesens39844 жыл бұрын
@@nonyab5640 I would say there is no shocking abuse to be seen. The abuse is implicit in keeping tigers in cages, moving tiger cubs around the country in small containers for the entertainment of people in hotels and selling tigers. It is mentioned that he shot and killed tigers that were sick (instead of a veterarian euthanizing them) but this is not shown. It is clear that he does not really care for the tigers, they are a tool for glamorizing his persona. Since he has a 'zoo' and he sells the tigers they have to look presentable. To me all the tigers looked healthy.
